The king of the pundits, Mark Halperin, drops a tantalizing hint about General Wes Clark, a strong Clinton supporter and fellow Arkansan:

"The biggest question: Will any of her supporters (including Wes Clark) say publicly or privately she should quit?"

We like General Clark here at AMERICAblog, and have a bit of a history with him. In fact, we've heard that Clark did call Hillary tonight, telling her it's time to quit. Perhaps the general's most dangerous mission to date.

oh people, Mark Halperin doesn't say these things lightly. there is no way he would go on record with this without evidence. and as the 4th most significant AK politician (behind the Clintons and Mike Huchabee - who has been more kind to Obama than the Clintons in the meantime) this is significant. Clark is her main heavyweight on foreign policy! if he's out, her ship has no ammo. none.

This seems like a non-story. A third hand "We've heard..." isn't a story. I'd like Obama to win, but this is pitiful.

What is that line from somebody's C&W song, "You've gotta know when to hold and when to fold."

I'd like to personally apologize to Lawrence O'Donnel and Wesley Clark.

I never thought Clark would have this much sense, let alone class.

Given that Obama is going to be the nominee, and I am now convinced that it is not only necessary to put a white man with military experience and a pro-gun background (Jim Webb) but also a prominent Hillary supporter on the V.P. list, (Clark, Rendell, Bayh, Strickland) Wes Clark has now moved to the top of that list for me.

You were right Lawrence. Thank you General Clark.

Wes Clark for V.P. I'm ready to at least give it a chance and put him near the top of the list.

Oh man.

Everybody on your list is from the DLC wing of the party.

We deserve a more progressive replacement should the worst happen.

She needs to bow out. She has no hope and will only prolong the inevitable. PA was not won by double digits, it was 9.2%. NC was lost by a large margin and she won IN by a very small percentage, where she was favored. We don't need another month of this, she can't catch up. Obama has to focus on the GE, not a lost cause.

Sorry but this was over when she lost Texas.

And likely even earlier, after the 11 consecutive victories in February and the final pledged delegate lead became inevitable.

I think Hillary needs to come to the realizaton that this is really her only option available.

Yes, I am aware that she can continue to campaign. But if your were to draw a line down the center of a sheet of paper and on the left side list all the reasons to remain in the running and on the right side list all the reasons to bow out, if you were to be honest in your assessments, you would see that the reasons to bow out far out number the reasons to stay in.

A very interesting article. I've long thought that for a vice president Obama needs either a military
person, or someone with impeccable economic credentials, Hillary carries far to much baggage.
One of the people I've had my eye on is Wesley Clark, and hopefully he has become politically
smarter since his earlier campaign for president.

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius would be the perfect choice... that's my guess for his VP choice.

Ditto! Obama would pick up much of the disaffected female vote, esp. the over 50's.

Sebelius is as good a candidate for the VP slot as anyone else, but that might be a small slap in the face to Hillary or her supporters(?). I think Obama might go with Richardson. He'd bring in the vote from a swing state and possibly shore up the Latino vote. I'm not a big fan of Richardson though. I don't think tempering Obama's eloquence with the roundabout storytelling of Richardson is a winner for me. I'd probably go with Senator Bayh.

Sebellius would be good, but I would throw my hat in for Tim Kaine of Virginia. It would put Virginia into play and would resonate in the South.

Obviously not so quietly urging if it's showing up on the MSM, so much for OpSec General.
