Star Barbara

Update: Barbara's rep has responded to Star's war of words, telling UsMagazine.com, ""I will not dignify this with a comment. Barbara's written words say it all!"

Original Post: In her new book, Audition, Barbara Walters opens up about Star Jones, saying she lied to protect Star's secret about her gastric bypass and that Star became a bridezilla as her wedding to Al Reynolds approached.

"She was clinically obese," Barbara said of Star on Oprah yesterday (video below). "She could barely walk onto the set." But when Star chose to keep her gastric bypass operation secret, Barbara claimed "The View" co-hosts "had to then lie on the set everyday, because she said it was portion control and pilates."

Barbara also claimed that Star "wanted the biggest extravaganza wedding — she wanted to be a princess" and that she wanted to promote her wedding to get things paid for.

Today, in an exclusive statement to UsMagazine.com, Star Jones is hitting back, slamming Barbara as an adulteress in the "sunset of her life." Her full statement:

It is a sad day when an icon like Barbara Walters, in the sunset of her life, is reduced to publicly branding herself as an adulterer, humiliating an innocent family with accounts of her illicit affair and speaking negatively against me all for the sake of selling a book," Jones told Us. "It speaks to her true character."

Watch Barbara discuss Star on Oprah yesterday:

From ABC, 5/6

In the book, Barbara also comes out publicly for the first time about her 1970s affair with married Senator Edward Brooke.

Star Jones is a freak of a person, a fat blob trapped in a rail thin body, created by freak science. The fact that she thinks that anyone cares the least bit about her, or her wedding, such that companies should sponsor her wedding is so laughable. I hope both these boring airheads disappear from their very limited public eye.

Funny.....

I thought one had to be married in order to commit adultery.

I don't recall Babs being married when she had the fling.

The MAN, of course, committed adultery, being married at the time.

Shouldn't the onus be on the one who had made the commitment - and not on someone who owes the guy's wife absolutely nothing?

Star Jones is an attorney so she knows the law. Her statement is just payback.

So Barbara Walters is a home wrecker, so either way it goes it still brings to question her character. You say she owes the guys wife nothing... I am sorry how misinformed you are... She owes the guys wife an apology for the disrespect... You do know what that is right? I think Aretha Franklin wrote a song about it. But what your answers tells me is you have some issues of integrity. What gets me is how all of you people are upset that Star Jones is defending herself and she should because Barbara Walters has a history of lying and fabrication.

No, adultery is just sex between a married person and someone other than their spouse. Both people involved in the sex are committing adultery.

Once upon a time the blame all went to the "other woman." Now we seem to have swung over to blaming only the married person. I think anyone who knowingly sleeps with a married person is morally responsible for the consequences along with the married adulterer. The outsider may not have made any promises, but their actions can hurt other people. They should respect the promises of others. (The exception of course would be if the married couple had agreed to an "open" relationship and the outsider was sure of this.)

BookQueen:

Actually, Barbara is not an 'adulterer' (as Star called her), since one has to be married in order to qualify for that legal designation.

"though the definition of "adultery" differs in nearly every legal system, the common theme is sexual relations outside of marriage, in one form or another.
For example, New York defines an adulterer as a person who "engages in sexual intercourse with another person at a time when he has a living spouse, or the other person has a living spouse."[2] North Carolina defines adultery as when any man and woman "lewdly and lasciviously associate, bed and cohabit together."[3] Minnesota defines adultery as: "when a married woman has sexual intercourse with a man other than her husband, whether married or not, both are guilty of adultery".[4]"

How can one be guilty of something when one has not made any promise or oath to break or violate?

HE was the adulterer - not Barbara. At least legally.

Why do these people need to divulge the most personal aspects of their lives? I remember Senator Brooke. He was really a fine man, very popular, very handsome, a good senator. He is still alive and 88 years old. She should have kept her mouth shut out of respect for him.

That just shows how little respect she has for any one. What does she care?
That's possibly how she got most of her "inside" information for her stories. I have even less respect for her now.

SugarMan..I agree with you. These people, Barbara and Star, think that people care what goes on in their lives. They are about as phony a pair as I have seen. Star nor BaWa can keep a man...they both need to take a hormone pill and get over themselves. I can't stand either one of them.

I'm completely ambivalent about both Star and Walters -- but you can't deny that what Star said is actually true. Star trying to get sponsors for her wedding is actually less worse (in this current celebrity obsessed culture) IMO than Walters admission that she left her mildly retarded sister to die alone in hospital while she skipped off to NYC to deliver a speech for the network.

...Barbara Walters, the adulterer and home-wrecker, will not stoop so low as to dignify Star Jones, the cheapskate who advertised her wedding on TV to get freebies, only to end up marrying (and later divorcing) a gay man, with a response...

Not only did she sleep with a married man, but she seems to have absolutely NO regret for the pain that caused to his wife and children. I imagine this is pretty hurtfull to his children after all these years, to hear Barbara talking about how "fun and exciting" her affair was. I'm sure they remember the pain this caused their (now deceased) mother; not to mention the pain of their parents divorce. And then to have to see Barbara and Oprah high-fiving each other, as though it was only about them. Shameful.

i'm no Star fan - she and Al made me wanna hurl - but she Babs putting, as we say in the af-am community "her name in her mouth" was cheap and uncalled for. And Star had nothing to lose to hit back. And,really, hurting a man's family to sell your book? I never got Babs anyway. She was a media barbie doll, never a real journalist. Give it up.

Not much of a fan of Babs or the Freak - does anyone really care here. The Freak needs to go away, far far away. And Babs, you too. Both of you just go into hiding.

Well, I certainly never saw this coming, people with big egos and big salaries bickering. Don't we have some fundraisers or something for these people to attend?

I watched the Oprah interview. Barbara Walters has met some interesting people and been some amazing places. I wish the interview had focused on those.

Can we get "The View" off the air immediately and put a gag order for life on anyone who has ever had anything to do with it? I've never watched it but I do have to wonder what is it about the show that seems to reduce what I assume are at least somewhat intelligent women to cat fights? Enough already! This show is about as representive of women as Maury is to blacks.

What in the hell does that mean? There are just as many or more "I cheated on my baby daddy and don't know who the real daddy is" whites on that show"...christ, what's with these f-ing sterotypes.

I've never watched it either but I have watched some the clips with Rosie on it. I thought it was funny when she went off on Donald Trump and said "Why is this guy who cheated on all these women suddenly acting like he has a right to preach about morality to anyone?" and when she had Danny Devito on her lap when he showed up tipsy from drinking too much.

That Oprah interview with Baba left a bad taste.
If she couldn't sell her book without exposing her 'secret affair', what was that whole long long "Audition" life all about? "Audition"?
Its time to retire quietly and make a space for some unemployed but deserving novice.
Star is fading fast and her whole facade of learned-lady "holding nothing back" (except the truth) is crumbling. The two of them could take a cruise and sip mint juleps and pinky swear on a renewed BFFs forever. That we could believe.

That's half the story. The other half is the way "The Oprah Winfrey Show" hyped the "secret affair" for a week, promoting it and building up a reaction. This is Oprah's "Live Your Best Life" TV? Sure Oprah, sure. Two women with influence and power and every imaginable thing money could by, justifying affairs with married men in front a TV audience. Way to go, Oprah! Your true colors keep shining through....

Star is right and I have never liked Star. Barbra should have kept her mess to herself. And what about little Miss moral values Elisabeth where's her principles? What hasn’t she walked on principle? She always has so much to say about adultery. Yeah right. She sure ain't sh*tting where she eats is she?

I watched about 10min of the view and I was thinking the same thing. Watching everyone at the table tell BW how wonderful her book is was enough to make me find the remote and change channel. But it is nice to know that BW is making EH eat her words. Priceless. I can't stand Star but it is tasteless to talk about an former employee to others. That means BW fired the first shot. BW thinks she is untouchable and above reproach. I can't understand why, considering you are talking about an affair you had with a married man and talking about former hosts. Classy. Not! But I guess that is the delusions of the very rich, to think that they can't be seen in anything but a positive light, no matter how screwed up some of the things they do that hurt other people. BW is a big liar. She didn't have to lie for Star. Hell, Star was never important enough(accept in her own mind) to make the great BW lie for her. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeee
