Disgraced New York Congressman Vito Fossella broke down in tears on the floor of the House of Representatives today, apparently under the emotional weight of his recent behavior.

Fossella acknowledged on Thursday that he had fathered a daughter, now three years old, with a woman who wasn't his wife. News of his adultery came just a week after the Staten Island Republican was arrested for drunk driving in suburban Virginia.

Appearing on the House floor today, Fossella broke down when talking with House Chaplain, Reverend Daniel P. Coughlin, a Hill source who witnessed the event told The Huffington Post. The episode occurred shortly after the congressman voted against the Neighborhood Stabilization Act of 2008, a housing bill that passed through the House by a 239 to 188 vote.

Fossella's political and legal future is currently up in the air. He is expected to appear in court next week and could face jail time if convicted for his drunk driving charge.

According to the New York Times:

"A police report in Alexandria, Va., a suburb of Washington, said that Mr. Fossella ran a red light on Thursday just after midnight and had a "strong smell of alcoholic beverage" when he was pulled over. According to the report, Mr. Fossella told the officer that he was on his way to pick up his daughter, who needed to go to the hospital, although on Friday he said that he had been on his way to visit friends.

The report said Mr. Fossella failed several sobriety tests on the street, including a preliminary breath test on which he registered a blood alcohol level of 0.133 percent. After he was arrested, he recorded a level of 0.17 percent on another machine. The legal limit in Virginia, as in most states, is 0.08 percent."

Fossella is a wanna be tough guy. Without his powerbase he's a sniveling dandelion.
That thought brings tears to his deceitful eyes!

There's no sense wasting your time and breath on these self-righteous right-wing blowhards. The only thing they know is that God told them to do it for our country.

I see the liberal hypocrites are out in full force tonight. How quickly they forget Democrat Elliot Spitzer, screwing around with a hooker on the public dime. Slimy hypocrites!

I object and take a wide stance your your characterization of us "librul hippocrites" - Elliot did the right thing and left . . . Foley, Vitter, Craig and now Mr Floppywiner cry and whine that "God made them do it" and ask for forgiveness and keep collect'n the checks and stain' the office.

"Full force"??? not even . . .

Didn't you liberals try to claim that affairs aren't the public's concern, that it's between the man and his family? I could have sworn that was your war-cry when Bubba got caught staining the dress.

This seems to be the "proper republican response to getting caught doing something either illegal and/or immoral. They cry, beg forgiveness, blame someone else of something for the problem and go into some sort of recovery program that will allow them to hide from his constituents and the press and the law. At least, that is in theory. In fact it put him under the spotlight as never before. His tears are not because he did something wrong, but because he got caught doing something wrong. I totally agree. It's just like Randy Cunningham. It always seems that these people start up the waterworks not because of the behavior but because they got caught at it. Crocodile tears!!

He is a hypocrite for sure, however, he seems to have real serious issues with alcohol, and I hope he gets help, and becomes the father to this three year old she deserves. She should be the primary concern...

Extend some of that concern to the rest of his kids, the ones he had with his wife, who he is still married to.

McCain stopped being a "hero" when he allied himself to the Keating Five scandal. Either he changed completely, or he never was a "hero", he was just lucky his Daddy was an admiral and he got treated better than most. That was over 40 years ago, let it rest. He has ridden his war hero bandwagon long enough, time to face reality. He is a money grubbing, dishonest politician. There has to be a reason his wife does not trust him with "her" money.

Enough with the tabloid stories! Even if from the GOP. Enough waste of precious press, police and municipal funds spent on those witch-hunts. For political gain. We have much more important issues to focus on. HuffPo, please lead the way, stop covering the sleaze. It only encourages them. This is, once more, a personal matter between a husband and wife. Just as it was with the Lewinski matter.

I feel this type reporting will have a greater effect, by exposing the holy rollers. Maybe the next time they want to impeach a president for Sex with that other woman, they'd think about the sex they had with that other woman. After all, these self righteous people started this. Don't throw stones when you live in glass houses.

Wait just a moment! The conservatives and GOP went after Clinton with vengeance.
He is still having many talk show blabbers putting him down because of the Lewinski situation. How easy it is to forget how many conservative GOP politicians voted against womens allowance to make decisions about their own lives. How many GOP politicians continue to prevent some Americans from equal rights under the US Constitution. How many GOP politicians continue to rail against porn but continue to allow large companies to continue with 20% of bottom line to come from porn and say nothing! Now many of the loudest "moralists" are getting caught and you expect Liberals and progressives to keep quiet. NO WAY!! We are going to continue to highlight their hypocrisy and hold their feet to the fire until they STOP trying to tell others how to live their lives. Most progressives and liberals don't care because they understand that religious influence has no place in lawmaking or law enforcement. So if you conservative GOP and Democratic conservatives want to continue the game, then there will be some of us around to expose you moral degeneracy and hypocrisy.

Amen, FAN.
No quarter.
This whole repulsive strain has been infesting the garden far too long. They need to be utterly extirpated, root, branch, and seed.
The single biggest failure -- betrayal, even -- that the Dem "leaders" of the fading generation have foisted upon us was their willingness to "put behind us" and "move on" from the crimes of Watergate, the crimes of Iran/Contra, the crimes of the 2000 election, and every other scam the Rethugs have been pulling for the last half-century. (Always "for the good of the country," of course -- as if the Repukes would ever behave similarly.)
Concern trolls, don't waste your breath, or the bandwidth. We've got your game.

A private matter? The Guy was driving DRUNK, with nearly twice the legal limit of BAC. Furthermore, the bartender called Vito and his friend a TAXi,and the taxi was there and Vito CHOSE to drive instead of take the taxi right in front of him.

How would you be feeling right now if it was your child that drunk driver Vito killed, huh? Personal issue MY ASS.

THAT is not a personal matter my friend. THAT is a legal one. On top of that, he lied to police, another crime.

When he is convicted, he WILL be going to jail for a mandatory five days. FURTHER, if this is not his first conviction, he will be up for felony drunk driving charges, which means that he will be stripped of ALL of his benefits, pension, etc. as a member of Congress, thanks to Duke Cunningham.

His ass is in a whole lot of trouble, and I would be wathing the role the DA in Staten Island might try to play in getting the chargereduced so Vito can go quietly from politics, since, guess who is the number one contener for Vito's congressional seat? Yeah, that's right--the Staten Island DA is the top guy mentioned to replace Vito.

Let's keep eyes open on this one, folks. The possibilities of inside corrupt deals to be made are rife here.

What is wrong with the Republican party, the hypocrisy is palpable. The ones that couldn't wait to put Clinton away while not being able to keep it in their pants either are just the best.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:01 PM on 05/08/2008

Hypocrites are not just reserved for the Republicans. But, party affiliation is not the point.

The point is no one should hold office and be involved in suggesting laws that citizens must follow, when he or she can't follow the same laws.

What really gets me is the fact that these two-faced creeps are too arrogant to resign.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:11 PM on 05/08/2008

Of course party afflication is the point. After all, which party is the party of "defense of marriage", "family values", "flag pin patriotism", and all-around self-righteousness?
