Disgraced New York Congressman Vito Fossella broke down in tears on the floor of the House of Representatives today, apparently under the emotional weight of his recent behavior.

Fossella acknowledged on Thursday that he had fathered a daughter, now three years old, with a woman who wasn't his wife. News of his adultery came just a week after the Staten Island Republican was arrested for drunk driving in suburban Virginia.

Appearing on the House floor today, Fossella broke down when talking with House Chaplain, Reverend Daniel P. Coughlin, a Hill source who witnessed the event told The Huffington Post. The episode occurred shortly after the congressman voted against the Neighborhood Stabilization Act of 2008, a housing bill that passed through the House by a 239 to 188 vote.

Fossella's political and legal future is currently up in the air. He is expected to appear in court next week and could face jail time if convicted for his drunk driving charge.

According to the New York Times:

"A police report in Alexandria, Va., a suburb of Washington, said that Mr. Fossella ran a red light on Thursday just after midnight and had a "strong smell of alcoholic beverage" when he was pulled over. According to the report, Mr. Fossella told the officer that he was on his way to pick up his daughter, who needed to go to the hospital, although on Friday he said that he had been on his way to visit friends.

The report said Mr. Fossella failed several sobriety tests on the street, including a preliminary breath test on which he registered a blood alcohol level of 0.133 percent. After he was arrested, he recorded a level of 0.17 percent on another machine. The legal limit in Virginia, as in most states, is 0.08 percent."

Anyone wearing the RED team elephant logo shouldn't be running red lights, drinking and driving and voting the way they do... you claiming the high moral ground, espousing only they have family values, etc, etc. As far as adultery is concerned, I'm surprised to hear a Republican having sex and fathering a love child with someone of the opposite sex. Now that is truly newsworthy! The water works (tears) must also be a Republican trait.

I'd say they cry like little girls, but I wouldn't dream of insulting the girls like that.

At least for this Republican scandal, it was a woman he had the affair with. That makes him only half a hypocrit.

Vito Fossella voted to impeach Bill Clinton over the Lewinsky affair. How do you spell hypocrisy? F-o-s-s-e-l-l-a. Of course, a Republican will tell you that when a Republican commits adultery and then lies about it, it's a holy sacrament of the Lord....almost as holy as telling your wife you want a divorce as she lies on a hospital bed recovering from cancer.

Uh, no they won't. A republican (which I am) will tell you that his constituency should kick his butt out. He doesn't get a pass. His conduct is shameful.

Did you kick out Newt? No. Did you kick out Scooter? No. Did you kick out Tokyo Rove? No. Republicans have proven over and over again that they will always choose party over country.

At least he didn't say, "I did not have sexual relations with that woman." Like someone else we know.

Damn, you Republicans are pathetic. Is that the best you can do? Your mother would most likely wail on your ass if you used that kind of "well the other guy did it" lame excuse. The list of conservatives caught in flagrant delecto over the last 8 years is really long and not one of the perps of the party of personal repsonsiblity has come anywhere close to accepting any. Again: pathetic.

The fellow is human! he has goofed, admits to the failure. So life will go on and he will face and resolve the problem. Forgedaboudit, already!

Typical Repug response...

If it is a Democratic Party member --- "let's investigate for 6-7 years to the tune of 45 million dollars"

If it is a Repug Party member --- "nothing to see here, move along, move along, Forgedaboudit, already!
"

You're ignorant. Every conservative I know thinks this guy should be thrown out of office. He is a disgrace. So how does that make us hypocrites? And I would like to add that you have nice revisionist history. Clinton was NOT investigated for an affair. He was investigated for sexual harassment against several women. He was also investigated for a relationship with an intern that constituted abuse of power. He was impeached for LYING to a grand jury. So call us all the names you want. I'll keep criticizing ALL who are corrupt, regardless of party, and you will keep making excuses.

This from the party that's always shoving its sanctimony down our throats. What a bunch of hypocrites. I'm not about to forget and I hope the public doesn't this November either.

Yeah, just like the Rupubs and MSM forgot about Clinton and Spitzer. It was a feeding frenzy with Spitzer but Vitter, who did the same and directly contributed to the suicide of a fellow human being gets little or no press. How does the madam face 50 years in prison and the trash that made her enterprise possible get to walk?
