Arianna On Colbert

Watch Arianna's appearance on the Colbert Report, where she argues with the always clever host about why the McCain of 2000 is not the same McCain that is running for president in 2008.

You were wonderful and lovely as usual, Arianna, on the Colbert Report. I cannot get enough of McCain being called on his blatant hypocrisy, and so far we've only seen the tip of the iceberg. It appears there's not even a shell left of the somewhat straight talking candidate we saw in 2000, as he's sold every shred of ethics and principle he EVER had for this shot at the Oval Office.

I hope progress can be made showing voters how what's become the number one 'issue' in the polls, the economy, is actually the SAME issue as the occupation of Iraq, that they are cause and effect - inextricably linked together.

John McCain trying to give us another four years of this preznut'z policies, and republicants in CONgress showing no fear of backlash for voting AGAINST veteran's and women's issues is amazing to me. Let's hope it's NOT because they KNOW serious dog wagging is going to occur.

Personally I liked the acid trip.

So Stephan IS Experienced!

Don't know why I should be surprised.

Great Viagra setup, Arianna! I think she and Stephen should reprise the Lincoln-Douglas debates, satirically speaking.

Arianna, you are wondrous, beautiful, graceful, intelligent and brave. As always, you held up against the onslaught. Colbert is brilliant, but sometimes he needs to put his own talent on hold for just a minute and let his guest get in a few more sentences. When he drops his persona, you see the true man.

TV's greatest moment last year was Jane Fonda getting him completely off his game. For once, he was powerless. Google Jane Fonda Stephen Colbert, guys, and witness TV magic.

BTW, Arianna's biography of Maria Callas, a fellow Greek, needs to be reprinted. It is one of the best bios of them all.

CARTERJ:

***"Colbert is brilliant, but sometimes he needs to put his own talent on hold for just a minute and let his guest get in a few more sentences."***

I thought that was the way republicans did things. They talk all over the speaker so that the speaker can't really be heard or get a complete answer out. They don't want their republican robots confused in any way by, god forbid another opinion. I suppose their robots must be kept in the dark. Otherwise, a different opinion on an issue wouldn't frighten them so much. I'm surprised Colbert's show isn't on the Fake News Channel...it's a good fit.

btw: enjoyed the video, thanks!

Sorry, but I thought Fonda embarrassed herself on Colbert. And Colbert rocks -- anyone who can't see how much he's done to help the progressive cause isn't watching the same show I am!

Maybe think for yourself? Nah. Why start now?

Colbert did a great job showing Arianna what a whiny butt she is. I'm not surprised the blog didn't stay front page for very long.

OMG....if you actually do not GET THE GENIUS of Colbert or where he is coming from....and given the IQ of the man playing the current President is akin to a raisin.....where does that leave you???????

Stephen is a genius. Him and Jon are really good friends and learned how to maximize irony from two diametrically opposed positions (eg. they hit you high and low, from the left AND the right- but it's always about the LEFT!) Yeah! GO BARACK!

Good interview, but the interview with the astronaut on the space station sporting the "wriststrong" band was even better. You could clearly see how jazzed Colbert was.

"I guess I should say something profound and important...EAT IT JON STEWART, I'M IN SPACE!"

Stephen was a kid in the candy store who was thoughtful enough to share with his friends. I loved watching Garrett seriously crack up so many times!

If Colbert would allow himself to shut up and listen for a change, perhaps we could have heard more of Arianna's thoughts. He may be in character but the humor is lost when he is merely rude and exhibiting an out of check ego. I was not remotely amused or entertained, let alone informed by this interview. Colbert needs to come down from his cloud and get back to basics. I'm just waiting for the day that his head explodes from self-adulation, and we already know he has a big one, ha ha.

The Steven Colbert character is a mockery of a white neocon spinning talking head, BOR???
His actions are an accurate emulation of poppa bear, talking over every guest that is the least bit progressive.

jctripp It's spelled S-A-T-I-R-E. Now, think about Bill OReilly. Hang on, here we go... Now, put the words Steven Colbert, satire, and Bill OReilly together. Ok, we're making progress. Now, imagine humor. Got it? Think hard.

El, you're right on the money but I don't think you'll get your point across. Stephen's on-screen alter-ego is O'Reilly's evil twin. (Assuming an evil man can have an evil twin!)

Please, it's a COMEDY show. They were both yukking it up. I don't know if that "pull out" line was improvved or planned in advance but clearly they were both having fun. I enjoyed the segment.

Do you not understand that his rhetoric is an act? He is not right-wing, quite the opposite.
Now Jon Stewart is the one who is pretending to be a liberal and I think he is a Liebermann
Liberal. NOT!!!!!! Liberal at all but an opportunist extrodaire. Just watch Stewart.

"He is not right-wing" ???

But we don't know the real Stephen Colbert. My guess is that he is actually a conservative who is horrified by what has happened to the Republican Party.

If erection last longer than 100 years, pull out! ROFL

Oh Man that's Money. I really hope people get the message that McCain has changed. At the beginning of this process when McCain got the nod from the GOP, I thought "Hmm... Even if the repubs find a way to win this, McCain isn't that bad of a guy" Then he turned into Bush Jr Jr, and started towing the party line, and now I'm like Obama HAS to win!

Even though I can't stand Hillary, and if she finds some way to weasel her grimy little hands on the nomination, I'd vote for her because this McCain is unbearable in my mind.
