Al Gore

Bloomberg has reported that Al Gore isn't looking for an official seat in the White House, no matter who wins in November:

"I won't accept a cabinet post regardless of which of the three candidates wins the presidency," Gore said yesterday.

"I am looking for a way to bring about change in other ways," the former vice president and former Democratic presidential candidate said. Gore is in Rome to present the Italian version of his Current Media Inc.'s Current TV channel.

Gore will make a GREAT diplomat with the climate knowledge he possess. He can well represent AMERICA before the world.
He will be a refreshing face on the diplomatic scene.

You're so right! His "climate knowledge" is exceeded only by his science background.

Gore knows the mess Washington is in and wants no part of it! Can't say that I blame him! Yet, I think he will be sitting at the table in an Obama administration when the Clean Energy, Manhattan project is designed to free us from petrofuels and towards clean renewable energy. He will also be an ambassador for the Human race and that is more important than any single political post!

It is so strange and sad that the two leaders(Gore and Carter) who could have changed the World's Ecology for the better were both terrible politicians! It goes to show that politics is a dirty business and it "eats-up" honest, peaceful people!

Do you know what the real meaning of the HOPE we are all chanting is? It is the hope that we can change that kind of politics that destroys people of integrity and turns them into a Hillary Clinton!

As a person from East Tennessee who has met him and attended town hall meetings back in the day before he was a national figure, I am not surprised.
When Al Jr decided he did not want to follow in the family business there was enormous pressure on him to change his mind. He attended the seminary, flirted with journalism, but in the end was persuaded to go against his own wishes in the name of "service". Now that he's finally gotten out from under the yoke of politics I seriously doubt he'll ever go back. The longer he's away the less chance there is.

Gore has more influence outside of government than being hampered and hogtied inside. Why would he want to be limited by a cabinet position? He's been there and he knows what he wants to do. He obviously knows he can accomplish more taking a different path.

Aw, c'mon Al. The EPA is begging you to restore it to a role that actually reflects its name.

Whether Gore likes it or not, he is a powerful voice in the democratic party. He needs to endorse a candidate and show some leadership. It is a little late in the game for Gore to act like he isnt intersted and with Bill Clinton acting like he has lost his mind, this party needs someone to step up before the election is lost in November.

On this I disagree Sarah76 - Al should not endorse either Clinton or Obama.

However, once a candidate IS finalized, he should whole-heartedly get behind them.

And during the committe Al should meet with the winner, ramrod himself or other like-minded evnvironmentalists onto the platform committee, and make sure that a substantial part of the Democratic Platform includes increased conservation of energy, kicking the oil habit, developing a Manhattan-style energy research program, AND planning for viable mass transit systems.

Now there is a man of principles who knows who he is. Some aspirants for the presidency might want to learn a thing or two from the man.

I had no use for Gore the politician and was glad to see him leave that stage. However as a statesman he's really becoming a man of value.

Gore would have been an amazing and brilliant President. To look back and see what could have been in the face of what we got is heartbreaking.

Yes. The tragedy of the selection of the chimp by the SCOTUS is what we have lost in goodwill and reputation around the world, not to mention the disasters all across the board domestically. This country is now run by loonies.

If you were to sit on one of Al Gore's presentations on the future of the planet, and realize what leadership we are missing, it makes you want to put your head in your hands, and just sob.

It's kind of like Jimmy Carter. My respect for him increases the longer he stays out of the political arena.

I second that. I'd respect Al even more if he stayed out of the public eye.

I don't think it makes much difference what Al Gore's title is. He's already won a Nobel prize for his efforts on behalf of the environment, and I expect that he will continue to be a major force in the cause of global environmental consciousness.

But I'll also bet that he'll give Barack his private cell phone number, if he hasn't done so already.

Not worry -- take it to the bank that Gore and Obama are in regular contact and that their relationship is quite cordial. At the right time and place, Al Gore will do what needs to be done to ensure that Obama is the presidential nominee of the Democratic party and that he will be elected in November 2008.

I, too, was an Al Gore backer for the nomination having thought that Obama and Clinton would have torn each other to shreds by now and Gore would have ridden in on a white horse to claim what in the view of me and millions was his rightful place in our government (he was far more "entitled" to the presidency than Hillary Clinton, even during her wildest flights of fantasy).

Alas, and probably for the good, that did not happen, as much as I wanted a "Gorobama" ticket! Instead, Barack Obama showed strength, integrity, leadership, intelligence, and wisdom by avoiding as much as he could being dragged into the gutter by the Clinton machine.

Barack Obama has earned the nomination the hard way and with the support of Gore and others whose foremost thoughts are all about the future of our planet, our people, and our government, he will win the nomination and the election in a landslide, with sufficient coattails to substantially increase the Democrats' majority in the Congress.

Visualize Victory!

The country needs his input from whatever perch he picks. The world needs his input. He is respected around the world and could be an important face in repairing all of the damage these last 8 yrs have caused.

Good for Mr. Gore.. US politics exists in its current incarnation to serve only itself - not the citizens of our nation.
