The chorus from major news outlets saying Hillary Clinton's candidacy is almost impossible is growing louder as the Clintons continue to push on. The AP reports on the nine superdelegates Barack Obama picked up today. Clinton picked up one. This morning, ABC declared that according to their delegate tallies, Obama had won more superdelegate support than Clinton for the first time. This afternoon, AP's tally showed Obama within half a superdelegate of Clinton.

When asked about Clinton this morning on NBC and MSNBC, former Democratic contender John Edwards said, "it's very difficult to make the math work." Edwards has yet to make an endorsement.

Read excerpts from the various articles below:

AP
:

Barack Obama all but erased Hillary Rodham Clinton's once-imposing lead among national convention superdelegates on Friday and won fresh labor backing as elements of the Democratic Party began coalescing around the Illinois senator for the fall campaign.

ABC
:

ABC News' Karen Travers Reports: For the first time this campaign season, Barack Obama has surpassed Hillary Clinton's support among superdelegates, according to the ABC News delegate estimate.

John Edwards on NBC and MSNBC
:
The former presidential candidate told interviewers on NBC and MSNBC that Barack Obama will probably top the Democratic ticket this fall.

Hillary Clinton has said that she can still win the nomination - but "it's very difficult to make the math work," said Edwards.

It is up to the Super Delegates to finish her off, and they should do it sooner rather than later. There is no sensible reason for them to wait. From this point on she is hurting the Party more than helping it. It is one thing to hang in there when there is a real chance, but going forward based on a wish and a prayer is foolish. Irreguardless of the West Virgina, and Kentucky primaries the money is going to dry up for her. Campaign contributors big or small are not going to back a losing donkey.

The only problem with the supers all going for Obama RIGHT now is this: some of her supporters still seem to think she has a chance when winning is an impossibility for her right now.

If all the supers go for Obama, her supporters will say that the supers aren't giving Hillary a chance. As deluded as these supporters are, I believe the supers want to keep as many of these morons in the Democratic fold as possible come November.

It would be wonderful if ALL of Hillary's supporters realized the math of the situation, but there are still quite a few posters on this site who insist that "ALL THE VOTERS HAVE TO HAVE THEIR SAY", even though six small states are left - three of which will most likely go Obama's way - giving Hillary no chance to even dig in to Obama's lead in any way, shape or form.

SHe now has the chance to be the hero of the Democratic party, the next Senate leader. But she has to do the right thing now.

She has damaged her reputation and standing too much. She will never be the hero of the Democratic Party.

If Hillary gets the nomination, all Blacks would have to turn white, and all people with college degrees would have to surrender their degrees before they would be able to vote for her. And minimum age for voting would be 65.

While he can win w/o her, she would be equally an asset and a liability for numerous reasons. I wouldn't turn down the unity ticket yet. However, you look @ it - we need to win overwhelmingly because the rethugs are going to try and pull a 2000.

I've been trying to consider an Obama-Clinton ticket objectively. At one point, I thought it would be a good idea. Now, I think Hillary is not trustworthy. I think she would backstab Obama in every way possible to promote her own, personal agenda. I don't think the welfare of Obama or the Dem party would be high on her list. Hopefully, I'm wrong; but, I simply don't trust her or Bill anymore. I used to think the world of both of them.

Hillary is going out of her way to create hate and suspicion. Will she align herself with the republicans when she returns to the senate? Maybe she and McCain will sponsor a health care bill together to cover her menopause and his dementia.

Did anyone just see Clinton Supporter Carole Simpson on CNN just now?!? She says we should support Hillary because she is afraid that the White people are only going to vote for Obama in the primaries but change their vote to McCain in the fall because he is Black. Is this the argument Hillary is giving her Black supporters and they are BUYING it? This is so sad

Her argument doesn't hold up. That's why she's doing it.

Not to race bait. Because her white/vote black vote thing is just nonsense.

Hume, ALL national democrats get 90% of the black vote. ALL national democrats get 40% of the white vote. Add them up. Clinton's whole black/white numbers don't work.

Race-baiting is sort of a "plus", in this instance.

I'll ask again: who exactly is this "debate" benefitting?

I don't get it.

White people are tricking Barack Obama? What's the point of that?

I don't think it makes any sense. We don't have to accept everything they throw at the wall.

If it's just ridiculous, we could just reject it.

I think they are trying it because the numbers from past elections don't support Clinton's argument.

Kerry (and Bill Clinton) got 90% of the back vote, and Barack's white vote segment in the primaries is better than Kerrys was in the general.

90% of black vote + better than Kerry with white vote = win general.

I don't think there's anything to support the idea that those who vote for Obama in the primary will then switch to McCain.

Carole Simpson is a Clinton loyalist, and if you can recall the 92' debate which she hosted for ABC you might have noticed it then.

Her " analysis " is the white people currently supporting Barack may not in the fall. Which I think is a pile of nonsense.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:50 PM on 05/09/2008

Trust me, Obama will be a different candidate after the primaries. Yes, he will be the change candidate, but he won't hold back in going against McCain. They haven't seen anything yet if they think Obama is going to be as "nice" as he was to Hillary.

You may be pretty close to being right.Obama has been easy on Clinton, she's a woman,NO President wants to be accused of abusing a woman ,or guilty of calling ANY woman names ,like John McCain did his OWN wife. The minister who questioned McCain about the incident was 'escorted' and tossed out of the rally after he asked the question.Sorta like Bill yelling at the voter when SHE asked about Hillarys FAILED health care plan !! Some men just don't have the respect for WOMEN !!

This must be very hard for HIllary. I think she has had this run for prez as her biggest life dream for at least a decade. And she has been campaigning for 2 years straight. Must be a bitter pill to swallow. But no excuse for saying racist things and driving a wedge through the party by race and gender. Her comments to USA Today were simply dispicable, and she has been extemely divisive, and for some reason her supporters refuse to see this. She needs to progress to the 5th stage of grief....

Obama is a creation of the DNC insiders who have had it with the Clintons steamrolling them for years. The guy is inexperienced and if you think that he'd be running the country, you don't get how D.C. works. He owes so many favors, that it will be the DNC insiders that will be running the show. That's how it work folks...favor city, job city. You watch, if Hillary gets out ahead of May 20th, she will be Senate Majority leader within 12 months. It's all about, favors...real democrat=your paycheck is directly from the democrats or you can afford to donate $5K or greater. That's the only way you count, otherwise your just a voter.

He raised all the money on his own, He started the grass roote movement on his own, most of the supers were on the Clinton sideline before the campaign even began. He owes far less favors than you think, all the power brokers in the Dem party have been silent on Obama even after it is clear he is the winner. Who does he owe? Al Gore? John Edwards? Rahm Emanuelle? Nancy Pelosi? Harry Reed? Bill Clinton? none of these clowns helped him with jack shit. Most of his early support came from younger, newer Dems with little to gain from supporting him and a ton to lose if Hillary won. The only one he owes is Bill Richardson and you saw how old Bill got treated when he threw his support to Obama. The Dem party elite got blindsided by Obama, they had no intention of him being the nom after 8 years of Bush.

I suspect that there will be no more bloodshed in the coming weeks, just straight campaigning. Neither one can afford to alienate the other's camps - since the primaries are almost over. I think Obama means it when he says she's a good campaigner. Shoot, she is no matter what you think of her. While she is overtly ruthless (which is not a bad thing), Obama is covertly ruthless. You cannot survive either New York or Illionis politics being a pushover. That is fact. I think we will see a different Obama in the general and a more ruthless Hillary if she is the nominee. I relish in seeing that because McSame needs to be as Rush said about Obama "to be bloodied up." He is around her touting that he's a maverick when he votes 60% Republican and has questionable associations and a temper that worries me more than Obama's pastor or Hillary's tactics. He is talking about numerous wars and overturning Roe v Wade and all kinds of unbelievable rubbish.
