A 24-year-old Fox News Channel production assistant was fired this morning for something she said during the red carpet arrivals at the Time 100 Gala last night.

Insiders tell us the assistant, identified as Jennifer Locke, was on assignment with a camera crew to cover the entertainment angle of the event. When Sen. John McCain walked by, the assistant said, "I voted for you in the primary, you're going to win."

This surprises me, as FOX News obviously rewards other employees for their loudmouthed far-right opinions by giving them their own primetime shows. By firing an employee for expressing their personal views, they are attempting to make their "fair and balanced" claim authentic. Are they going to fire O'Reilly or Hannity next? Probably not, their ratings are far too high. I wouldn't be surprised if they publicize this firing in an effort to brainwash viewers into believing that they actually aren't biased.

Jennifer Locke, having McMean as president will do you far more harm then working at Fox. You'll be fine, but you are still stupid.

Geez, I thought that cat was out of the bag about Fox a long time ago.

Big deal, so they fire some young nobody for revealing that she is part of the Republican Ministry of Propaganda. When they fire Bill O'Lielly for promoting Bush administration policies by claiming on multiple occasions that the perpetrators of the Malmedy massacre were American GIs and the victims were the S.S., let me know.

There nothing more appealing than Bill O'Reilly's firing. A pink slip and a nice bed of vegetables to go with it.

O'Reilly would have to slap Al Sharpton live on TV to make a firing a posibility. You don't dump the #1 show in cable news for the last 8 years fir basically anything. Do you see Fox or CBS trying to get rid of the NFL?

I guess she could say, that was her LUCKY day and she didn't even realize it. HA!

I think seeing Sean Hannity fired would be the next best thing to a Democratic victory in November. Almost as good...

I'm surprised they didn't give her a promotion for being a good Republican foot soldier. Their on-air personalities are blatant, unabashed Republican shills, why is it bad for one of the underlings to admit to toeing the line?

It wasn't the "disclosure" it was the way she drooled all over his silk suit. Ruined it.

Ha, ha, ha. They fire a production assistant, while their on-air personalities run amok at the mouth. I suppose this is part of their effort to remain fair and balanced.

But their on air personalities always keep it fair and balanced, I keep telling you it is in their contract.

Knowing Fox, she probably failed the miniskirt test and they're just using her comments as an excuse.

Why do you think they are # 1 the miniskirts work.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:51 PM on 05/10/2008

They work, but only if you mute the sound so you don't have to actually listen to any bullshit right-wing propaganda. I like my fascist Fox girls to be seen and never heard.

She has no case she violated the fair and balanced clause in her contract.

She was fired for telling the truth on Faux. That was unacceptable!

The bleached blonde, over- siliconed-titted, dim-witted twits that Faux News continues to employ -- WHO CARES ? I stopped watching Faux News many months ago. My husband continues to watch those idiots just because he hates them so much and is constantly stunned by Sean the Sham, et all's, lying and slamming of Obama. But I WILL be watching those clowns the night Obama is elected our next President. Ohhhhhh how sweet that's gonna be.

such language.

So, lets see... does this mean Sean Hannity and Bill O'Riley are next?

Oh, I get it. That's why they call themselves independents. As long as they pretend that they could vote either way, they"re allowed to push all the GOP talking point Roger Ailes gives them, and the network believes that such a ruse will preserve enough journalistic credibility for them to call Fox News "fair and balanced".

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:16 PM on 05/10/2008

No because they are fair and balanced, O'Reilly is very fair even had One liberal and One conservative to discuss his interview of McCain, after the interview, and Alan Combs is a liberal, so that balances out Hannity and combs.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:03 PM on 05/10/2008

You forgot the quotation marks. They're "fair and balanced." It's not accurate without the quotes.

I think they should have just insisted on an apology and explained to her what the policy is supposed to be. There is a big difference between a 24 year old news neophyte making this kind of a statement and a 35 or older doing the same.

Considering the context, it wasn't that big of a deal.
Maybe Faux News is too self conscious about their reputation in the rest of the media.

She should have read her contract.

I hope she has the balls to sue the bejezus out of Fixed News. At a minimum I believe she might get an out of court settlement.

We have seen this before... like Mr. Shuster having to pay for the "sins of the Father" - Matthews.

Fox is a right wing spin machine...

You can have cable. I'll stick with the News Hour, NPR and a few newspapers.

Journalistic integrity is dead on cable. All Opinion ALL the time.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:02 PM on 05/10/2008

And you think their not biased. What a joke.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:08 PM on 05/10/2008

Everybody in the world is biased. A real Journalist attempts to give you facts not opinion. Journalism is dying in favor of opinion that parades as "truth." This is true for cable news and the internet. The internet is place where discussion is segregated to people who think alike - it's a hall of mirrors. If you have a different opinion you are a neo-con scum-bag named Karl Rove TROLL.

NPR at least gives background details and both sides of the story before taking at dig at one of the sides. (And it's not always the conservative side they dig at.) NPR assumes that the people listening want to know the context of anything before they make a judgment. There is no such thing as a "sound bite" on All Things Considered, or Morning Edition. It's either the whole story, or none of the story if there is no story and just a statement (i.e. they don't analyze a single sentence out of context.)

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:47 AM on 05/11/2008

Not exactly true, there's plenty of 'sound bites' on All Things Considered and Morning Edition. But NPR also includes "To the Point" and other programs where they spend an hour on one subject.

I personally prefer CSPAN.
