Jenna Bush Married

Jenna Bush tied the knot with Henry Hager Saturday at her family's ranch in Texas. From the AP:

Jenna Bush couldn't see herself getting married at the White House surrounded by antique furniture and oil portraits of presidents. She and Henry Hager opted to say "I do" Saturday at President Bush's ranch in Crawford where the corn is thigh-high, roads are named Cattle Drive and the Texas flag is painted on the rooftops of barns.

Away from the glare of television cameras that have beamed other first family weddings into American living rooms, Jenna's outdoor wedding at the ranch reflects her family's penchant for privacy and her preference for the casual over grandiose.

Even without the prying eyes of strangers, Jenna's marriage to her longtime boyfriend Henry Hager will make presidential history. It will be remembered as an upbeat moment of Bush's two-term presidency beset by terrorism, war and the nation's current limp economy.[...]

Jenna, 26, is the 22nd child of a president to get married while their father was in the Oval Office.

Best wishes to them both.

From comments Jenna has made in the past, I think it is possible that she may actually try to comprehend what is happening in the world around her, some day. Not likely, but still possible.

On the day of their childs wedding, every family, high or low, deserves congratulations, for both the bride and the groom.

However, tommorrow, we need to get right back to calling the President out for his foolish policies, and poor choices.

WHY, WHY DO THEY DESERVE CONGRATULATIONS?

This romanticizing of marriage is a cultural cliche. Fifty percent of American marriages end in divorce. Fifty percent. And of most of the ones that don't, the marriage likely becomes one of sheer convenience. Take it from a guy who failed to learn his lesson the first time around....

a snarky blogger who spends his Saturday night attempting posting philosophical comments about the institution of marriage in response to jenna bush getting married ... that is a cultural cliche.

I have always maintained that those statistics were bogus. Couples like my grandparents and parents and in-laws were responsible for four death-do-us-part marriages, but Elizabeth Taylor got counted 7 or 8 times for her failed marriages. That kid of skews the statistics.

I wish them the best &, as far as Bush, she consider him to be a great Dad. I don't have a problem with it because I don't hate Bush. Even when I'm called for a survey, I always add that even though I disapprove of the job he's doing, I do like him. Congress also believed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction but still people like to put the blame on him alone.

Don't tell me -- you were one of those guys who thought it would be cool to have Bush as a drinking buddy.

i am the biggest Dubya hater there is, but every time i read about this girl, i marvel at how sane and interesting she is. Toni Morrison's "The Bluest Eye" is the book that changed her life. She does public service. She is loyal to her family but not slavishly cheerleading the murderous idiot her father is in office. I believe that she might be an ethical "rags to riches" story, where she is capable of compassion and mental health despite her parentage. I hope this is true. i need a reason to feel less despair!

You know nothing about her, except how she portrayed in the media, so how can you say this?

She worked as a volunteer for UNICEF with AIDS victims in Central America for several months, and she's worked the last three years as a teacher at an elementary school in the D.C. public school system. Almost all her students are underprivileged.

How do you do "rags to riches" when you're born with a silver spoon?

The Bush Family Evil Empire is obscenely wealthy from the last hundred years of war profiteering. They've expanded the operation into cheap prison labor and conning school districts into buying Neil's (savings & loan thief) software.

She's just padding her resume for a future in continuing the pillage her family is so well known for.

I agree with you. I loathe Bush but I refuse to hold this women responsible for the criems of her family. Give her achance...perhaps she won;t follow in the footsteps of her father.

Well her daddy followed in the footsteps of his daddy. War, bad environmentals, shoddy economy. Lets just hope that she never attains public office!

This is not a political story, people. Get a grip. Jenna is not responsible for her moronic, war criminal father. She's not even a politician. Leave her alone. Show some civility.

She seems like a good kid who is trying to do some good in the world based on the book that she has already authored. None of us choose our fathers. So here's one American who opposes all that her father stands for wishing her a beautiful wedding day and a long and happy life.

I agree, we don't pick our parents, and her father's term can't end to soon, but I wish her good luck.

Good luck to her.

We do, unfortunately, visit the sins of the fathers on their children and there are a few to visit here, aren't there? I feel sorry for the lot of innocent relatives in the family.
