McCain Flips On Abortion: Won't Challenge Party On Rape, Incest Exceptions

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is facing enormous pressure from social conservatives to ignore his repeated commitment to change the GOP's platform on abortion.

"If he were to change the party platform [to recognize exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother], I think that would be political suicide," Tony Perkins, the president of the conservative Family Research Council, told ABC News. "I think he would be aborting his own campaign because that is such a critical issue to so many Republican voters and the Republican brand is already in trouble."

A senior Republican close to McCain told ABC News that building a more inclusive G.O.P. is a top priority for the Arizona senator.

But this adviser does not see changing the party platform to include exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother as necessary for achieving that vision.

This is a perfect example of the McCain campaign's defensiveness about age. Barack Hussein Obama made no reference whatsoever to McCain's age.

Every American knows John McCain is old. What every American needs to know is how he runs a negative campaign without admitting to it and how flummoxed he sounds when asked to describe political and military events in Iraq.

It is a matter of morality and intelligence. Old age is not the issue.

Pro-choice women (e.g., NOW, EMILY’s List) should know that Clinton’s continuing, now divisive ambition is not in their interest.

Her last stand is really about the “Wright vote”.

Perhaps she should run a poll on whether Hagee or Parsley matter in how voters view McCain. Most voters are unaware of their toxic sermons because they’re too busy "working hard".

If the media dedicated 42% of political coverage to Hagee and Parsley in April AND McCain’s half-hearted denunciations, his religious base would splinter similarly and his polling numbers among independents would fall.

I agree, for many of Hillary’s hard working Americans, Wright was a pretext, or a latch-on issue that they could finally point to as a reason not to vote Obama without having to admit they were having difficulty (as Democrats) electing a man who failed by the “1-Drop Rule.” It even allowed some to deceitfully claim, “I was planning to support him all along but then this Wright thing happened.”

Why do I know this? Because many Americans sticking with Obama have hard-working “Clinton relatives” that have privately admitted as much.

Caution, female Clinton voters now “leaning McCain” or planning to stay home will have Roe v Wade overturned.

I'm afraid the sad reality is they WOULDN'T splinter...because most of them AGREE with Hagee & Parsley! The mainstream CORPORATE media don't want Obama in the White House. He won't meet their needs and protect their special interests like McCain (and Clinton?) will.

But I must say...forcing women to give birth to unwanted children might cost corporate america a few bucks! (But they may get a return on their investment once they reach enlistment age.)
