Michelle Vetoes Hillary As Veep Pick

Close-in supporters of Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign are convinced he never will offer the vice presidential nomination to Sen. Hillary Clinton for one overriding reason: Michelle Obama.

The Democratic front-runner's wife did not comment on other rival candidates for the party's nomination, but she has been sniping at Clinton since last summer. According to Obama sources, those public utterances do not reveal the extent of her hostility.

A footnote: Support is growing in Democratic ranks for Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland as vice president. He would bring to the ticket maturity (66 years old), experience (six terms in Congress) and moderation (rated "A" by the National Rifle Association). He is very popular in Ohio, a state Republicans must carry to elect a president.

I have listened to some of her stump speeches and find her to be such an arrogant phony, and yes, I think she is using fellow blacks to get the nomination, but once he is nominated if he is, and elected if he is, like those in her thesis, she will return to the "white society" and forget about all the black masses who look upon him as a Messiah and someone who will help them, like the Clintons did while in the WH.

I have felt that the Repugs knew they didn't have chance in hell of winning the presidency this, but they might manipulate the primaries to get the weakest candidate which might give them a chance. I have listened to die hard staunch Repugs, like Peggy Noonan, Bill Kristol, and Frank Luntz, their wordsmith and chief pollster and focus group leader, praise Obama as an unbeatable candidate. and thought, now why would these Repugs want to help the Dems. nominate the strongest candidate. Why would they when they will do anything to stay in power?

The other consideration is how much racism is there in this country? I know by working at the phone band for my candidate, there is a lot, unfortunately. I have lived all over the northern part of the country......Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, NJ, NY, Washington and Oregon, and still have friends and/or family in those states, and there is much resistance to voting for a black man. Some of it is associated with the same reaction people had about Clinton's BJ in the WH, some of it is just plain racism and some will come from women who want a woman to be president......and feel that Hillary has been badly by the media bashing and the DNC not giving her the votes from the primaries she won in Michigan and Florida......those people will never accept Obama as a legitimate candidate.

Don't panic. When the smoke clears, Hillary will take her "well earned" place among the party elites. It will all be negotiated and she will be nowhere near the VP slot. The numbers simply do not work. Her negatives are second only to Dubya.

Considering the 500 million that supporters have given to Obama and Clinton, it would be a drop in the bucket and if it would have the effect of having her shut up and go away, it would be a very good thing. At this point, I don't think that she can be of any help to him. Her supporters are either going to come to terms with the outcome or they are not. Obama has asked us not to worry about this. I think we should take him at his word and let him take care of it.

She is right. We need to take this opportunity given to us and make a complete and total break with the past. Yes, the Clinton years for many were very good. However, there is all that baggage to consider. There are other options for VP that would be better choices. Kathleen Sebelius would be my early pick, because of her experience as a governor and her years of experience in state government in general, but many others would bring unique skills and experience to the table as well. Unfortunately, Clinton would be an albatross around Obama's neck, because of all the polarization associated with her.

Totally agree. With HRC (and with her you get Bill) there is no way to have a working relationship between Pres and VP. HRC has been too divisive and critical, and each attempt by her (sincere or not) to be active in the administration would be perceived as part of some Machiavellian plot for her ascendancy to Pres.
