Obama Rally

Today, May 10, marks the first day of what the Obama campaign is calling its "Vote For Change" project. From barackobama.com:

On May 10th, Barack Obama is launching Vote for Change, an unprecedented 50-state voter registration and mobilization drive. More than 100 events will be held across the country that day. Obama volunteers will register new voters as the start of a six-month voter registration drive.

Marc Ambinder has more on just what this project entails and its potential impact:
The Vote For Change program will lay the foundation for Obama's general election get-out-the-vote efforts. Obama aides won't say much more, but I gather that the campaign is constructing an incredibly elaborate online interface to allow its more than a million donors and volunteers to directly persuade their neighbors through a variety of media. Names gathered from the voter registration effort will be merged with names gathered through Obama's primary efforts and the names off of the Democratic Party's integrated voter file as well as lists purchased from outside vendors.

On election day, Obama might have more than a million individuals volunteering on his behalf. That should scare the beejeesus out of the McCain campaign and the RNC.

It appears the success of the Vote for Change Registration Drive has anyone who does not support Barack Obama in an absolute panic. You can read it in their comments.

As I told one below, they can either join us on the train or get left behind. Either way, they will reape the benefits of Obama's Presidency just as we (his supporters) will. After all, Obama will be the President for all.

This is quite a remarkable undertaking. Obama is bringing in millions of new voters to the Democratic Party. This is truly the way for Americans to take back their government. It has the potential to provide the accountability and transparency we so desperately need. Change, as Obama says, happens from the bottom up, not from the top down. And Hillary thinks the super delegates will abort this to give the nomination to a corrupt old school pol like her? Dream on.

Evil1inModeration claims Obama is a war-monger:
Speech by Barack Obama delivered on 26 October 2002 at an anti-war rally in Chicago:

Good afternoon. Let me begin by saying that although this has been billed as an anti-war rally, I stand before you as someone who is NOT opposed to war in all circumstances.

After September 11th, after witnessing the carnage and destruction, the dust and the tears, I supported this Administration’s pledge to hunt down and root out those who would slaughter innocents in the name of intolerance, and I would willingly take up arms myself to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.

I don’t oppose all wars. What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other arm-chair, weekend warriors in this Administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.

Now let me be clear – I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity.

He’s a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him.

But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history.

But we're "spreading democracy" one drop of blood (AND OIL) at a time!?

We should not have totally obliterated (liberated?) IRAQ!

We should not threaten to totally obliterate IRAN!

We SHOULD drag Bin Laden out of PAKISTAN...and call it a day!

DEMOCRATS GROW A BACKBONE!
BRING OUR TROOPS BACK HOME!

I HAVE TO STRONGLY CAUTION ALL OBAMA SUPPORTERS WHOSE STATES HAVE NOT YET VOTED, PLEASE GET OUT AND VOTE WHEN YOUR VOTING DATE ARRIVES. THE RACE IS NOT OVER, SO DO NOT BUY INTO WHAT THE MEDIA IS SAYING. THEY ARE GIVING OFF A FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY.

IF THE MEDIA ARE ABLE TO GET OBAMA'S VOTERS TO STAY AT HOME, WITH THE FALSE SENSE THAT OBAMA HAS ALREADY WON, HILLARY WILL WALK OFF WITH THE NOMINATION, BECAUSE YOU BETTER BELIEVE THAT HILLARY IS TELLING HER SUPPORTERS TO GO OUT AND VOTE.

OBAMA SUPPORTERS, THIS RACE IS NOT DONE UNTIL ALL THE VOTING IN EVERY STATE IS DONE.
SO OBAMA VOTERS GET OUT AND VOTE, NO MATTER WHAT THE MEDIA SAYS, OBAMA NEEDS ALL YOUR VOTES, THIS RACE IS NOT OVER UNTIL ALL THE STATES HAVE VOTED!!!

I'm a little worried about Obama's turnout as well. I think that's the biggest problem with the media pronouncing Obama the winner. It will not change the outcome of the race but it won't look good either.

I disagree. The issues he is raising have nothing to do with frustration or anger.

He is upset when Obama doesn't put his hand over him heart during the playing of the National Anthem?

Nothing requires anyone to do that.

Not saluting? Civilians don't salute. The reason a civilian President does not return the salute of a uniformed service member is to show the civilian authority over the military.

Why would trying to get everyone to vote backfire. I am confused. I just think we are all tired. We have had to deal with The Clintons for so long now we have to gain our second wind and deal with McCain and the Republicans Party.

It won't be easy; nothing worth it ever is; there will be good days and bad days but a new horizon is on its way.

Hang on in there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a historical event in America's history: unprecedented voter activity; unprecedented levels of interest. Is this reflective of the hatred Americans feel for their neocon corporatist masters? For George W. Bush? For the Cheney Wendigo?

No! We feel sorry for the stupid old has-beens. This is fate. Coyote has drawn a line through the world and we follow. I told you this would happen.

Look at France and Sarkozy: another hero chosen over France's potentially first female President. A year later the hero has fallen. The same fate echoes across the ocean: our hero will fall in our eyes as the realities of America's troubles will destroy his popularity within two years. Obama will demand sacrifice from us and we will -because we are addicted to our American Dreams of excessive consumption, cheap energy, and privileged status in the world eye- REBEL.

So be committed to your hero TODAY: love and accept change and hope, but understand that you will asked to sacrifice and to personally contribute to America's Renaissance.

AND beware! Remember that in America there exists a shadow government that rebels against the will of the people and assassinates our liberal heroes. Surround your hero with a hundred bodies all willing to take a bullet or a suicide bombing for the sake of your families.

Good Luck America!

Coyote

From the (conservative) Sunday Telegraph:

Barack Obama 'has enough super-delegates to win Democratic nomination'

By Tim Shipman in Washington
Last Updated: 1:03AM BST 11/05/2008

Barack Obama believes he has already secured the private support of enough super-delegates to beat Hillary Clinton in the race for the Democratic White House nomination, The Sunday Telegraph has learned.

The Illinois senator last week switched his attention to the general election battle against John McCain after locking down more than enough pledges to reach the victory target of 2,025 delegates.

A senior Democrat strategist, familiar with discussions at the highest levels of the Obama camp, has revealed that Mr Obama is now confident of the support of around 120 of the remaining 260 undeclared superdelegates.

His aides believe he will only need between 70 and 80 to be sure of the nomination if he wins the Oregon, Montana and South Dakota primaries as expected later this month.

And if 25 million voters are ready to vote for more war, for the overturning of Roe vs Wade, for the end of civil rights, for the steady decrease of the dollar and the steady increase of the price of oil, for more jobs shipped overseas and more politicians pandering to corporate interests instead of to theirs

Then those 25 million people deserve each and every second of what they're going to get.

It's a damn shame they have to drag the rest of us down with them.

What a beautiful thing to see. Everybody can ask, "What's so special about Obama?" all they want but the appropriate answer doesn't regard what is special about him but how special he challenges us to be. If the only change we see is Americans trying to bring this country back to greatness again then isn't that all we need? I can't wait to have government "representatives" that actually care to represent us and not their own preconceived goals. Exciting times!!!

I think what's special about Obama is that he's a TRUE progressive liberal.

That he can openly and proudly say he's a progressive liberal. He thinks that the average white person is racist like his grandmother. He thinks black on white hate, racism, and bigotry is justified. He thinks it's wrong to salute our flag or where his flag pin. He shares his wifes and pastors shame of America, he thinks moderate and conservative voters in the "fly over states" are Ignorant White Christians who cling to their religion and bible out of bitterness and he thinks it's cute to stand up in from of his liberal supporters and to bash same fly over state dwellers. He thinks getting a 6 figure discount on his house arranged by a criminal is not corrupt.

All of that makes him very SPECIAL. A "uniter". One who takes the "high road". "Different politics".

YAWN. Right. More left wing hate wrapped up in a smiling black man. Big deal.

Besides the inspirational aspects, it's a "beautiful thing to see" a Democrat who is organized, hard working and disciplined.

Obama is running a primary campaign, running a massive voter registration effort, and he just shifted seamlessly into general election mode.

Apparently, wonder of wonders, they had a plan and they're sticking to it.

All without leaks, infighting or massive warring egos dominating the news.

This is a first for Democrats. A campaign that works.

Watch them blow it, and hand it to the train wreck that is Clinton Chaos.
