Obama Rally

Today, May 10, marks the first day of what the Obama campaign is calling its "Vote For Change" project. From barackobama.com:

On May 10th, Barack Obama is launching Vote for Change, an unprecedented 50-state voter registration and mobilization drive. More than 100 events will be held across the country that day. Obama volunteers will register new voters as the start of a six-month voter registration drive.

Marc Ambinder has more on just what this project entails and its potential impact:
The Vote For Change program will lay the foundation for Obama's general election get-out-the-vote efforts. Obama aides won't say much more, but I gather that the campaign is constructing an incredibly elaborate online interface to allow its more than a million donors and volunteers to directly persuade their neighbors through a variety of media. Names gathered from the voter registration effort will be merged with names gathered through Obama's primary efforts and the names off of the Democratic Party's integrated voter file as well as lists purchased from outside vendors.

On election day, Obama might have more than a million individuals volunteering on his behalf. That should scare the beejeesus out of the McCain campaign and the RNC.

May I suggest Chris Dodd, 4 VP, on the basis of trust?

If he could be made leader in the Senate, definitely support that as an alternative.

Our current DLC leader in the senate bends like a Reid in the wind.

Big fan of Dodd, especially since his standing up against Repubs AND Dems in the senate to halt the approval of the telecom immunity in the SPy on Citizens bill. He would get my thumb's up.

Edwards was DLC too, didn't deter many from supporting him. I think Dodd made a bit of a break from them when he faced off against them on the telecom bill.

Yeah, but he doesn't act like it. He was the one who wanted to filibuster the "Protect America Act" renewal when everyone else wasn't willing to come off the campaign trail.

No you may not. The Governor of Connecticut, who would appoint a replacement for Dodd, is a Republican.

Dodd and Biden or Edwards are my choice if Al Gore doesn't except..Even Mike Bloomberg.

But I think it will be Hagel to unite both parties to kick out the remaining Neoconmen that took over their party. Some republicans are fed up with how their idealogy has been run over roughshod for 8 years. The conservatives are disgusted with how much bigger the Bush Presidency has grown government, compared with the Dems. The mounting deficits everytime a dynasty family takes over the House.

But if he's smart, he'll pick Boxer or Sabelius.
And we know he's brilliant.

How brave of SNL to skewer Hillary after the MSM has decreed that she's lost. Anyone else remember the unfunny debate sketches just before the OH and TX primaries? "Bitch is the new black?"

SNL is like Hillary, somehow, despite their having lost any reason for a following, they just keep hanging in there.

Obama Spending May Swamp McCain, End Republican Edge (Update2)

April 11 (Bloomberg) -- Barack Obama will likely overwhelm John McCain in campaign spending, if the Illinois senator wins his party's presidential nomination, in what would be the first time in four decades a Democrat will enjoy such an advantage.

And he could do it whether he accepts federal campaign- finance limits or raises all the money privately.

You know something Bucky, I had the same thought on my mind just yesterday about Webb. He is a reformed Republican and has that respect on both sides too. Also he had such moxy to campaign with his active duty son's combat boots and wore them in the House while voting no to Iraq. I like my Senator here in VA. Never thought I'd like a republican because I'm AA and they don't like me or respect me as a citizen.

I'm for a Obama/ Webb ticket too. They are all so good these new dems and some of the old. It's a hard decision and should be left up to Obama and Obama alone. He knows the American People's hearts and who they won't put up with as an official. He does his research and makes proper and sound judgements..

We will be alright with his decision, whomever he picks as long as it isn't another dynasty elite family with no moral fiber to their souls.

Taking what he learned as a community organizer on the south side of chicago, NATIONWIDE. Political scientists will be studying Barack Obama's beautifully run campaign for decades to come.

If american's really want to see how a candidate will run the country just look at how well they run their campaigns.

Obama runs his campaign will precision, he hires the best people, recruites die hard supporters to push his message to the masses. When a gaffe or a serious problem arises (bittergate, wrightgate), he and his campaign swiftly come out and do damage control and he weathers the storm. His online strategy is second to none. He revolutionized online fundraising for decades to come. From now on the American people are going to demand candidates go to them for money and not special interests.

Hillary's campaign was a total mess. She ran as the presumptive nominee from the beginning. No post-super tuesday strategy. ALOT OF WASTED MONEY. For example, a bill for $5,000 worth of party platters in IOWA, come on!

McCain dances around the campaign finance regulations like it's his senior prom!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:34 PM on 05/10/2008

I agree with your assessment. Textbooks will be written about how he revolutionized campaigning in America. Republicans, Independents, and Democrats alike will use this as a model to elect their respective candidates.
The "status quo" way of doing politics will be officially over with the official nomination of Senator Obama for Democratic nominee for President.

The McCain-picked Republican National convention head resigned today after a Newsweek report revealed the man’s lobbying ties on behalf of the military Myanmar government.

AP: “Doug Goodyear resigned as convention coordinator and issued a two sentence statement: ‘Today I offered the convention my resignation so as not to become a distraction in this campaign. I continue to strongly support John McCain for president, and wish him the best of luck in this campaign.’ Goodyear is chief executive of DCI Group, a lobbying firm that Newsweek reported in a story posted online was paid $348,000 in 2002 to represent Myanmar's junta.”

From the (conservative) Sunday Telegraph:

Barack Obama 'has enough super-delegates to win Democratic nomination'

By Tim Shipman in Washington
Last Updated: 1:03AM BST 11/05/2008

Barack Obama believes he has already secured the private support of enough super-delegates to beat Hillary Clinton in the race for the Democratic White House nomination, The Sunday Telegraph has learned.

The Illinois senator last week switched his attention to the general election battle against John McCain after locking down more than enough pledges to reach the victory target of 2,025 delegates.

A senior Democrat strategist, familiar with discussions at the highest levels of the Obama camp, has revealed that Mr Obama is now confident of the support of around 120 of the remaining 260 undeclared superdelegates.

His aides believe he will only need between 70 and 80 to be sure of the nomination if he wins the Oregon, Montana and South Dakota primaries as expected later this month.

(WASHINGTON) — Barack Obama erased Hillary Rodham Clinton's once-imposing lead among superdelegates Saturday when he added more endorsements from the group of Democrats who will decide the party's nomination for president.

Obama added superdelegates from Utah, Ohio and Arizona, as well as two from the Virgin Islands who had previously backed Clinton. The additions enabled Obama to surpass Clinton's total for the first time in the campaign. He had picked up nine endorsements Friday.
