Nyp Gephradt

Remember four years ago when the New York Post announced to the world that Dick Gephardt was going to be Kerry's pick for vice-president, except that it wasn't true, not one word of it, not even a syllable? Good times! And we were all reminded of those good times this morning on Fox News Sunday when the most genius man in punditry, William Kristol, confidentally predicted that Richard Gephardt would be Obama's vice-presidential pick. And it took Terry McAuliffe pronouncing Tim Russert's father - who is very much alive - dead and in heaven for my brain to to add a triple toe-loop to the quadruple axel spin that it did at this moment.

[WATCH.]

WALLACE: Who do you think he should pick or might pick?

LIASSON: I think he needs someone with foreign policy experience. By definition they'll be older than him. I think if you want to do the easy route, Ted Strickland probably will get you Ohio.

WALLACE: Governor of Ohio.

LIASSON: Which is a state that you really, really need. He doesn't have foreign policy experience. Ed Rendell.

WALLACE: Governor of Pennsylvania.

LIASSON: If they need him to get Pennsylvania I don't think that's not such a good thing for the Democrats. Sam Nunn I think would be great, but he's a little old.

WALLACE: I'll give you one name.

KRISTOL: Dick Gephardt.

WALLACE: Former congressman, Missouri.

KRISTOL: Former Democratic leader in the congress. Very attractive to working class Democrats.

WILLIAMS: Very nice, but old news.

Uhm, yeah. Very attractive to working class Democrats. Who powered Gephardt to the presidential nomination all of ZERO times.

Naturally, one has to allow for the possibility that Kristol is making a one-in-a-million prediction here. So, if he turns out to be correct, I promise to bake him an apple pie while wearing a prom dress on the roof of the Newseum.

Obama needs to reinforce his foreign policy platform, not his standing with the "white blue collar" voters. To be honest anyone who will not vote for Obama because he is black probably won't vote for him simply because he has a white VP. The Dems will unite behind Obama. What Obama needs is a running mate that will counter the Republican foreign policy/security attack that is sure to come.
I think Wes Clark, Webb, or someone in that mold is who they are looking for. I wonder what Gary Hart is up to these days?

Kristol is out of his element when he attempts to weigh in on Democratic politics. My darkhorse pick for VP: Gov. Ritter of Colorado. The convention is in Denver and Ritter is a popular Governor in a region that is tilting toward the Democrats. Look at the enthusiasm that would generate coming out of the convention.

Dick G. ? Could a more light weight running mate be picked? Wait until the Republicans get into his lobbyist background and clients!!!

I predict Richardson will be his running mate.

Hmm... you think picking an Hispanic VP is going to get those old white ladies to finally get onboard? I don't think so!

Obama will pick a white VP with some southern roots. I hope it's not Edwards again. I hated seeing Edwards holding hands with that knob John Kerry. Yuck.

I predict Obama will pick someone like Russ Feingold, Al Gore, or Michael Bloomberg.

VP - Jim Webb
AG - John Edwards
Sec. Defense - Wesley Clark

All makes sense.

Bush hired a few good people (although for political reasons) that really wanted to good job and was capable of doing of doing a good job, but decided to leave because of his foolishness. Some of them should be consider as well. At least they know at little bit about what was in the heads of the bush administration. Someone sain needs to be able to tell Obama's team the inside rational.

I can think of at least one person, but you all are going to say... I only saying because he's black and I black. But Colin Powell is a true stateman, and he would make a fine contribution.

I also think Rice could add value (no leadership position) for advisory purposes. She knows where the bodies are buried, her body language as of late would like suggest that she has a difference opinion with the direction of the Republican agenda. Why else is she saying she's ready to go back to teaching.

Jim Webb????? WTF!!!

Are you nuts. I would be surprised if Senator Webb, an retired career Marine Officer, Annapolis grad, and Vietnam war hero would even shake hands with Obama now that it has been revealed that he and his wife shared a 20+ year personal and professional relationship with the likes of the weathermen underground terrorists William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn.

Same with Wes Clark.

Last, it has been said that Edwards told his own advisors that he thought Obama was a "p*ssy".

Obama will very soon be with out any friends.

Go cry and bite your pillows. Because silly Obamabots have no hope of ever growing a brain.

Like I said your best hopes of a dream ticket if Obama gets the nomination will be

Obama/Chomsky or Obama/Zinn or Obama/McKinney

cause no Democrat with a future will want to have anything to do with him.

It has already been said by Congress that it cannot be Jim Webb because they'll never get
the Senate seat in Virginia back.

My theory..........OBAMA & Clare McCaskill (of Missouri)

Repeating Sean Hannity's talking points is pretty dumb. No one cares about Ayers, except for people who were never going to cast a vote for Obama anyway.

I remember reading some story about Gephardt crying after losing one of his campaigns. Was it '88 or '92? Nice guy, but he used up his all chances long, long ago.

Sounds like Kristol and McAuliffe were both smoking something heavy on today's morning shows!Either that or it just goes to show that brain lapses aren't exclusive to Dems or the GOP. In Kristol's case, I'm sure he was just messing with Wallace's head.

Like anyone on the left would ever take advice from the likes of Bill Kristol.

Not going to happen... Clark is a Clinton Stooge. In fact if you would have gotten the nomination last time, I sure he would picked Hillary as is VP. It would have been a good thing then. But know they are old school not because they are old but because that whole little insider group needs to be shaken up and put out the game for a little while.

I like Clark, but surely there equally qualified and probably more talent people that we just haven't heard off.

The VP slot. Webb, Webb, Webb. I have been saying that from day 1.

Or maybe a women just to piss of Hillary and rule out her ambition to be the first woman president. I would like to see a Woman president and there is no question that a women can do the job. But Hillary was just not it. She was just not the one folks. The President should first and formost be honest and a little humble. Hillary was neither Also, It's not the time to have an interest group president. Hillary trying to prove that women can run things had already planned to staff up with women - she said it. Obama does not appear to be interested in staffing up with African Americans just to prove a point. In fact he may have less African American than say Clinton would because he doesn't need to pander.

He'd be about as exciting a pick as Joe(mentum) Lieberman.

McCain will make Lieberman his Secretary of Gerontology so that Liebsie can be standing just behind McOldster's right ear at all times, whispering the preferred talking points and "correct" answers to questions asked. Americans will hear a constant stream of "All Iran, All the Time," as McOldster's lips move with a quizzical look on his face, and drool running down his right shoulder.

Good grief! When did "genius" become an adjective?

I expect better writing than this from HuffPo bloggers.

Kathleen Sebelius! She has the experience, the age, she'll bring in the women, the working class, the midwest, the populists, AND SHE'S NOT HILLARY! Perfect in so many ways. Plus, between her and Obama, Kansas may go blue for the first time in decades.

I have nothing against Gephardt. I haven't given any thought to him as the nominee -- but I've always liked him.

Bill "the Bloody" Kristol however -- is a world class Ass-Hat.

Gephardt is boring, looks like Howdy Doody and the media will constantly whine that Gephardt has more experience like they did with Dukakis/Benson.

He needs to pick General Wesley Clark.
