Nyp Gephradt

Remember four years ago when the New York Post announced to the world that Dick Gephardt was going to be Kerry's pick for vice-president, except that it wasn't true, not one word of it, not even a syllable? Good times! And we were all reminded of those good times this morning on Fox News Sunday when the most genius man in punditry, William Kristol, confidentally predicted that Richard Gephardt would be Obama's vice-presidential pick. And it took Terry McAuliffe pronouncing Tim Russert's father - who is very much alive - dead and in heaven for my brain to to add a triple toe-loop to the quadruple axel spin that it did at this moment.

[WATCH.]

WALLACE: Who do you think he should pick or might pick?

LIASSON: I think he needs someone with foreign policy experience. By definition they'll be older than him. I think if you want to do the easy route, Ted Strickland probably will get you Ohio.

WALLACE: Governor of Ohio.

LIASSON: Which is a state that you really, really need. He doesn't have foreign policy experience. Ed Rendell.

WALLACE: Governor of Pennsylvania.

LIASSON: If they need him to get Pennsylvania I don't think that's not such a good thing for the Democrats. Sam Nunn I think would be great, but he's a little old.

Story continues below

WALLACE: I'll give you one name.

KRISTOL: Dick Gephardt.

WALLACE: Former congressman, Missouri.

KRISTOL: Former Democratic leader in the congress. Very attractive to working class Democrats.

WILLIAMS: Very nice, but old news.

Uhm, yeah. Very attractive to working class Democrats. Who powered Gephardt to the presidential nomination all of ZERO times.

Naturally, one has to allow for the possibility that Kristol is making a one-in-a-million prediction here. So, if he turns out to be correct, I promise to bake him an apple pie while wearing a prom dress on the roof of the Newseum.

Please NO, not Gephardt. I lived in Missery for a long time, and Gephardt is a twit.

Who in the hell are these people on FAUX NEWS...lol. They were all sitting there looking all sad as if they've lost their best friend, stirring the pot tryin to help her as much as possible, (race baiting of course). Is any Dem in his right mind going to listen to Bill Kristol and the Fox f-ed up crew (just put a pour salt all over Juan Williams head, he's such a slug) ...AS IF! What a pathetic bunch!

I am pretty high on Strickland because of his Ohio appeal and experience. I don't think national security is an absolute necessity. I think executive experience is just as important.

I think most are born that way. Trust fund babies, famous dads/moms, silver spooned with a sense of entitlement and every opportunity given them.

BILL KRISTOL . . . PREDICTION????

Whole lee key wrap!! With Bil's "prediction" record we'd be better off listening to Jean Dixon . . . and she died in 1997.

Bill's fifteen minutes are LONG gone, and is testament to Republican fixation with lies, incompetence and failure . . .

BUT...BUT...

William Kristol is a columnist for the New York Times. He HAS to know what he's talking about...doesn't he?

Kristol (who has spent much print elevating Hillary and disparaging Obama) is trolling once again. Many of us remember Dick "Suicide Belt" Gephardt's little deal that helped sabotage Dean's primary bid, thereby sealing a 2nd term for Bush. We are not ready to forgive that or any other DLC treason.

The Senator from Virginia, Mr. Webb, is the right choice because Obama needs someone that has a strong military background and who is well liked within the military ranks.. . Anyway I have Webb in the office pool... Richardson is my number 2. Edwards is my AG. Clinton needs to go away far far away... As for Mr. Gephardt - yawn!

He's better off staying in the Senate where he can have some influence. He is miltary and he has been very hawkish....and very conservative. I think I'd pass on Webb for VP. Secretary of Defense? Yeah, if he'd take it.

I think Senator Webb would be a great choice. He could block the Swift boaters and go at it with McCain, maby get McC on tape having a hissie fit .

As for Kristel, he has been wrong about everything forever! He still thinks the war is going fine and W has been a great president.

Bill Kristol has been so accurate in all of his other predictions. Not. I just hope he's not predicting the Red Sox will win the World Series again, because I'd really like to see it happen, and it doesn't need the Kristol Kiss of Death.

I have learned to put my total trust in everything Bill Kristol says. The guy's predictions are just uncanny ... uncannily wrong.

Gephardt is Evan Bayh on Metamucil, and neither of them bring much to the table.
There are only three possible answers, as I see it:
John Edwards, Al Gore, or Hillary Clinton.

Edwards secures the southern white male vote that Obama apparently needs. Moreover, he is, to use an overused metaphor, Obama on Steroids. He is the one that drives Obama's visions home...and vice versa. He (and Gore) have been the thought leaders all along. He would be my choice.

Al Gore brings job experience and urgency.
Hillary brings women and many voters, not to mention her husband and the CGI folks.

These are the three who are ready to step into the office on day one. These are the ones to be looking at. Not Gephardt. Not Bayh. Not Barr. Not Neodemocrats, like Webb. There is no time to teach them about a new product. Everyone knows Gore, Edwards and Hillary. They have been vetted. They have already shown that they can win massive votes. They are leaders.

Don't let Chaos confuse your minds. Clarity not confusion. Eight years is enough.

I like your thinking, anonyMoses, except I think there is more on Hillary's baggage than we know. That fraud trial will be heard in the fall and also Bill Clinton's activities to make so much money in the last few years would be open to intense scrutiny. Baggage was my biggest reservation against Hillary although I will certainly vote for her if she is the nominee or if she takes the VP slot.

Edwards couldn't even win his own state for Kerry and Hillary has proven how dead end she is as a candidate. Both are absolute losers as VP candidates, and Gore would never consider it.

I am not an Obama supporter, yet quietly and behind the scenes in the Obama camp there was some talk about having Jim Webb as Barack Obama's running mate long ago. Speaking as a political negotiator and one of the people responsible for securing Saddam Hussein's agreement to withdraw from Kuwait in 1990, essentially ending the Iraq War or conflict as it was known by us back then, though we do not know enough about Jim Webb, we feel that he would be a much better choice than Dick Gephardt. As a person who knows and understands politics to a greater degree than most Americans I would strongly advise against Dick Gephardt. If I were Barack Obama's closest friend and advisor, I would likewise do the same. There are many things that the general public does not know and many will feel that Gephardt is the man. By the way, I am wondering what use is my opinion to the editors of the Huffington Post in a small comment section of their online publication?

If you are going to get all serious and all, pick something more substantial for your "serious" comment. No one in their right mind would listen to little Billy K. Arianna etal posted this story for kicks, I hope.
Actually, I think that Bill Kristol would be the IDEAL running mate for John McCain. Both usually wrong, terminally greedy and incompetent.
