Nyp Gephradt

Remember four years ago when the New York Post announced to the world that Dick Gephardt was going to be Kerry's pick for vice-president, except that it wasn't true, not one word of it, not even a syllable? Good times! And we were all reminded of those good times this morning on Fox News Sunday when the most genius man in punditry, William Kristol, confidentally predicted that Richard Gephardt would be Obama's vice-presidential pick. And it took Terry McAuliffe pronouncing Tim Russert's father - who is very much alive - dead and in heaven for my brain to to add a triple toe-loop to the quadruple axel spin that it did at this moment.

[WATCH.]

WALLACE: Who do you think he should pick or might pick?

LIASSON: I think he needs someone with foreign policy experience. By definition they'll be older than him. I think if you want to do the easy route, Ted Strickland probably will get you Ohio.

WALLACE: Governor of Ohio.

LIASSON: Which is a state that you really, really need. He doesn't have foreign policy experience. Ed Rendell.

WALLACE: Governor of Pennsylvania.

LIASSON: If they need him to get Pennsylvania I don't think that's not such a good thing for the Democrats. Sam Nunn I think would be great, but he's a little old.

Story continues below

WALLACE: I'll give you one name.

KRISTOL: Dick Gephardt.

WALLACE: Former congressman, Missouri.

KRISTOL: Former Democratic leader in the congress. Very attractive to working class Democrats.

WILLIAMS: Very nice, but old news.

Uhm, yeah. Very attractive to working class Democrats. Who powered Gephardt to the presidential nomination all of ZERO times.

Naturally, one has to allow for the possibility that Kristol is making a one-in-a-million prediction here. So, if he turns out to be correct, I promise to bake him an apple pie while wearing a prom dress on the roof of the Newseum.

After the Iraq War debacle, I wouldn't trust a NeoCon to pick the blue plate special while staring at the lunch menu.

Kristol knows about as much about the way Obama thinks as he does about US foreign policy, which is frighteningly little.

Would that delicious but rather unsightful (unsightly?) spectacle occur on January 20, 2009 at the beginning or the end of the Obama inaugural parade down Pennsylvania Avenue, after the swearing-in?

If so, I'd pay big buxx to see that! Matter of fact, I suspect enough other people would too, enough to retire all Hillary Clinton's campaign debt INCLUDING the detestable Mark Penn!

Visualize Victory!

Hey, now... Bill Richardson is an excellent choice for vice president because of his vast experience as Governor, Representative, UN Ambassador, and Energy Secretary, and because he brings regional and demographic strength to the ticket. The fact that Obama choosing Richardson for VP would cause Hillary to eat her own liver is just icing on the cake.

Wouldn't it be ironic, BOTH Obama and Richardson are half white. What a powerful team that would be. Experienced, progressive, new politics, balanced, African American and Hispanic voting bloc to go with a sizable white bloc, young people, independents, moderate Republicans, moderate and young evangelicals.

McCain and the Dark Side won't know what hit them.

Hillary on the supremes is less insane than the thought of bill, but still....

Hillary Clinton is a deeply corrupt and compromised individual.

Thats a good thought. The Brits do it . (I'm a Brit)
When Ministers screw up they sometimes get 'kicked upstairs' meaning they are made a Lord and have to sit in the House of Lords. Perhaps Hillary's justice should be a seat on the Supreme Court. It will definitely make her more careful about her words!

Hillary has shown a distinct tendency to abuse power, and thus should never get anywhere near lifetime tenure, let along lifetime tenure on the Supreme Court.

Can't blame Kristol.

When he was Dan Quayle's chief of staff, the job of Veep was pretty much down to "keep your mouth shut and don't embarrass yourself."

I'd put Webb as my second choice behind Bill Richardson, former UN Ambassador, former Energy Secretary and highly popular 2nd term governor of New Mexico. Besides his strong brains and brillilant resume, he is the most successful Latino politician in US history, and would bring New Mexico. Colorado and Neveda in, and make a play for the Latino votes in Texas, Florida and Virginia.

But just look at this guy's response to one of Bush's SOTU.

He's a born leader and will slam dunk any remaining doubts voters may have on Obama.

So 70 years old Sam Nunn IS too OLD to be a Democratic Vice-President.... yet 75 years OLD John McCain ISN'T too old to be a Republican President??

Can not the GOP keep a cohent point of view??

Everyone knows with automobiles and people, it's not the age, it's the mileage!

In the case of John "Older Than Dirt" McCain, the man is a walking infirmary, and that's just based on what we know which is not much. The man's had a serious form of melanoma, hewas all busted up when he baled out of his plane in Vietnam, was tortured in the Hanoi Hilton by the NVA, and undoubtedly suffers from a nasty case of PTSD. At 72, he's an old 72.

He's running for president, by the way.

In the case of Sam Nunn, at age 70 and by all accounts is in pretty good health. Even if he was not in the best of health, he'd be running for VP, not the top job. Big difference -- look at Dick "Darth Vader" Cheney, for example, but not cross-eyed or else he'll have coronary and croak on the spot.

For a number of reasons, Nunn would be a good choice, as would former Sen. Bob Graham of Florida (with gubernatorial and legislative experience), who you'll recall led the lost cause of trying to vote down the resolution to wage war ON Iraq. The man actually read every word of the documents to which senators had access and found the Bush administration's case non-persuasive.

As for others, I suggest that Obama consider former Sen. Max Cleland from Georgia, a genuine war hero and a smart, stand-up guy. Talk about an "I support the troops" deal!

Kristol is predicting Bobby Jindal of Louisiana will be McCain's Vice Presidential pick, which seems every bit as absurd as predicting Gephardt as Obama's pick. (Not that there's anything wrong with Jindal, other than he's unknown outside of Louisiana.) Kristol just likes to toss stink bombs.

At one point, Kristol suggested McCain consider Condoleeza Rice as his running mate, so that he could launch racial/ethnic/religious attacks against Obama, then say "But we Republicans are not racists....see who my running mate is!"

Florida Governor Crist seems like McCain's favorite, and he did deliver a death blow to Romney by winning Florida. It will be interesting to see how Republicans like having a gay Vice Presidential nominee.

Why is Bill Kristol being quoted? The man is well past being a joke and ridiculed. He is a national disgrace, because all of his PNAC policies and predictions have brought us nothing but death. He is a national disgrace.

Someone whom I obviously do not remember recently posted the possibility that HuffPo is a Repub submarine. Being an addict of course I hope it is not the case.

But Arianna was a Republican until recently. When did I miss the self-critique?

This same right wing bung hole mouth predicted Hillary would be the Democratic nominee.

Why oh why do the media keep trotting out these same tired right wing fools on T.V. to give opinions on anything?

Okay, Bill Kristol said it. So who's Dick Gephardt's exact opposite? That's who Obama will pick, based on Kristol's Law of Opposites.

You gotta think it'll ultimately end up being either Richardson or Webb.

And the only reason I say Webb is because he'll help Obama carry an important swing state in Virginia. They were at least on the right track though. Unless Obama goes for a mass appeal guy like Richardson, he's going to pick someone from an important state that will put Obama over the top in that state; so it'll either come from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Missouri or Florida.
