CNN:

Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign rejected suggestions Sunday that Sen. Hillary Clinton is staying in the race in hopes of brokering some kind of agreement with the likely Democratic nominee.

"I don't believe that Sen. Clinton is looking for a deal," Obama's chief campaign strategist, David Axelrod, told "Fox News Sunday," when asked about suggestions she may want the Obama campaign's help retiring her campaign debt.

"I don't think that's what this is about," he said.

Last week, Obama sparked rumors that his campaign would pay off Clinton's campaign debts once he secured the nomination.

I'm out of here. My replies keep showing up under comments other than those I was responding to. That might make good Dada, but it makes lousy political dialog. All I can say is, I hope the Democrats win in November and I'll do whatever I can to make that happen.

Good night.

"Bill Clinton is one of the few former Presidents in American history who has left office and shrunk in stature during his post-Presidential years. He has squandered that special historical majesty that virtually all former Presidents develop once they exit the Oval Office. It’s an aura that grows as partisans start to gradually forgive a former foe and view him as the embodiment of a respected institution. Even Richard Nixon enjoyed a “comeback” in terms of media respectability towards the end of his life." -- JOE GANDELMAN, Editor-In-Chief of The Moderate Voice

WSJ said it best about the Clintons:

It took 10 years, but you might say Democrats have finally voted to impeach.

No...the article was about the Clintons and the Democratic party. The party really tolerated a lot from these two to get two terms in office.

The impeach line has nothing to do with the presidency...it has to do with the relationship between the Dem party and the Clintons. Whatever else you want to say about the WSJ, this article is spot on

It's not about what sort of president he was. It is more about how poor a leader of the party, and what a non-team player he has been since he left office.

But the way the party shrank during his presidency does not reflect well on him, either.

MM5 is quoting from a WSJ editorial called The Clinton Divorce. It's not about their marriage but about their break with the party and the party's break with them. There is a comment to that editorial that is insightful, here it is in full:
""The Democrats have gotten exactly what they wanted. They enabled and excused the Clintons for years, and now they are stuck with them."
I don't think Prouty means by 'stuck' that Hillary will get the nomination, I think she means that they just won't concede and the party is stuck with figuring out how to change that, so far with little success, I want to add.

responding to
"The Clinton Divorce."

I saw on another thread, the new Hillary tactic is to attack the media, Obama and SDs and others supporting him as ganging up on poor Hillary because she is a woman.

That's when the Mickey Mouse theme song went through my head...albeit with different words:

V-I-C,

"C" how gullible I think women voters are?

T-I-M,

"M" I going to bow out gracefully, you f*ckin' crazy?

H-I-L-L-A-R-Y.

I really believe their is a mental health issue here, not that she's crazy nor that this is anything other than of an incidental nature, but her obsession with winning in general and the presidency in specific has become so consuming, she is literally destroying herself to fight for something that any rational person would realize in unachievable.

After the primaries are over, she really seems like she needs some serious psychotherapy to be a constructive person again.

That's quite a few americans feeling also. We have no interest in a Clinton for Vp choice. Its funny now that after its been said she wouldn't get it from the Obama camp, they leak it she wasn't interested in it. They want to get something to get out now, just to save money. She's just trying to hurt his chances now, and think she'll have a chance in 2012, which she's already screwed herself for that by the way she's campaigned, and put herself in front of the party.

Matthew Yglesias nails it:

On television, of course, it's difficult to make a nuanced point but it occurred to me when discussing the whole "should Hillary drop out" issue that a decision to end her campaign needn't deprive the Ellen Malcolms of the world their chance to register a vote for the first viable woman presidential candidate. If she announced that she was done campaigning on Monday, she'd still be on the ballot in West Virginia on Tuesday -- and in Kentucky a week later -- and she'd still probably win both states.

Folks are still out there voting for Mike Huckabee, after all. The difference is just that Huckabee isn't actively campaigning for their votes. He's endorsed John McCain and receded a lot from public view. And conversely, receding a bit and starting to transition to playing a constructive non-presidential role in Democratic politics is available to Clinton even if she doesn't drop out. What the party needs from her, fundamentally, is for her to avoid spending the time between this weekend and Puerto Rico launching a constant barrage of attacks on Obama. That's consistent with dropping out or with staying in the race, and dropping out is consistent with her most loyal voters still voting for her anyway. The specific modalities aren't very important, it's about shifting the national discussion to the problems with McCain.

I'm gonna miss the Clintons and Bushes. You know, we've had a Clinton or a Bush as President or Vice-President since Jan. 20, 1981. Just won't seem the same without one of the dynasties in power.

People,
I had to stop by to share this information. I went to look at various newspapers in W. Virgina to see what they were printing about our candidate. In one town, an article was printed about a child, 11 years old, who said he sold his bicycle and video games, etc. to give a donation to the Clinton campaign. The donation came to 440.00. I thought, what evil people! How can you accept money from a child who sold all he had to give to your FAILED campaign? Are they really that obvioiusly money hungry that they could do this? I was sick to my stomach! I am thoroughly convinced now that they will stop at nothing to get that 11.4M debt resolved. I can't see Senator Obama doing that if his campaign was in the state hers is in. I am so disgusted about this I could scream!
Here is the link to read the article: http://www.timeswv.com/local/local_story_132172723.html
The child gave the donation to Bill who should have won an oscar for feigning emotion. The article said he was left speechless and nearly came to tears. They should be ashamed! Even you Hillary supporters who refuse to attach yourselves to reality should find issue with this. Absolutely sad.
Peace!
