CNN:

Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign rejected suggestions Sunday that Sen. Hillary Clinton is staying in the race in hopes of brokering some kind of agreement with the likely Democratic nominee.

"I don't believe that Sen. Clinton is looking for a deal," Obama's chief campaign strategist, David Axelrod, told "Fox News Sunday," when asked about suggestions she may want the Obama campaign's help retiring her campaign debt.

"I don't think that's what this is about," he said.

Last week, Obama sparked rumors that his campaign would pay off Clinton's campaign debts once he secured the nomination.

"Clinton's Top Gun: "I Have Seen No Evidence of Interest" in VP spot"

PHEW!...That's a relief...because we have no interest in her.

It has nothing to do with hating Hillary, because that's simply not the case. It's about a candidate who through her own machinations destroyed beyond repair any goodwill that existed or could have existed. At the end of the day, it's a shame really, because of everything that could have been.

This has been hard for a proud card carrying Democrat to say- I have decided, with a lot of pain, that I will vote for John McCain in the general election for President and Democrats down the ticket.

Any time you see the phrase "card-carrying Democrat" you know you're dealing with a troll. Simple as that. I'm a Democrat and I don't have to carry a card to prove it. It's in how I live my life every day.

Which is how I twigged onto it yesterday. "Card-carrying Democrat" is code brought back from the 1950s when the Repulsives were connecting Democrats with Communists.

Give her Secretary of State then. She's hawkish enough to talk about bombing Iran, but unlike the Bush Regime, Hillary wouldn't be able do anything without Obama's consent, much less Congress approving beforehand. She's smart enough to do the job, and it may help appease her supporters.

Anything would be better than having Rice there right now.

Off topic, but I'm trying to think of which states McCain will carry in November, after 6 more months of a cratering economy, 6 more moths of constant bad news from Iraq, 6 months of people learning that he means 4 more years of Bush or worse. AZ, and then what?
MS, AL, FL, ID, WY. WV, KY, TN, MS, TX, IN, OK, SC? Then what?

A second McCain aide resigns. Marc Ambinder:

Doug Davenport, the regional campaign manager for the mid-Atlantic states, founded the DCI Group's lobbying practice and oversaw the contract with Myanmar in 2002.

"Doug has tendered his resignation and we have accepted it," Jill Hazelbaker, McCain's communications director, wrote in a e-mail.

He joins former DCI Group CEO Doug Goodyear, who resigned yesterday from the post of convention CEO after Newsweek reported that DCI was paid more than $300,000 to represent Myanmar's ruling junta.

Goodyear and Davenport were recruited by McCain's campaign manager, Rick Davis, who has been accused by some current and former McCain advisers of take insufficient care of McCain's reformer brand by appointing lobbyists to key positions. Ironically, as Newsweek reported, Goodyear was asked to become convention CEO after Davis's lobbying firm partner, Paul Manafort, was nixed because of his own close ties to foreign governments and controversial companies.

John McCain's top economic surrogate, Carly Fiorina, says that Economists don't matter:

STEPHANOPOULOS: How do you defend that gas tax holiday? I was talking to Senator Clinton last week. and asked her if she could name a credible economist who could support it, and she couldn’t. Can you?

FIORINA: No, I can’t, but, you see, I don’t think it matters. I’m a…

(CROSSTALK)

STEPHANOPOULOS: How can you say that, though?

FIORINA: Because I think economists sometimes argue about the theory. Economists, right now, are arguing theoretically about whether we’re in a recession or not. An American family who is sitting around the kitchen table wondering how they’re going to pay for groceries, fill their gas tank, whether they’re going to stay in their home, whether or not they can send their kid to college this fall. For them, the economy is in difficulty, and all the theoretical discussion is, sort of, irrelevant.

People have to realize that McCain would head this country into compete economic collapse. I am not using hyperbole his new tax plan and staying in Iraq for 100 years for a war or occupation would bankrupt this nation. Then the true challenge of the 21st century Chinese economic, political and military expansion will dominate the century.

http://www.prospect.org/cs/articles?article=mccains_delusional_tax_plan

The worse possible thing the next president could do is lower the corporate tax rate and not get rid of tax loopholes. US Corporations already pay far less then most countries based on the real measure of their tax burden as a percent of GDP. Republicans are trying to run a scam by pointing only to corporate tax rates rather than what taxes they actually pay. Let's not get fooled again.

Relax. By November, after Obama debates McCain and everyone knows that McCain is offering nothing but more of the Killer Chimps policies, and the voter registration drive turns out millions more new voters, and the recession deepens, gas goes up to $4.00, and the war continues to deteriorate, McCain will be lucky to approach Dole territory.

And actually, discussions about Obama's running mate are perfectly relevant right now.

I agree, and I think it's something that's been overlooked in this discussion, not only between us but by the MSM as well. Both the media and Hillary have been talking for some time about this racist demographic that will never vote for a black man. They call them "blue-collar" workers; but we all know that blue-collar workers come in all colors, and many of them are in fact supporting Obama. Yet, the "blue-collar workers that Hillary and the media have been referencing are white people who will vote for Hillary solely because she is not the black candidate. What's troubled me is the media's blatant indifference to this shameful sector of our nation, which they have virtually sanctioned as an acceptable reality of the electorate. I realize that it IS a reality, but should it be acceptable as well? Can you imagine the outrage if African Americans or Latinos or Asians were known to never vote for a white candidate, solely because of the color of their skin! It would immediately be perceived as something very wrong, and all kinds of psychologists and sociologists would be brought in to try to explain it or fix it somehow. I know that no earthly being is capable of changing the hearts and minds of people who are unwilling to embrace change, but to ignore the implications of this circumstance and the fact that Senator Clinton is consciously appealing to racists to save her campaign, is unconscionable.

I could see him getting the dumb vote, maybe, but the racist one is a bit of a stretch.

One thing Obama should search out for in the general is Republican support on foreign policy, no not the neocons but the Howard Baker types. I even think an endorsement by Colin Powell would be huge. I think Obama really passed Clinton on foreign policy matters during the campaign. He turned a perceived weakness into a strength. This is another reason that Jim Webb may be the best name on the ticket with Obama as well. Webb is an old school foreign policy conservative which is one of the few times conservative is a good thing.

Screw the Republicans. They're toast. They don't matter. They're irrelevant. If Obama is half the candidate some say he is, he will brush their America-hating asses aside and get on with the the business of fixing this poor, battered, broken country.

I think you fundamentally don't understand what kind of politician Obama claims to be. His entire premise as a politician is that the vilification of those from the other party (or even in the same party, it seems) is the root cause of the division in the country. This is because it leads to the 50% + 1 governing model, which inevitably leaves almost half the country alienated. It seems like you can reject Obama based on whether he can deliver a different approach, but it's harder to deny the consequences of this divisiveness.

In all honesty, McCain is no Bush and to suggest he is seems a bit disingenuous. Granted, he is a conservative and holds positions which are easy enough to disagree with but he hardly can be attacked for being a Bush/Cheney. I will defiinitely vote for Obama in the general and hope he runs a campaign that will allow him to lead ... and not just govern.

Yeah, that's what Neville Chamberlain said about the Nazis. I say squash them like bugs and sweep them aside. That's exactly the same as they feel about Obama. Only a fool would break bread with those who want nothing but to destroy him.

Why? Why? Why?Would it even be offered to her and to repeat myself - why? why? why? would she ever accept, considering the way her husband managed to marginalize his vice-president. As the media keeps suggesting - her options are still open. But now she must consider her real career. One in which she has proven herself and she is damn good at -- the Senator from new York. From now on she can only jeopardize her possibilities in moving up to leadership positions in that august institution. This week will be really interesting to see if she wants to commit political suicide.

Hillary's not seen as a "damn good" Senator by all New Yorkers. Unlike Obama, she hasn't sponsored a meaningful bill on important issues...unless you include her pork barrel earmarks (she may be the "porkiest" with earmarks in the billions).

Many in NY and around the country would support and contribute to a more progressive Dem challenger when she is up for re-election.

Well she seems a lot better then her running mate who is up one side and down the other on so many issues plus his nonsensical couple the "Baileys". When she comes up for re-election this whole episode will be history -- but a history that could cost her.
