CNN:

Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign rejected suggestions Sunday that Sen. Hillary Clinton is staying in the race in hopes of brokering some kind of agreement with the likely Democratic nominee.

"I don't believe that Sen. Clinton is looking for a deal," Obama's chief campaign strategist, David Axelrod, told "Fox News Sunday," when asked about suggestions she may want the Obama campaign's help retiring her campaign debt.

"I don't think that's what this is about," he said.

Last week, Obama sparked rumors that his campaign would pay off Clinton's campaign debts once he secured the nomination.

Just Imagine...how ugly it would become if Hillary and the Republicans were fighting it out for the Presidency ....they thought Whitewater was bad...We would be held hostage for 6 months of negativity and ugliness. Hillary is not the little victim baking cookies as she portrays. Her affair with Vince Foster would have been exposed...they are saving that one in case she ever becomes the nominee. It would have been ugly.

So, what was the final count for the nominee at the Convention? Anyone have the numbers yet?

Adding Hillary Clinton to the ticket will mean having to deal with all her baggage and all of Bill Clinton's baggage.

You know, Ronald Reagan actually beat the Russians by spending them into the ground. Obama may find himself doing the same thing. Unfortunately for Clinton, I cannot see anyone donating money for her to do so. After watching her campaign they must know she's incompetent.

From NBC/NJ's Mike Memoli and NBC's Abby Livingston
GRAFTON, W.V. -- In the week since disappointing results in the Indiana and North Carolina, Hillary Clinton’s stump has focused not so much on her policies, but on both her gender and the words of encouragement she’s received as she tries to rally new support in the few remaining contests.

Today, this was evident as she held a “Mother’s Day Celebration” in this town, the so-called “Home of Mother’s Day.” Clinton told the crowd that she drew inspiration from the example of women who came before her, be they historical figures like Harriet Tubman and Sally Ride or her own mother and grandmother.

“Women have been standing up for what we believe in, defying convention and going forward for a long time,” she said.

She also acknowledged that women, including herself, have “experienced a moment along the way when your own sense of limitless possibility collided with a harsher reality.”

“Women face a lot of barriers, some visible, some invisible,” she said. “And in 2008, it’s really important we recommit ourselves to making sure that our daughters and our sons have an equal chance to lead and serve in the future.”

I don't generally pore over words looking for hidden meanings or studied ambiguity, and the like, but this time I have to ask: is the above some kind of admission that she has lost the nomination?

From the Politico:

"The legions of Hillary Rodham Clinton backers still investing their cash, energy and emotion into her faltering bid for the Democratic presidential nomination seem driven not by the reasonable expectation that she can beat Barack Obama, but by the emotional desire to see her through to the end of voting and stick it to those who have already written her off."

I took it as her saying that her strong desire and ability to lead has been met with opposition from the "mean old men out to get the "honest, hard-working, determined woman.'" in other words, bs'ing and playing the gender card once again.

McCain is a huge misogynist and it will come out in the general. His answer to equal pay for equal work for women, get more training. I guess he just thinks woman are just not qualified. While Obama has several woman as top aids McCain is an all boys club.

This brings up a subject that has been bothering me a bit. I hope Obama puts Samantha Powers back on his foreign policy team the duo of her and Samantha Rice were awesome.

How can Clinton ever claim to be electable at this point?

$30MM in the hole and even with their $109MM she can only tap into $12.6MM more of that as community property. The fact is most of their income is Bill's. She would be such a drag on the Democratic party trying to get to zero. She would have to accept public financing and have no financial advantage over McCain. It's a hard fact but the Dems need money to get the grass roots voters out to vote. That's the key this election. If the Dems can turnout their vote they will surely win in the Fall.

I saw a little bit of Romny the other day. Boy is he a slug. He has to be the most insincere candidate for anything I can remember. He reminds me of one of those Republican idiots I used to work with who thought being Republican was a birth right like the house of Lords who could never explain why Republicans were good for the country. They are definitely the Hobbesian Republicans.

I find it difficult to believe that, even if Mark Penn was that dumb, not to know how delegates are awarded in the democratic primary, that Hillary herself or Bill didn't realise the error and still went along with his strategy?

I know she ran a pretty bad campaign, but to run one on that magnitude? I think that's a little too much, even for her, I mean even if she had the people she described as her base running every aspect of the campaign, do you mean to tell me she's one of her base as well?

Bill and Hillary are, in my view, arrogant, and arrogance can sometimes overlook the obvious, I guess that is where the phrase 'blind arrogance' comes from? They were maybe too arrogant to even brush up on the different rules for the different states. It's not that implausible. Look at how they didn't even plan for after Super Tuesday, even the most justifiably confident candidate should have planned for that scenario---of her NOT running away with it. Just to play safe. But arrogance...

Their first problem, and biggest, I think, was the fact that they believed her winning was inevitable. Their air of entitlement from the time Obama started to win was disgusting. The way they would insult entire states and people who didn't vote for was what helped change my entire opinion of them both. Bill's finger wagging didn't help either. You are right, they ran a filthy campaign, and I think they deserve to pay their own debt. She said, "Whatever happens, we'll be fine." That's good enough for me.

Uh. Russert started this "paying off her debts" rumor.

The Obama campaign is not going to do it. They need this money for the fall.

She can reach into her 109 million dollar fortune and pay it off herself.

The Clintons made over $20MM last year. They have zero money problems. Bill made $10MM on speeches alone. Paying Bill to talk is like giving the Clintons a license to print money.

1) The Clintons do not have anything like 109mil. They paid something like 36 mil in taxes, and gave a good bit to charity, and obviously have spent some of it.

Yes, They could write a check for $25mil and still eat in nice restaurants. And they would replace it in short order. But let's just keep the apples and oranges in different bins, shall we?

2) The MOST that Obama can give directly to Clinton is $2000. Fact.

"She once described herself as "the most famous person you know very little about." But as she careens across the country in a desperate attempt to rescue her campaign, America is coming to know Hillary Clinton all too well.

The tenacity that even critics praised suddenly looks tawdry. The persistence against impossible odds appears anything but noble. Long after the party is over, Clinton's refusal to go home is taking on the trappings of a sad spectacle.

Her inability to accept defeat is not, it seems clear, about public service or even politics. It is merely personal.

With Barack Obama on a glide path to the Democratic nomination - he has insurmountable leads in delegates and popular votes - Clinton's cringe-inducing performance is doing what her harshest critics never could. It has ripped away any pretense that she actually stands for something." -- Micheal Goodwin

I think I have to agree with the poster who said the problem was "we DO know you".

In a very short period of time, Hillary Clinton has gone from a strong Democratic Presidential candidate to an also-ran with delusions of grandeur.

What I think many fail to appreciate yet is how strong Obama comes out of the nomination process. Clinton was the presumptive favorite just 9 months ago - seemingly unbeatable against all but the longest odds. Obama not only beat the money machine of the Democratic party (big DLC donors) but out organised the Clinton campaign on the ground. I also suspect that there is a lot of unstated opposition to the Clinton's just beneath the surface in the party leadership, which would help explain the increasing willingness of superdelegates to either declare for Obama. This, in combination with a ground game that puts pressure on McCain in quite a lot of "red states" gives Obama a tremendous base to move forward into the general election.
