LOS ANGELES — Actor Dennis Farina was charged with a felony Sunday at Los Angeles International Airport after a loaded gun was found in his carry-on luggage.

When the weapon was discovered at a security checkpoint, the 64-year-old actor said he had forgotten the .22-caliber handgun was in his luggage, police said.

Farina was booked for investigation of carrying a concealed weapon, said Sgt. Dennis Beacham. Bail was set at $25,000 before police discovered the weapon was not registered. Charges were upgraded to a felony, and he is now being held in lieu of $35,000 bail.

Farina's latest film, the Ashton Kutcher-Cameron Diaz comedy "What Happens in Vegas," opened Friday.

Farina has starred in TV's "Law & Order" series and in such movies as "Snatch" and "Get Shorty." The actor is also a former Chicago police officer.

Calls to Farina's lawyer and agent were not returned Sunday.

He's a former cop. He should know better.

Regardless of his recent error in judgment, I loved Dennis Farina on Law & Order. I was sad to see him leave the show.

There was another actor ( I'll be kind and not mention his name) who for years claimed he was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was "busted" by a nationally known 'exposer' of fake 'veterans' of that conflict. The actor had played the same sort of roles as Farina. Cops, Gangsters, and more Cops. Played a lot of soldiers too. After a while he had convinced HIMSELF he was in Vietnam! The borderline between reality and role-playing is very thin in Hollywood. Ronald Reagan crossed the same thin red reality line now and then, believing in his own mind that he had combat experience in WWII because he made movies where he faked air battles in real planes. Farina just suffered from a crossfire of synapses that convinced him he was some sort of unofficial 'air-marshall', sanctioned by fame to pack heat wherever the f*ck he wants to. Earth to Dennis!!!!

If you forget where your guns are, you shouldn't have them.

Again what 's with a celeb flying on a commercial airline anyway? Seems to me he WANTED to get caught for the publicity (good or bad). He's at that income level where he could have chartered a private jet or had fractional ownership of one, then he could go to the SW side of the airport avoid the paparazzi and the embarassment of this incident and take off from the private terminal at the SW side of the airport or could have used Van Nuys Airport for this-that's all for private aircraft.

I remember some years ago reading of a minor 'Hollywood celebrity' dying when his mobile home caught on fire. I also recall shortly after Hilary Swank won her Oscar for 'Boys don't Cry' her neighborhood pharmacy refused to fill a medical prescription because she hadn't earned enough that year to afford health insurance. Being in the movies doesn't necessarily mean you're rich.

Uh...you must NEVER fly. There's always a few celebrities on board whenever I've flown. Last trip I was on board with Luke Wilson and his sexier younger bro.

You mean you can't bring a loaded gun onto an airplane? I hadn't heard....

For such a gangster...a .22 cal??? If he was going to make a mistake...make a mistake with a .44 at least he could parlay it into more work...its difficult to take someone seriously who carries about a .22 cal pistol...satire everybody...satire

....ever been shot with a .22?.....they will kill you just as dead as a .44 or a .357.........you just have to be closer to the target with a small caliber handgun.........a gun...is a gun.... is a gun.......in the hands of idiots ALL guns are dangerous.........

......anyone who wants to own a gun (legally) should have to go to school for instruction and be issued a permit..........sound like gun control?...........more like IDIOT control.....this way, at least SOME of the crazies could be weeded out.......

First of all, I've been a fan of Dennis Farina since Crime Story.

That being said, if you think you're going to be some kind of bad-ass gunfighter shouldn't you at least know where your freakin' gun is?

Idiot. If it were you or me, we'd get booked and go to jail with little hope of getting out.

There are signs at the airport: GUNS NOT ALLOWED! Duh.

If you had a loaded gun in your bag, wouldn't you think about it when going to the one place that you cannot take it?

I like him but is this a case of real life imitating movie persona?
Really Dennis, behave.

I prefer him in comedies. When he does serious acting, he is too over the top for me. Too much like a rogue cop.

Anyone remember his movie "Big Trouble?" Same thing happened there but Janeane Garafallo let his hit man character go. Life imitates art.

Suppose Farina got that loaded gun onto the plane in his carry-on luggage. The plane gets highjacked, but because he forgot he had a loaded gun, he does nothing about it.
