Dennis Farina Arrested At LAX With Loaded Gun

LOS ANGELES — Actor Dennis Farina was charged with a felony Sunday at Los Angeles International Airport after a loaded gun was found in his carry-on luggage.

When the weapon was discovered at a security checkpoint, the 64-year-old actor said he had forgotten the .22-caliber handgun was in his luggage, police said.

Farina was booked for investigation of carrying a concealed weapon, said Sgt. Dennis Beacham. Bail was set at $25,000 before police discovered the weapon was not registered. Charges were upgraded to a felony, and he is now being held in lieu of $35,000 bail.

Farina's latest film, the Ashton Kutcher-Cameron Diaz comedy "What Happens in Vegas," opened Friday.

Farina has starred in TV's "Law & Order" series and in such movies as "Snatch" and "Get Shorty." The actor is also a former Chicago police officer.

Calls to Farina's lawyer and agent were not returned Sunday.

Dear Mr Farina: I love you but what the hell were you thinking? You were a cop so I understand how you might get attached to firearms. But travelling by air in the post 9/11 reality of heavy security with a gun? Not good. Best wishes.

Used to be cop, should have known better.

I like Farina. He started out on Michael Mann's "Thief" with Jimmy Cann. Did "Crime Story" with Mann in the mid-80's, and he's played some believable bad guys in movies like DeNiro's "Midnight Run." Ignore his turn opposite Bette Midler, though: Bad choice. Very bad choice.

Hope things work out for Dennis.

Next time he shoud carry a Colt .45 1911 gold cup auto, because I'll tell you, when you got one on your belt, it pulls downs your pants and you know that you are packing heat with ever step instead of those sissy .22 cal. Lesson learn, he will get off unless he has some type of felony in his past. A wink here and a look her. He'll get 3 month probation with 40 hours of community service and possibly gun safety course.
