Hillary Motivation

Politico:

There's a motivational shift afoot in Hillary nation.

The legions of Hillary Rodham Clinton backers still investing their cash, energy and emotion into her faltering bid for the Democratic presidential nomination seem driven not by the reasonable expectation that she can beat Barack Obama, but by the emotional desire to see her through to the end of voting and stick it to those who have already written her off.

Clinton's campaign is fanning the flames of that backlash -- against the media, against superdelegates who recently backed Obama and against Obama himself. Aides hope to convert the sentiments into protest votes that could deliver landslide victories in West Virginia and Kentucky, Clinton strongholds that are among the next three states to cast ballots.

No matter how big Clinton wins in West Virginia, which votes Tuesday, or Kentucky, which heads to the polls May 20 along with Oregon -- a likely Obama win -- she won't significantly cut into Obama's lead in pledged delegates or popular votes.

The nomination was Senator Clinton's to lose and somehow she managed to lose it. This doesn't speak too well to her leadership or planning abilities.

I think she's gonna finally drop out Tuesday night. She wants to go out looking good instead of having to endure the coming humiliation of Obama's victory rally once he wins Oregon and reaches the 1627 milestone (majority of pledged delegates). WV is gonna be her swan song. Both campaigns have probably addressed to each other, and that's probably why Obama isn't campaigning there. It's a mercy win.

I've been cautiously hopeful about this also. Heres hoping she will withdraw after a big, face saving win. With luck, it could all be over by noon on Wednesday.

It's amazing how Americans so often vote on emotion and against their own best interests. Look at George Bush and how he got into office. People voted for a man who they felt they could comfortably share a beer with. How ridiculous. These are the same "hard working, white blue collar" voters to whom Sen. Clinton referred last week. These are the same people who have given George W. Bush the lowest approval rating in US history.

For those of you who'd rather see McCain in office because you don't like Obama, please reconsider. As much as I dislike Hillary Clinton and the ways in which she conducted her campaign, if she somehow "stole" the nomination from Obama, I'd still cast my vote for her in November, period. This is a simple concept which is lost on many Clinton supporters.

Now ain't that the truth. I'm sure right now Hillary's supporters are angry and will say anything to hurt someone because they are hurting. This cannot be a thrill for Hillary either. I feel for her because she seems to want this so desperately. Hopefully, once Obama was won (officially), we will have enough time to calm down and think more rationally. I hope!

i am with you my fellow democrat.

about Bush and how he got in to office based on "who they felt they could comfortably share a beer with": the funny part is that most people seem to completely disregard the fact that George is in AA.

It's actually okay for Senator Clinton to stay in the race until Oregon. If she were to drop out now, she'd still beat Barack in Kentucky and West Virginia and that wouldn't look good. Her staying in won't do much harm to Senator Obama because everyone knows he's now the nominee. None of her or her minions' braying can change this and some of them are coming off as batshit crazy, which doesn't help her case.

HRC is going all the way through the primaries and maybe even to the convention. Her by Terry said so with Chris Wallace today....he says they're close if you include MI and FL

MR. RUSSERT: But Obama's name wasn't on the ballot in Michigan.

MR. McAULIFFE: And that was a political decision he made to pull his name off the ballot.

MR. RUSSERT: All right.

I can see voters in West Virginia and Kentucky, after decades of being irrelevant suddenly seeing their relevance disappear only weeks before in North Carolina and say 'no way, we're going to show you that we are still relevant!'

But what is Clinton's motivation? Remember that this is costing her millions at at time when she is already in the hole. It sure isn't to redeem her reputation or butter anybody up for a VP or cabinet position.

It only makes sense as part of the long-rumored tactic of setting up Obama for a loss so she can run in 2012.

"Stick it to the Naysayer" - this is a NEW strategy? I don't think so. You're with us or you're against us has what I've been hearing for months now from the Clintons. Not exactly the way to coalition build. The Clintons made their own bed, now let them lie in it. Now they're trying to rearrange the internal organs of the Democratic Party in their own image. Lots of meaningless guts and no heart.

Her candidacy is mentally exhausting me. I can't believe there was a time when I actually didn't mind her all that much. You know, when Dems had no hope and she was inevitable.

Please. Go away. Just go away.

I'm beginning to think it's useless to debate with people like Ginnypoo. Maybe this person IS a 13 year old because I can honestly say that I don't know ANY adults this petty and childish. To think that people had to give their lives to vote and that there may be people stupid enough to decide a vote based on bloggers-people they've never even met!

It's a moot point. HRC will win W.Va and Kentucky but so what? It won't change anything for her. We all know prejudiced people will pick her.

Ginnypoo, dear...you are obviously not a true Dem or you would NEVER choose McCain over Obama. You obviously have no heart for our soldiers that are giving their LIVES for a war of greed. You obviously could care less that everyday people are NOT going to be able to make it under the rule of a man who thinks the economy is doing fine.

And one last note-you OBVIOUSLY are BITTER as you would vote against your own best interests! If you vote for McCain, you just proved Obama 100% correct sweetie!

But some of them are, from places like Taylor Marsh. Dont forget their "campaign" to harangue and threaten the supers was an article here all weekend, stands to reason they would come over to see what we all thought of their brilliant idea.

I know we all -like- to think that no real democrat would behave like them, but i don;t think it is all repubs in disguise over at Taylor Marsh.

Obama is a weak, risky candidate with no legislative accomplishments, doesn't even show
up for his job in the Senate, missed 38% of senate votes, etc., etc.... It doesn't make any sense to vote for Obama. If democrats are stupid enough to fall for Obama, then its time to switch parties.

While I'm at it, as a state senator, Barack was instrumental in passing legislation requiring police videotaping confessions. He was instrumental in passing campaign finance reform and he was instrumental in implementing "Kids Care."

Need more? How about googling Obama and legislation. You know how to do that, don't you?
