Last night's all new "Saturday Night Live" was hosted by actor Shia Labeouf. The show opened with Amy Poehler as Hillary Clinton giving a message to America.

Poehler's Clinton says how the race is "hopelessly deadlocked" and she gives reasons why she will make the better president. Reason one? "I am a sore loser... I will probably refuse to campaign for him." Second: "My supporters are racist." It goes from there.

That was funny? No, it was banal, crude and smarmy. I'm not a Clinton supporter by any measure, but that kind of crap is just plain offensive -- and it was amazingly badly written. There are a lot of ways to go after the Clintons and their narcissistic antics through humor, but one does have to be funny when doing it. This was just stupid.

Actually, usually SNL nowadays is all of those things, but this sketch was well-written, punchy and to the point. It was really very good. I think you're way off on this one.

It doesn't hurt that the studio audience laughed (rather than gasped and/or booed).

People are mad at Clinton because she has pandered by having a phoney gas tax break in Iowa, used fear politics with her 9/11 ad in Pennsylvania, lied about NAFTA in Ohio, lied about Bonsia multiple times, planted questioners in the audience in Iowa . . . all of this against a candidate who has been very positive throughout the campaign. She deserves the blowback as she as brought it upon herself.

This is the same type of observations, and commentary SNL have been doing for years, and years. SNL is known for watching the political goings on as outsiders, like you and I do, and relaying back to the t.v. audience, what it is they, have observed.

I don't see that anything SNL has said is contrary to what pundits, and newspaper editors, have been saying all last week. Even politicians, some of them Hillary supporters, have been saying that Hillary's racial based comments are inappropriate, and divisive. So if comedians on t.v want to reflect what they, why are they wrong?!
People have eyes, and way before Saturday Night, people have been observing what Hillary Clinton and her husband have been up to, the way they have behaved. And people see that the Clintons are going out of their way to try to split the democratic party down colorline.
It is shocking for people to see that instead of promoting racial unity for the sake of the country, and to a lesser degree the democartic party, the Clintons are reveling in the fact that racial bias still exists in this country, and among SOME democrats, and the Clintons seem to have made the conscious decision to try to use those negative feelings to their advantage.
Rather than being appalled that these racial biases still exist, the Clintons seem to be happy they do, happy to exploit them to get what they want, which is the nomination.

That was spot on, and like all great satire, was effective because of the truth involved.

She's obviously not a good loser, or she would have gone away by now. Many of her supporters are racist or she wouldn't have used the phrase "white folks" more often in the past week than David Duke did in an entire campaign. She wouldn't be so bold as to 'clarify" that when she says, "white folks", you know, she means the "hard-working Americans".

She wouldn't have run the first half of her campaign blatantly stating Obama can't draw Latino votes, while noting he now can't win white votes.

Somehow just African-Americans, formerly thought to be a minority, defeated the greatest Democratic political machine with the best name recognition in the past 50 years.

This small minority, won more contests, more delegates, more superdelegates, and more popular votes, raised 7X as much money, in spite of not be able to get Latino or white votes.

Who knew?

As for "no ethics", jeez, I wonder how they ever came up with that one? Lost legal papers, ducking sniper fire, being for the Nevada caucuses before she was agin 'em, being for the rules re:Michigan and Florida before she was agin 'em. Her husband says he "has seen the memo" calling for Obama to "play the race card", and when he is called on it by a young NBC reporter, he lies he ever said it and impugns the young fellow's integrity. SNL rules.

And now, just released today for your viewing and listening pleasure, Hillary is now proud to present "Te Mother Card". That's right, just in time for this most glorious of day, it has been announced that what Washington needs is a mother in the Oval Office. Now, it might be just me, but I though that we have already had a few "mothers" in there now?

I think you might have meant to say that African-Americans and caucasians and people of all other colors defeated the more famous Clintons and their machine. No matter how hard some people try to define it as such, this campaign is not about ethnicity....it is about old politics vs new.

How would any delegate super or otherwise even consider Hillary Rodham Clinton having ANY popular votes. I'm sure not one of them hasn't heard seen or felt deep in their heart and well as the pulse of this nation that SHE is a train wreak. It's about time they stopped pandering to her. We all know that if the tables were turned and Hillary had Obama's advantage, Bill Clinton would be in every court in the land demanding they end this because Obama didn't have a chance. Sure she'll hand on by a tread, promote racism, show her elitism and get emotional, it helps her get her way.

It made me physically sick to see Hillary sitting in the sun room of her 5 million dollar house and telling the average american worker, that she identified with them. I don't have a home like that ,
109 million kick back, or stolen dollars, or even allowed to walk through Chappaqua.

I think SNL is way out of its depth - and has been for quite a while. I'm big on Obama - he's our next president - but though there may be a good ammount of truth to this latest Hillary routine - I just don't find it very funny. The SNL take on Hillary and Obama has been, for the most part, pretty lame. They made fools of themselves shilling for Clinton and now, once she's revealed her true colors, they're trying to make up. Still, the stuff is just not laugh inducing. They are going for laughs, aren't they?

The Clintons probably wouldn't be in Chappaqua either if Macauliffe hadn't guaranteed their mortgage and got them a more favorable interest rate than that available to the rest of us. And almost immediately thereafter, he, coincidentally---as far as WE know--was named party chair.

MadTV is better, plus Amy's Hillary impression sucks, sounds nothing like her. Atleast the "honeyface" impression sounds somewhat like Obama. The best Obama impersonator is the one used on Jay Leno when he has the fake debates.

SNL is like gas, in the tank! (for the clintons)

It seems like they're aiming younger these days.

The cast is fantastic but there's usually only two good sketches in the whole show.

Sad. Maybe Lorne needs to move on?

SNL SITT For The Clintons

They have always been and remain "in the tank" for The Clintons with the "Bitch is Back" or "Bitch is the new Black" crowd (still don't know what that meant); and that one right wing REP writer who wrote the ultra-demeaning, Obama-as-buffoon President skit which was the single most racist and one-side portrayal I have ever seen in its sheer absurdity.

Though that skit did accurately lampoon Hillary's can-do, solutions-oriented, self-declared mantra; it played off a completely inept, shuffling, airhead Obama with no ideas or solutions of his own which is not based on anything actually observed in this campaign or Obama's career.

Now they are just covering their ass since all is lost. They leveraged every ounce that platform to throw Obama under the bus; it just didn't work and they began their long road back to balancing out their audience again.

but you're also talking about a program that did a parody of cyrano de bergerac featuring a black man with the excessively large nose, speaking stereoptypical jive talk to the object of his affections.

tacky, crass and utterly insulting.

SNL has been dog spit since the end of the Not Ready for PrimeTime Players era -- Steve Martin, Bill Murray, GILDA RADNER, Eddie Murphy, et al.

BUT i really dug this sketch.

Who was the candidate that referenced SNL during a national televised debate? That's right it was Hillary, I'm sure as a fighter she can laugh at herself, we do. This was the funniest opening skit of the year, at least I think so I don't really watch the show, that won't change.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:11 AM on 05/12/2008

SNL is empirically not funny. they should hand the show entirely over to Andy Samberg and be done with it - otherwise it's just an aimlessly wandering zombie corpse of a live comedy show.

Furthermore I have another question:

For any job application in the US, one cannot ask the applicant his/her race or religion.
However for the most important job in the US ie President, race and religion are top factors to be openly disucssed.

Why such a double standard?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:39 AM on 05/12/2008

I can think of two reasons:

1. Religion is the Opium of the masses.

2. Racism is alive and well because it serves a prupose. As long as they are fighting amongst themselves they're not fighting against us.

Regarding racial profiling, can you give this Canadian, some enlightment?

If you are American: you are assumed White
If you are African American: you are assumed Black
If you are 50% black, 50% white: you are assumed Black
if you are 25% black, 75% white: you are assumed Black
If you are 25% black, 25% white, 25% Hispanic, 25% Asian: ???? what do you call this American?

Should we stop altogether racial profiling? America is supposed to be a "melting pot", isn't it?

To my understanding, I may be wrong, but if you are 25% black and anything else, regardless of how many elses, you're black. Especially if your skin is dark. Tiger Woods may have killed this stererotype altogether. I don't believe it's right to not acknowledge someones full heritage but that's the way some people see it.

Because it's all based on 'white purity', with any degree of blackness viewed as 'tainted'. Indeed, many so called 'whites' in America have many black ancestors.

This is vicious and not one bit funny. SNL was criticized for skits on earlier shows that poked fun at the media fawning over Obama, and they are now trying to demonstrate their support for him with increasingly venomous "jokes" about Clinton.

People might be putting too much stock on a comedy sketch but then again there was that debate sketch that seemed to play a role in shaping the media narrative a couple of weeks ago.

This sketch seems pretty disturbing to be funny. Also, it might have some unintended or unforseen consequences. The majority of Hillary's supporters voted for her because of many reasons that has nothing to do with race. Portraying them as racists in the media in a time when the primary is winding down and Obama needs to appeal to Hillary supporters is just bad timing and very damaging. I don't mind when they poke fun at her but leave the voters out of this.

Your comments are a little myopic....hillary is the one who labelled her supporters as white and uneducated and unwilling to vote for Obama (hint, hint) becasue he is black. She invites this level of satire and scrutiny....time and time again..and her supporters fail to realize or acknowledge this and cry about it when she gets as good as she is giving.

I was not anti-hillary or antiClintons; I voted for BC and was generally satisfied with his Presidency...I have done a full about face from these two. THey are disgusting in their manipulaitve and unethical tactics...we can alll write it off as politics as usual but clearly that isn't winning her any votes now is it?quite the opposite.

Hillary Clinton has clearly gone as crazy as Brittney Spears was a few months ago...I mean think about it... Hillary shows her a$$ every time she doesn't get her own way, she has surronded herself with people who will not tell her she is harming herself and her carreer... and then there was the escapade of her crying for the camera... I think she will start showing crotch shots when getting out of limos if it will get attention.
Maybe Brittney's dad could go to court and be given power of atorney over Hillary. He sure has done a good job with Brittney... we hardly see her at all any more, and when we do, she looks normal, no showing her privates, no sitting and crying in front of the camera, and all the bad people and yes men who were her enablers are gone..
Jamie Spears, the answer to the Democratic Party's prayers????
