The Washington Post reports on another grim news event for Hillary Clinton: confirmation that her campaign is $20 million in debt.

With her campaign falling ever deeper into debt, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton spent a rainy Mother's Day seeking votes ahead of Tuesday's primary here, turning a deaf ear to calls for her to leave a Democratic presidential contest she has little hope of winning.

Clinton aides continued to insist that she will remain in the race even while confirming that she is $20 million in debt. "The voters are going to decide this," senior adviser Howard Wolfson said on "Fox News Sunday," acknowledging the $20 million figure. "There is no reason for her not to continue this process." Wolfson said he has seen "no evidence of her interest" in pursuing the second-place spot on the Democratic ticket, contrary to rumors that she is staying in the race to leverage a bid for the vice presidential nomination.

Campaign Chair Terry McAuliffe suggested
Clinton might lend her campaign more money:

Terry McAuliffe, the Clinton campaign chairman, told Tim Russert on "Meet the Press" that he spoke to Clinton about the possibility of contributing more money and "she said that she would be willing to do it." However, McAuliffe insists, "We haven't needed it."

im not going to jump to judgement on if mr. obama will pay her debts, i will wait and see and hope he doesnt. it was her risk from the beginning. might i make a suggestion to the obama team though??

if it comes down to it, have all online doners log in and vote yes or no to paying off hillary. it is our campaign, as mr. obama has said. if the majority of us agree to it, then i am willing to live with that. i, for one will vote no. she made her bed, and now she will have to lie in it (a prospect that seems opaque to baby boomers).

but i joined a group of people and if the majority of us are willing to live with that prospect, i will repsect it.

The Obama campaign can't directly pay off her debt, but he could encourage others to help her out. Which she would then say was record setting donations showing the American public wants her to win...LMAO. I say let her sink.

For eight long years we have had a delusional president who ran the country and ran a war not on reality, or careful analysis of the actual facts, but on "faith". He was 100% wrong. Hillary can't win. And she is starting to look more and more like a delusional ex-president we all love and despise.

If she has no chance of winning, why does she keep spending vast amounts of her own money? She is spending it on going forward too. The only way for her to win is for Barack to be rendered unelectable. Do the Clinton's plan to do something to render Barack unelectable, otherwise why are they going forward?

I am I the only person in America who finds it weird that she is still around and spending millions of her own money just to stay afloat, when her only chance of winning hinges on the total destruction of another human being or possibly their demise? That is of course unless she is working to strait up steal the election. Is Clinton working to have a riot in Denver?

It's because neither she nor Bill can quit their addiction to power. If only she was spending her own money. Right now she's in deep debt and wants the Obama campaign to bail her out. Now that's weird. She wants to keep running for no good reason and HE is supposed to finance it. That's the Clintons for you. Total narcissists. Don't care about anything other than their lust for power.

1. She has no chance of winning. 2. She is not spending 'her own money' she is 'lending' it to her campaign. The dumb suckers who support her will have to pay it back. 3. She is a power hungry b* ... er ah person. She will stop at nothing to grab the power of the presidency. She is a shallow person. A 'streetfighter' who will use every dirty political trick to gain her own ends. She is the exact opposite of what the statesman Obama is.

There isn't exactly a floodgate of cash rolling into their campaign. They are spending their own money to survive right now. I think most people are well aware of the Clinton desire for power, but there is no one that can tell me it has blinded them enough to rip through such a significant amount of money just to survive when they could have just as easily called it quits.

This is not a battle of their moral, and ethical compass. We know she is "willing" to do whatever it takes to win, but this issue with the money says she is waiting for that thing to happen. Buying time. What is she doing that makes her 11.6 million dollars sure? I would love for people to think about this for a second. Also, consider how many times she mentioned that pledged delegates can vote as they like at the convention. Why did she say that? Why is counting MI and FL at their unrealistic vote tallies so important to her? Why is she making such a big deal about it? It's not becasue she cares deeply about the people.

All indication says she is buying time to sink Obama. How is she going to do that?

Sorry, I beg to differ. To Hillary, and Bush and all her mentors, stealing an election, no matter how, IS winning. And in practical terms, it is, because in this country no one is ever held accountable. Look at the trillions stolen on Dov Zakheim's watch, the trillions stolen in Iraq, and all we, the suckers, can do is complain. There are too many powerful dark forces of corruption at play. We are just as corrupt as Zimbabwe. The big loophole in any democracy is corruption, and I'm told it only takes 200 years for it to fall apart. About on time.

Hillary's Oregon ad only reminded voters that she voted for the Iraq war.
Her millions of supporters in this close race for the nomination should open their wallets and fund her campaign. It's not too much to ask from totally committed people backing a candidate who is sure to win.

So Hill plays the race card and her supporters want Obama to pay of her debt plus offer her the Vice President slot. Man this is Alice in Wonderland.

LOL, sure seems very ALICE like,,,a bit of OZ thrown in as well with the curtain drawn back and exposing the Clintons more and more !!! DId get a giggle when one of their Hollywood sorts threatened Polisi and she cut them off at the knees !!! Strange brew of supporters remaining seemingly so loyal to the C's---have to be quite narcissitately inclined themselves and think THEY TOO rule over the masses of ignorant fools in the "audience" ~~~ The Clintons perping that the DNC or Obama camp should FOOT their outrageous C-campaign would be SOUNDLY rejected and that too seems but another ploy to destroy Obama's fund raising ability !! Then comes the snark that was the WIFE who kaboshed the thought of Hillary/bill as running VP mate....GET A REALITY CHECK and yeah, no doubt the O's are close and mentor each other, Michele has NOT THE POWER to so determine WHO will come on board as VP mate !!!That too was a SLAM against Mrs. O , meant to stir up harsh regards and REPULSIVE and SNIDE and CONTEMPTUOUS but nothing less is expectable from the Clintons , especially these days !!!

Instead of donating to ANY national Democratic committee, whose funds will be used to pay off Billary's unnecessary debt, I urge everyone to donate DIRECTLY to the those running for Rep and Sen seats.

Question to the Obama supporters: if and when he loses to McCain, are you going to come back and blame Clinton for his loss? Let's assume she's not the VP and, therefore, out of the picture

Answer: Why would we blame Clinton? Because she "split" the party?

At least Barack has a party. Your's is decimated. On the brink of collapse.

It was big news one day during the Republican primaries when John McCain garnered "thousands" of dollars in donations. Anybody even remotely entertaining the fantasy of a win for the elephant this fall is certifiable.

The real question you should be asking yourself after the last eight years is....WHAT THE HELL WAS I THINKING?????????? Your heroes the Failure Monkeys have managed to screw up every conceivable sector of our society in previously unimaginable ways. People aren't going to vote for a Republican for quite a while you can rest assured. And indeed why would they want to?

The campaign could have saved some money by not running an ad in Oregon with Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame. Joe Wilson went to Niger in order to challenge the phony intelligence used to promote the Iraq war-- intelligence which Senator Clinton didn't bother to read before voting to authorize military action. Now Joe Wilson is showing more loyalty to the Clintons than to the sort of principles which he and his wife stood for when the Bush administration betrayed them and their country.

With $20 million debt, we now see the pathology behind addiction, be it sex, drugs, gambling, etc. It's what drives Bill Clinton to engage in extramarital affairs, and how Hillary is as actively dysfunctional as he is. Both the Clintons are (like George W. Bush) "dry drunks", in that they've never been treated for the demons that drive them to commit risky behavior and/or put up with it in the other.

A Hillary Clinton presidency really would be more like a third Bush term than we'd care to admit.

I'd like to help Hillary out of this jam, so I am going over to her website to donate $ .01. It will show her how much I love her. Gee, I sure hope her credit card processing fee won't consume all of this generous donation.

;-)

no, please!

her campaign will claim the sudden deluge of "millions of new supporters and contributors", and even though the money raised won't be enough to buy her a new pantsuit, she'll use that line to push through another couple weeks.

and maybe she'll even claim to have received donations from "former" obama supporters.

please, please don't.

Hillary voted for the war. Not because she likes war or wants war, but because she wanted to position herself as a "tough" politician that could handle the top job. Had she remained truthful to herself, she might have persevered. Then it came time to apologize for choosing unwisely, and she didn't do that either--thinking that the right wing would chastise he for flip-flopping. That's when she lost me.

I would love to have a woman President of the US. Just not this woman.

It all goes to show that the best way is to be truthful to yourself, take your best shot, and let the chips fall where they may. If you lie, steal and fake your way into it--you might end up like Bush.

I'm trying to figure out why Hillary would "loan" to her campaign, as opposed to an outright gift to her own campaign -- my goodness.

Because she can use it as a write-off deduction on her next year's Schedule C tax return as "an unrecoverable debt".

The woman is always thinking money.

She wants to be president but not enough to do it on her own money, only other people's. The easiest way to resolve this entire pain in the butt campaign drama, is for the Obama forces to say, "Stay in the race all you want Hillary, but we aren't going to assume any debt of yours incurred beyond May 6 [date of IN and NC primaries]." She'll fold her tent within 96 hours and sit out till the convention sticking pins into her barack voodoo doll and thinking of unobtrusive ways to weaken him.
NO GREENMAIL FOR HILLARY!!

You know, in boxing they sometimes have to take the fighting license away from a boxer who has been beaten, and beaten, and beaten, and no longer has the ability to defend himself in the ring. That is where Hillary is now, her campaign is debt, she's losing in delegates, super delegates, popular vote, states won, and fund raising. The DNC is going to have to take her "license" away for her own good.
