The Washington Post reports on another grim news event for Hillary Clinton: confirmation that her campaign is $20 million in debt.

With her campaign falling ever deeper into debt, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton spent a rainy Mother's Day seeking votes ahead of Tuesday's primary here, turning a deaf ear to calls for her to leave a Democratic presidential contest she has little hope of winning.

Clinton aides continued to insist that she will remain in the race even while confirming that she is $20 million in debt. "The voters are going to decide this," senior adviser Howard Wolfson said on "Fox News Sunday," acknowledging the $20 million figure. "There is no reason for her not to continue this process." Wolfson said he has seen "no evidence of her interest" in pursuing the second-place spot on the Democratic ticket, contrary to rumors that she is staying in the race to leverage a bid for the vice presidential nomination.

Campaign Chair Terry McAuliffe suggested
Clinton might lend her campaign more money:

Terry McAuliffe, the Clinton campaign chairman, told Tim Russert on "Meet the Press" that he spoke to Clinton about the possibility of contributing more money and "she said that she would be willing to do it." However, McAuliffe insists, "We haven't needed it."

wrong. the first woman to have her name placed in nomination was margaret chase smith. she was a republican senator from maine and her name was placed in nomination at the republican convention. those were the good old days when things happened at the conventions, not starting 18 months before and hundreds of millions of dollars later.

All of you are too late. The first woman to SERVE as president was Edith Wilson who, as Woodrow's caretaker after his stroke, essentially guided the government when the VP wouldn't. It wasn't official or a whole term, but it is pretty well documented as her running the show.

Wow with Hilary as president what would the USA's budget deficit run up to ?

1 trillion ?

Clearly this has gone far beyond Hillary being a fighter. This has become an irrational obsession on her (and Bill's) part.

Compulsive personalities indeed. They could put that energy into something else and do a lot of good - and I hope they do. This compulsive campaigning is leading nowhere.

I just hope Obama does not get suckered into paying for this. The Clintons are plenty rich and if they want to keep betting money on a dead horse, its their money. Condsidering the Clinton's outrageous behavior since she started losing, it would be great if they ended up losing even a lot more of their money on this. Serves them right.

I can't imagine the stupidity of people who still believe a word this guy says. I just hope that none of my money ends up being used to pay off her debts.

Clinton Deadline Looms for Recouping $11 Million Personal Loan
Jonathan D. Salant and Timothy J. Burger
Mon May 12, 12:01 AM ET

May 12 (Bloomberg) -- Hillary Clinton may have a financial incentive to remain in the presidential race for a while. And she has Senator John McCain to thank for it.

Clinton loaned her struggling campaign $11 million in recent months. A little-known provision of a 2002 campaign- finance law cosponsored by McCain prevents candidates who drop out of the race from raising money after the nominating conventions to repay themselves for personal loans.

Should Clinton fail to come up with the funds by the Democratic convention in August, she'll be out the $11 million. If she quits the campaign before then, she may find it hard to get people to keep giving cash just so she can retire her debt.

Now we know why she is staying in the race...

Can she suspend her campaign as Edwards did and still recoup the loss? Just wondering.

Probably can. Would explain why Romney suspended his campaign as well.

It appears from the information below that the convention is the cutoff date, regardless of when a candidate drops out of the race. Maybe that's because that candidate could conceivably become the nominee at the convention.

=====

After an election is over, any campaign contributions that go toward repaying the candidate's own loans serve, in practice, as money directly into a politician's pocket. As a result, campaign law now limits to $250,000 the amount a campaign committee can repay the candidate after the election. In the case of the Democratic primary, the election will end when a nominee is selected in Denver.

Obama has agreed to pay Hillary $1 million for every pound she loses between now and election day.

LOL! What's she got under that coat anyway? Last time I saw a coat that big, someone animated the white house silver into it. I bet if she wore that into an HEB, a checker would follow her around to make sure she wasn't up to some animal house tricks.

A. Because he is a Muslim
B. Because he hates the USA
C. Because he hates white people
D. Because in this great country of ours even stupid people get a vote.

The Clinton's have plenty of money. If she wants to spend recklessly on a lost cause, she shouldn’t expect Obama to bail her out. Hillary is the richest candidate. Obama’s donors shouldn’t have to pay for her stubbornness.

OK, get this through your head. IT IS ILLEGAL FOR OBAMA TO USE ANY OF HIS CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTIONS TO BAIL OUT HILLARY. Ain't gonna happen.
