Obama Superdelegates

Indiana Rep. Joe Donnelly endorsed Obama this morning, moving Barack's gap to the nomination 149 delegates. The press release is below.

UPDATE: New Orlean Mayor Ray Nagin, another superdelegate, has also endorsed Obama (statement below). Also, the Washington Post reports that one of Clinton's pledged delegates from Maryland has announced that he will support Obama at the convention.

UPDATE: Former DNC Chair (and Colorado governor) Roy Romer makes three.

UPDATE: Anita Bonds, the chairwoman of D.C.'s Democratic party came out, rather unexpectedly, for Obama late last night.

CHICAGO, IL -- Today, Indiana Congressman Joe Donnelly endorsed Barack Obama for President, citing his commitment to working families and building a real coalition for change:

"Today, I am pleased to announce my support for Barack Obama. At a time when too many Americans have lost faith in their government, Senator Obama can move us beyond the politics of stalemate and gridlock that has kept us from meeting the monumental challenges of our time: our dependence on foreign oil, a health care gap that leaves tens of millions uninsured, the steady deterioration of our manufacturing base, and an economy that is not working for working people.

The Democratic Party's strength comes from its core commitment to the American Dream and from a coalition that is ideologically, economically, geographically and ethnically diverse. Barack Obama will stand with working families while building that coalition so that we can change this country, and that's why he's the best choice for America."

Barack Obama said, "I am honored to have the support of Congressman Joe Donnelly. Joe has brought an independent, principled, and pragmatic voice to Washington that is more focused on getting results for Hoosier families than scoring political points. As President, I look forward to working with Congressman Donnelly to build bipartisan majorities to create jobs, make health care more affordable and accessible, and to give our veterans the care and support that they have earned."
Donnelly is the 282nd superdelegate to endorse Barack Obama, who is 149 delegates away from securing the Democratic nomination.

Isn't muslin a type of sheet? You know, the kind you and your ilk wear over your head?

And change your nic, you're no patriot. I'll bet you haven't even served in the military. All you have done is be poisoned by your parents and be a useless eater who takes up space. You're not an American, you just live here.

As if you would ever vote for a Democrat. You evidently lack the mental capacity to do so in any event.

Since last Tuesday Obama has picked up 27+ superdelgates. In WVA she gets 28. Seems like a wash to me.

She doesn't get 28. Even if she wins the state and each district 70-30, he still gets 9 of them.

Although, Hillary gave her consent on the switching of pledged delegates-trying to get them to her side, I say Obama take the delegate. What needs to be done is for this delegate to come out and express WHY he switched. If it is for the reasons that I have against the Clinton campaign-the lying, cheating, trying to change the rules, pandering to the misinformed and rallying racist voters-many people will agree with that delegate. The way the Clintons are conducting this campaign is not becoming of Democratic party.

Oh the gig is up. New poll shows that 73% of HRC supporters would like to see VP ticket. That means that he only has to pick-up 27% without her.

In other words, 73% would vote for Obama, they will vote for Democrat no matter what. The other 27% are the ones that need coaching.

unfortunately the 27% you speak of are women, older women to be sure. I am not one of them. But, being "older" I have heard alot of women say, "without Hillary women will never gain in this world" Sad but true..it is what some believe. I am glad I saw the light at the beginning..Obama is a fair man..also raising 2 daughters..that says alot!!!!

Get over this Hillary as VP because it will never happen. Obama would be crazy (which he isn't) to have anything to do with the Clinton's. Between Bill and Hill they would try and upstage everything he tried to do. The media is misleading viewers with their constant talk that this might happen.

Please see my addendum. My point is the 73% would vote for Obama. They are not the died enders. 27% are Dead enders.

Obama cannot select Hillary as VP. How is she going to explain everything she has said about him. No experience! She distributed the picture of Obama in muslim garb! Her comment on the Rev. Wright issue! Her comments on the Ayers issue! His policies! The republicans will kill Obama with her comments.

It's "jig". "The jig is up".

Next, your numbers are off, and it's an unknowable at this point. He may not get that 27%, but he will get some Republicans and independents. He may not even need that 27% or any Republicans or Independents because the number of registered Democrats far exceeds the number of registered Republicans.

Those are problems for the professional Democrats, and not for the voters. Voters have one job when decided which candidate they want, and that's deciding which candidate they prefer. Not the candidate who they think might win over the other parties' candidates. That's my biggest resentment about the MSM. The MSM abdicated their role of reporting issues, because they're all frustrated sports announcers and Mary Harts.

It seems pretty apparent the superdelegates, like the most of us, are pretty saddened by the spectacle that HRC has made of the her campaign. We also think its very clear that the way one runs a campaign is highly likely to foreshadow how they would run their Presidential Administration.

Today in our own article, we likened Hillary to Wile E. Coyote

Get off your butts for 5 minutes or less....

If your Governor is Democrat;
If your Senator is Democrat;
If your Rep. in Congress is Democrat;

Send them an email NOW...call their offices NOW....

Tell them (nicely) that as a constituent, you urge them to come out and endorse Obama TODAY !!!

We can make this happen in less than 3 weeks...This is only Tuesday; if WE THE PEOPLE take some action, we can have this wrapped up by the end of this week !!!!!

Let's get busy, hey ???

My prediction: there will be a number of super delegates coming foreward to support him tonight or tomorrow to negate some of the Clinton win in West Virginia. I think the Obama camp knows they have enough to put them over the top and thy're timing it to keep a positive stream of good news.

Yeah you're right. This drip, drip, drip of superdelegates was predicted months ago. May 20 is the time to cut her off at the pass, that is, prevent her from going before the rules committee on May 31 to try to change the goal posts yet one more time.

I predict: A big win for HRC in WV, then she will drop out as soon as tomorrow morning, but will will try and get the Vice Presidency holding the (as she calls them) "blue-collar white voters" hostage.
Because he's held such a "nice" campaign, he may take her on as his running mate in the name of UNITY...

It would be great to think Hillary would go out on a high note....she will win WV by a sizeable margin...BUT...that's hoping for too much, I believe !!!

She's going to take this to the end of the primaries, at least. Her win in WV, and KY will show her as "electable"...even though she mathmatically has no chance.

She's not a "quitter"...I'll give her THAT !!! (and that's ALL !!)

Never happen VcKrc. Obama has been the perfect gentleman in the race, but he is no dummy. His supporters would not accept her. She's gone beyond the point of no return to try to establish some facade of unity, and that's exactly what it would be, a facade.

Woo Woo!!! Keep 'em coming!! I am hoping that many more will come out for Obama today. What a perfect way to take away from Hillary's "big" win.

As far as the SD who "switched" sides goes. I remember hearing many times throughout this campaign, that the "pledged" delegates never switch sides. I can certainly understand why Hillary might be upset at the recent SD who did just that. I too was under the impression that pledged delegates are not or most likely will NOT ever switch sides.

However, I have read on other blogs that they expect or encourage Obama to speak out agains it and to them I say, "Why should he?" It isn't his fault. Watch, if more Pledged Delegates decide to switch, somehow it'll be Obama's fault, at least according to the HRC fans. I don't buy it.

The pledged delegate that switched from Hillary to Obama wasn't voted on by the voters. Jack Johnson is a pledged delegate from MD.

Per the Washington Post:

Unlike superdelegates, who are free to endorse either candidate, Johnson is one of 28 pledged delegates who have agreed to represent the 36 percent of Maryland Democrats who voted for Clinton on Feb. 12.

Some Clinton delegates were chosen by voters at the ballot. Others, such as Johnson, were selected in consultation with the Clinton campaign by the Maryland Democratic State Central Committee, party spokesman David Paulson said.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/05/12/AR2008051202554.html

I had no idea that some pledged delegates were chosen by the voters and other selected in consultantion with the campaign and the MD dem party. IT may be splitting hairs, and , like you, I don't want to see pledged delegates from either side switching support.
