Flag Lapel Pin

Chicago Tribune:

So what is that on Barack Obama's lapel as he speaks at a town meeting in conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh's hometown, Cape Girardeau, Mo.?

Why, it's a flag pin!

For the second day in a row, Obama has pinned the Stars and Stripes to his suit lapel. He also wore a flag pin yesterday at an appearance in Charleston, W.Va., in which he spoke about patriotism and veterans issues.

Obama does not typically wear a flag pin on his lapel, in contrast to many politicians who now campaign wearing the symbol. But Obama did wear flag lapel pin briefly last month in Pennsylvania, after he was given one by a disabled veteran.

Critics have targeted his habit of dressing without a flag pin to raise questions about his patriotism.

And Hillary shows her love of bowlers everywhere by having a guy waving a bowling pin behind her head. If that wasn't a set up prop, I don't know what is. Why would the Secret Service permit someone in the crowd to hold a projectile like that? Who goes around carrying their own bowling pin? Doesn't WV bowling alleys have their own bowling pins?

I still have never seen Hillary wear a Flag pin, (and the media doesn't care), but she loves those bowling pins. (Didn't she get gutter bowls on Ellen?)

Obama: wear it from now on so it won't be an issue for you. People who questioned you for not wearing it, didn't wear it too but they want to make everything about you an issue. The sooner you disable it, without contradicting of what you believe in, the better. Also, learn from Clinton: trump up what are good about you or your policies, ignore what are not; no one is perfect, so are you. Compared with Clinton, your character is miles ahead that is why people voted for you and you won against the mighty Clintons machine.

Even better, go one up on the foolish people who have tried to make this a story.

Wear two, or even three flag pins, just so people can see that you are two or even three times as patriotic as the next person.

He should keep a bunch in his pocket so he can pin one on each person that asks him about it. And after he pins one on the questioner he can then say "OK, now you can ask me about the flag pin."

I got an idea. How about if next time he makes a speech or does a debate, he comes out wearing a flag pin that is 4"x 6", and says “May patriotism is bigger than your Patriotism”?

Obama has worn the flag pin more than the two times this was published. When addressing vets he always wore one.

"When addressing vets he always wore one."

Why?
It wouldn't be....pandering now would it? Why would he drag out a flag pin to address vets while he's spent months defending not needing to wear a flag pin to show his patriotism?

Total non-issue. He can wear it one day and not the next, it means nothing unless you attach meaning to it. I consider myself patriotic, but I'd never see myself wearing a flag pin or sticking a flag sticker on my car.

After 9/11 around here everybody had the flags, stickers and magnets on their vehicles... 2 months later all you saw were tattered flags laying on the side of the highway. And most of that stuff was made in China anyway!

The issue never was if he wore one, it was how he characterized those that do- as false-patriots...so Obama is now a false patriot. Glad he cleared that up.

McCain also needs to explain why he won't support the 21st Century GI Bill just proposed, he was one of the few who did not vote for the Bill, stating that it's too generous? WTF!!!!

You judge McCain, but, are YOU working to get the G I Bill passed? I am. If you aren't, then shut up. You don't actually care unless you are writing, calling and working....if you aren't..how dare you judge another.

How dare you? I judge McCain to be a turncoat ex-maverick martinet with a dismal military record AND I'm working, calling and writing for a MORE generous GI Bill. So what?

This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of...!!! It seems Barack is just not going to satisfy anyone.....He doesn't wear the silly China-made lapel pin, he gets scrutinized and criticized , he decides he is going to wear it on occasion, he still gets scrutinized. This selective scrutiny and criticism is really an outrage~ John McCain doesn't wear one, but oh....yeah he gets a pass because, well, he was a POW.......so he apparently can go through this while campaign without any scrutiny whatsoever, because we all have to take it easy because he might explode with a bizarre temper or something......OMG~!! But that is not an excuse to not scrutinize this man...if anything, and if one wants to truly and honestly scutinize because of a silly metal pin......McCain should have to explain why he doesn't wear one, more so than Barack Obama. Hillary Clinton doesn't wear one either....but as we all know...she can do whatever she wants, and get away with it.....what an outrage~!!!

Perhaps Obama like his wife and Rev. Wright is not proud of anything American and has consistently refused to wear a pin. An advisor and perhaps several have convinced him that his election chances are improved by wearing one and no longer having to answer those questions. Just another politician who will do anything to get elected. Change? I don't think so.

Sorry, that wasn't me, but a racist relative of mine. The flag pin issue is a non issue meant to be divisive. Obama has been very clear about why he stopped wearing the lapel pin. It became the 'Badge of False Courage and Patriotism' of the Republican party when they, along with Hillary, held their nose and gave GWB the approval of the Legislative Branch of the government to go to war with shoddy intelligence that didn't fit what others UN member nations had found. It didn't fit Scott Ritter's or Hans Blix's assessments of what they where finding on the ground. They both said very loudly that it was a ruse but The Repubs and HRC didn't care to listen or even read the N.I.E. That's when and why Barack quit wearing the lapel pin to every function and PHOTO-OP. He does where a pin when addressing Veterans, but as a Senator, he is a CIVILIAN, as contituted in the CONSITUTION, that we have CIVILIAN LEADERSHIP, not Uniformed Military Commanders.

I feel like screaming about the maddening triviality of reporting on the flag lapel pin.

O.K., so maybe I was not paying attention and all the important issues, such as the never ending war, American vets receiving substandard care or high rate of suicide among our solders, the mortgaging of our children’s future to finance this senseless war, trampling on the constitution, lack of health care coverage for millions of Americans, etc, etc, etc, has been covered. In that case can we address some issues affecting the rest of the world, say, world hunger, thousands dying or being displaced of natural disasters, refugees scattered around the world without any hope or prospect, the ever increasing fragility of security in the world and so on.

I wish Obama had not worn the stupid Flag pin. It was a pander, nothing more.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:43 AM on 05/14/2008

It's a flag pin, nothing more. Does it pander, sure. Is it a neccessity for a black man who still has a large percentage of Americans thinking he's unpatrioptic or a Muslim? Absolutely.

There are fights worth winning and some worth losing. The flag pin debate is definately one worth losing.

All of the Clintonistas are making issues about a flag pin and Jeremiah Wright. Hey check this out. She never wears a flag pin. And some of you that are making issues about Jeremiah Wright get over yourself. He said some things that were DUMB but at best but this man isn't Anti-White at all.

The real deal is that some of you are just itching to use race against him (Obama). Like the exit polls in Indiana, North Carolina, and West Virginia They all said that Obama's connection with Wright felt he was not honest and didn't share their values....Values????

OK, now let’s talk. Forget John Hagee, and Rod Parsley
The Late Jerry Falwell
Pat Robertson
Dr James Kennedy
Michael Huckabee
Bob Jones

Their values have always been from the 60's till present. We love Lord and he heard our cry and pitied every groan. As long as I live and trouble rise. Keep those Ni&&ers down the street and I'll haste unto his thrown.

These people have spewed venom in their churches for years. But that's OK with some of white folk. Give me break. Pat Robertson said God was going to destroy the West Coast because of sin.

Religious Bigotry is NOT attached to race. And Hillary says, I would have not stayed at that church. But Oh worse Hillary you stayed with a Man that was taking care of everybody else’s MOUSSY but yours! So why did you stay there??????

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:36 AM on 05/14/2008

Why would you put Mike Huckabee in that group? He lambasted Hagee and others for there ignorant and hateful remarks and even stated how lame Hagee's apology was. I'm a Dem, and although I don't believe in all of Mike's ideology, I think he is a decent and honest man.

I can't believe people are so shallow and small-minded. Imagine making assumptions about someone from a little piece of hardware.
