West Virgina Democrats go to the polls Tuesday, where Sen. Hillary Clinton is expected to win easily over rival Barack Obama. Clinton has been campaigning hard in West Virginia, despite the fact that most Democrats now believe that Barack Obama will be their party's nominee:

The two candidates campaigned across West Virginia on Monday, with Mrs. Clinton's motorcade driving more than two hours through the winding hills of Appalachia, where she courted a relatively small number of voters in hopes of driving up her expected margin of victory. She is counting on a big victory to impress undecided superdelegates, the party leaders who will most likely decide the nomination.

Mrs. Clinton also wants to show strength in Kentucky and West Virginia -- states Democrats have struggled to carry in presidential elections -- not to mention, advisers say, pointing up what the Clinton campaign sees as the weakness of the Obama coalition. But advisers acknowledged that even if she won those states by wide margins, it was probably too late to change the dynamic of the nominating contest in her favor.

Poll Closing Times: Polls in West Virginia will be open from 6:30am to 7:30pm ET.

Pledged Delegates: 28 pledged delegates are at stake on Tuesday.

Latest Polling: A Suffolk University poll Monday showed Hillary Clinton with a 36-point lead over Barack Obama. Clinton leads Obama 60 to 24.

The narrative of Hillary having a big win in W.Va. may change if Obama outnumbers here in delegates by garnering so many superdelegates today.

Brilliant!!!

How else could he respond to a thumping in WV except to open the faucet a little more? Most of these daily endorsements are strictly politics timed to minimize Clinton's presumptive victory tonght. Masking Obama's problem with Reagan Democrats works well in the primary, but still leaves a big question about GE electability. Posters on this site act as though Clinton demographics not only are meaningless but are unworthy of pursuing, which is elitism at its worst.

It's not elitist, it's reality: no matter what Obama says or does, he will not garner a certain demographic -- those hard working white Democrats -- you know, the Reagan Democrats -- those undereducated.

Solution: increase his base. Change the map. Can be done and will be done.

You gotta learn how to think outside the box -- it's more creative thinking.

Who cares about this backassward state anyway? Hillist and Slick Willy in their delusional quest to ruin the democrats chances in the most important general in perhaps the nations history, would rather play their insane egotistical games to weaken Obama enough so she can run in 2012. They are the biggest scumbags I've ever seen in the democratic party. Her worshipers would rather let the repubs get the swing vote on the Supreme court, screw any chance of getting any changes to our health care system, are so goddamn delusional they would let great grandpa McWarpig continue on the republicans insane bloodbath, and even more wars based on the lies in a vain attempt to quench the bloodthirsty republicans insatiable thirst for more carnage. All so she can run again in 2012. They are simply abhorrent, abominable, antipathetic, contemptible, despisable, detestable, disgusting, foul, infamous, loathsome, lousy, low, mean, nasty, nefarious, obnoxious, odious, repugnant, rotten, shabby, vile, wretched, and despicable. I've been a lifelong dem and have defended them a thousand times. Now I wouldn't support them for freakin dogcatcher.

Why are all these West Virginians voting? With very little policy difference between the two candidates, and the history of the state, the message they are sending is loud and clear. Just the message Hllary wants made: White people won't vote for the black guy-see? How embarrassing for them.

Obama just picked up 2 more Superdelegates:

Obama picked up the endorsement of New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin (a Louisiana add on) and Colorado Gov. Roy Romer is set to hold an Obama conference call at 11:00 a.m. ET. Romer is currently uncommitted.

Obama has now picked up 25 (with Romer would be 26) this past week.

Is it at all problematic or embarrassing that Obama will likely lose the majority of the remaining primaries?

How do you figure he is going to lose the majority of the remaining primaries? Also, if CA were held today, he'd win.

The primaries aren't indicative how the general election will fare.

Is it problematic or embarrassing for Hillary that he will have won 35 contests and she will only have won 19? That she was a household name who got hammered by a relatively unknown brotha with big ears? Or that she's going to be 20 million dollars in debt??

I don't know...just asking.

I thought small states didn't matter? Also, winning "red states" doesn't prove anything? Like, winning the primary in states that will go Repub in the general? Thought I heard the campaign talking about that, but obviously staying on message has not been a priority. She's a great senator, a wonderful person, a courageous, idealist candidate, who ran a crappy campaign. I blame Penn, or maybe Bill, but this has been over for as long as the GOP race has, only now the media is doing the math.

That said, Senator Clinton will definitely win West Virginia. It will be an impressive win, by 30+ percentage points, and she will carry all the state's congressional districts. That will amount to winning 19 or 20 of the 28 pledged delegates, meaning she will have a net gain of +/- 11 delegates. That will be the ninth state she has netted a double digit delegate win. Obama had double digit delegate wins in nine states by February 5, and now has twice that many. WV is literally too little, too late to save her.

What's happening is, she's fouling down the stretch, and lofting shots behind the arc every time she has the ball. Yes, Pennsylvania and West Virginia are cases of hitting a couple of 3-pointers, but Obama continues to hit free throws, and she's down 20 with under a minute left. It's time to hold the ball, run out the clock, and rebuild for next season.

West Virginia is a horrible state (an embarrassment to the rest of the country). I know that for a fact, their police lie under oath so they can give you a ticket when they see out-of-state license plates. I decided to fight it and the WV lawyer I hired said "there is no way you will get a fair trial in West Virginia", just pay the fine. Pathetic. As far as I am concerned the red-necks from West Virginia can stay in their hollows and trailer homes. They mean absolutely nothing in this election. They are hugely racist plus people with limited intelligence, possibly due to inbreeding: (watch the movie “Deliverance” for an idea of the nature of these “people”)

Mayor Nagin is the 283rd superdelegate to endorse Obama, who is 148 delegates away from securing the Democratic nomination.

CHICAGO, IL – Today, New Orleans Mayor and Superdelegate Ray Nagin endorsed Barack Obama for President, citing Obama’s advocacy for the people of Louisiana and working men and women across the country:

In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Senator Obama worked to help address the needs of our Gulf Coast communities. As the Gulf Coast continues to rebuild, other cities have faced tragic disasters across this country. Therefore, it is critical that this country's infrastructure and emergency response systems are evaluated and rebuilt to sustain our cities and protect our families. What happened in Louisiana should never happen again.

I have learned firsthand that a unified constituency can make what seems impossible, possible. Senator Obama represents a new generation of leadership, one that can help heal the divisions of the past and unify this country so that together we can build a stronger future.

Since the immediate days following the storm, I have been travelling to our nation’s capitol to advocate for policies that aid our rebuilding effort. I know firsthand, we desperately need the leadership of someone committed to changing the system in Washington that can hold us back from moving forward. For these reasons, I endorse Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nominee.

Florida's own political leadership is responsible for their early primary and loss of voting rights in the Democratic party. They're the ones who changed the date of the primary, even though they knew the rules.

Is there a collective loss of oxygen to the brain in Hillary Land? Where in the blue blazes do you folks get your information that it is Obama's fault what is happening in Florida. Take a look at the nimrods you folks voted into office - YOUR STATE BROKE THE FRIGGING RULES!! What, they are to seat it the way Clinton wants just because? If they get seated, it will be in a fair manner, not to appease her desperate campaign or the brainless base that keeps repeating the incorrect, "woe is us" storyline. That's right, "oscarp" it's all Senator Obama's fault what happened in FL and MI, your local legislatures and the other Democratic candidates had nothing to do with it. Why is it OK to make fun of these people --no one questions the education level of other voting blocks in this election cycle. Voting rights acts were instituted to protect minorites from tests related to literacy and education. How soon we forget. Do you think these people and others without a good education should lose the right to vote? The comments here are disturbing. More unity talk I guess.

Hillary is overtly pandering to racism and ignorance, though--the argument is not that they should be denied the vote. Should the ignorant be exalted as the elitist at all of our expense? Didn't we have enough of that under Bush?
Do you really feel comfortable with Clinton's gameplan appealing to ignorance and racism to benefit herself. it isn't like she is putting forth the effort to enlighten ignorance, she is exploiting it!

I don't think anyone is trying to take voting rights away. If your basis for noting voting for someone is their race or gender, you get the ridicule you deserve. What unity are these folks representing? Why is the burden always on one side of this issue - you make racist comments and you are supposed to be applauded for honesty. Never mind any challenges to your mindset. If "unity "is tolerating that, you can have it.

We term our system of counting the "Arabic" numeral system, so I guess the people who "invented" the fact that Obama will win were the original Arabians who came up with a way of counting things and tallying that count via a system of "numbers". But the numbers are clear; Obama is the nominee, and has been since February 5, 2008.

You're less than half right.

Sen. Obama's superdelegate wins provide an offsetting narrative against the West Virginia electorate. Short of reaching 27 out of 28 delegates, Sen. Clinton has won the battle but lost the war.

Nevertheless, a convincing win provides Sen. Clinton with momentum to carry forward into Kentucky and Oregon. In the interim, Sen. Obama must deliver a greater proportion of superdelegates.
Otherwise, Kentucky will remain steadfast in Sen. Clinton's camp and the fine people of Oregon risk getting cold feet.
