It was heart-wrenching to watch this primary - but I've found a few silver linings to help Obama supporters lift their spirits

Upon reviewing the it appears that 78% of the clinton votes did so because of the "Bill Factor" - name recognition at it's best. (take what you want from this fact-I won't say anything more)

Also, 74% of clinton voters said the Gas Tax Holiday was a good idea/major factor - which I guess can be supported by the fact that 70% of Clinton voters today have no college degree. Apparently HRC's pandering paid off big in this state.

A surprising fact however, is that 77% of those who voted in WV today say that race was NOT important in their decision - only 22% say that it was. (might be worth their while for Obama to help them get to know him to swing some back over b4 Nov.)

It is worth mentioning that 48% of Clinton voters said they'd vote for Obama in Nov- 29% McCain - 18% stay home - much better than the previous exit polls showed.

Hopefully this will ease some of the bitterness of the recent posting regarding WV voters - they couldn't help being "snowed" by HRC/Bill - and Obama wasn't there to educate them so I guess it's c'est la vie for now.

Racists usually don't admit they are racists. So the percentage who said that race was not a factor cannot necessarily be believed.

These people are in the stone age...Racist is an understatement. Now I don't feel sorry for them for being the poorest State in the Union and the less educated dumps. There is clearly a racial divide here and if anyone tells me otherwise should go and live in WV.

I don't care what the exit polls say, 80% said race was not an issue? When those exact same exit polls showed that 88% of them have been impacted by the current state of the economy and that only 1/3 of them would vote for Obama, 1/3 would stay home, and 1/3 would vote for McCain. Those people are simply put, R-A-C-I-S-T-S!

Yes, I F'ING said it. R-A-C-I-S-T-S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And yes, I'm white!!!!!!!

And the 90%+ Black vote that Obama is getting - even againt a fellow Dem with nearly identical programs - is that racist too?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:27 PM on 05/13/2008

Where have you seen ANY data that suggests that 1/3 of those Blacks would stay home and 1/3 of those blacks would vote for John McCain if Hillary stole the nomination? Answer: YOU HAVEN'T!!!!!!!!!!!

I've seen data that says 48% would vote Obama, 29% Mccain and 18% would stay home - heres the link

What has bothered me about her is the lack of respect for and snobbery towards Senator Obama. She feels such a sense of entitlement, as if saying all the people who have voted for Senator Obama are wrong.

Can ANYONE believe that she is BRAGGING about taking money from a kid who sold their bicycle and video games to donate to her campaign?

Despicable....simply despicable.

Honestly I can't believe the kids parents allowed him to do it knowing that all its going to do is go into paying herself back that $11.4 million.

What the hell is wrong with these people? The parent, the Clinton's, NONE of them have ANY shame within themselves.

What happened to 80-20??

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:34 PM on 05/13/2008

In fact Hillary has topped 60 only twice in the
fifty or so primaries so far.

She got 65 tonight in West Virginia and
70 in her home state of Arkansas.

Obama, on the other hand, has won primaries
in -- sixteen -- states in which he scored 60
to 90 points over Hillary.

The results are from the NY Times Delegate
Calculator site.

Alaska 75 - 25
Colorado 67 - 32
Democrats Abroad 67 - 33
District of Columbia 75 - 24
Hawaii 76 - 24
Idaho 80 - 17
Kansas 74 - 26
Maryland 61 - 36
Minnesota 66 - 32
Mississippi 61 - 37
Nebraska 68 - 32
North Dakota 61 - 37

Many in West Virginia and elsewhere in the red and purple states are in dire financial states brought about in large part by following Republican fiscal policies under Reagan, Bush, and Bush, even Clinton with his Republican Congress and NAFTA support. If Obama shows them how his policies will reverse the America down the toilet trend of the Royalist Republican party, he will get their votes, if his response is to call them racist, dumb crackers, as his supporters are doing here, he will never get their votes. Conservatism doesn't work, never has worked, never will work except the transfer of funds and power from the many to the few. Even rural and uneducated people can understand that if you treat them with respect.

Nice attempt there, oafishcad. But the Obama kids are indulging in an orgy of deprecatory remarks regarding the Ohio River Valley. It makes them feel superior.

I agree with Flowergirl - and I've read posts from people from WV who say the opposite - that people are more racist. But I've lived almost everywhere - midwest, California, the Carolinas and the Rockies, and the places that are far and away the most racist are the places that are segregated between haves and have nots - and that includes LA - where whites pretend that half the city - East LA and South Central simply don't exist. Maybe they are more educated and use proper language - but that makes it worse.

The bigotry isn't limited to the Ohio River Valley - it pretty much applies to anybody who isn't who you are - or doesn't plan to vote your way.. And by the way - I'm for Obama and I'm not part of a "circle jerk of 20-somethings." I'm middle-aged, from a red state and my father was a dirt farmer with 11 children. You dumb putz. I don't know what more morons like you could do to alienate the Hillarycrats. You could not be more asinine if you tried. What matters more to you, winning in the fall or venting your spleen at a critical constituency of the party? Just keep on going fool - you're the best argument for McCain many democrats could have.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:54 PM on 05/13/2008

You are correct that it is completely out of place to say that a state is racist, or that a state is racist, etc.

But, in terms of alienating certain of Clinton's supporters, I have mixed emotions. To me, it really, really is important to try to get away from old politics. It really, really is important to elevate ourselves. And some of Hillary's tactics have been so awful that I would rather alienate the people who support those tactics, even if that means suffering a McCain presidency. At least, unlike Clinton, McCain is generally honest.

I Agree except that I have visited WV. & there is a Very Strong Racist Additude but I would still not say that the ENTIRE state is Racist. Unfortunately I have seen a few intervews Today & I must say the way some of these Voters are representing themselves You would expect to see a Welcome to the KKK sign while Entering the State.

But I Would Not Say The ENTIRE State Is Racist .

Exit polls showed 7 of 10 in West Virginia thought the gas tax holiday was a good idea. That is exactly the reverse of the National polls.

And for those of you claiming that racism isn't a problem in West Virginia, I suggest you visit the small towns there and get a flavor of it for yourself....

I have been to WV. & Ky. and You are Correct. I found parts of Kentucky to be a little bit Worse.

Still I would not say that Both States are Entirely Racist.

I am from PA and all of those people who are filled with distain for their situations as it relates to the issue like the economy, jobs and healthcare and the war refuse or have blind eyes and closed ears to who really got them into this mess.

Like they say they don't know Obama well enough! Well one thing for sure they no that he just became a Senator not to long ago, they no he has never held any other high office on the Hill before, so Obama damn sure is not the one that is the cause of all of the problems they are suffering from now.

The sad part about misinformed people is that even if Obama does win the presidency people like this will be so set in their ways that even if he helped to change these desparities and help us all through the issues we face, they would still find away to discredit that man because it's in their nature to do so. It ashame that hate could maqke you suffer and complain for another four years. How pathetic.

" A house divided against itself shall so fall" Our house is in desparate need of repair. It's common sense people....enough said!

While America attacks another country in the name of democracy, it fails to look into itself and see the disparage that is happening. Racism is still a big issue here. One step forward for this country is to do what it wants other to do. First step is to elect an African American as its president. Actually all eyes are on America. People never realize this, but having Obama in office will be a tremendous statement to the world that yes we can be unbiased and be democratic.

You know the real sad part about this is that Hillary's campaign realizes this defeat she has experienced and knows why it happened yet she still wants to press on, and that is her right to do so. The sad part of this is after all she has done right in front all of American's, yet those few select supporters chose to rationalize and ignore what has been so evident from the start and the reason she has lost this campaign. Hillary is a polarizing and divisive figure always has been and it is evident to a lot of people. This was and has always been about Hillary, is just now it really in your face.

Hillary has decided to do just like conservatives mostly repugnicans is to split American down whatever dividing line is available. I am not as well versed as quite a few of you on here, but one thing I do know is unless we come together period and soon we are facing a more horrific state of affairs than we are current living.

About the people that Hillary is using like a roll of toilet paper as of late is the constituency that feeds into these division and would no more vote for her in the General than they would Obama, all she is providing an out for those to dumb to know the truth or to cowardice to admit that they just don't want a black man in the highest office in America.

My guess is that if a lot of the primaries Obama won were held now, Clinton would win them. A lot has happened since the early primaries and that is why Clinton is on such a roll. He's lucky Wright didn't come to light earlier.

This message is for all the a-holes out there who are claiming that Hillary will win WV because WV is racist, backward, inbred, etc., etc. etc. I find it telling that none of you used these dispicable epithets when describing NY, NJ, CA, etc, etc, etc.

One piece of advice for you. Do NOT come to WV with those attitudes, or we WILL hand your ass and your hat back to you at the same time. NOT a threat. A PROMISE.

This message brought to you by a WV OBAMA supporter.

Your anger is directed at the wrong people.....keep that promise with some of the racist, backward, inbred folk that inhabit your state and maybe you might change some of the stereotypes. While we don't don't believe everyone in your state is that way, it is sort of like describing Massechusetts as a Democratic state. ...It doesn't mean there aren't Republicans there, it is that they are so outnumbered. Deal with reality, quit moaning and groaning about how mad you are about people talking about it.
