White racist hillbillies are irrelevant. Vote for McCain in November if it makes you feel superior. Either way, Obama will be the next president.

If it is a blowout, it'll just make West Virginia look bad. The exit poll data will confirm what everyone already knows, which is that rural white folks are racist. It's sad that Hillary can't win without the help of the worst kind of Americans. States just West Virginia and Kentucky should just go form their own country.

"States just West Virginia and Kentucky should just go form their own country."

I think some states to the south of them tried that once and it didn't work out well for them.

And WV actually separated from VA because they were ANTI- SLAVERY.

I live in WV, I'm not racist. People need to be educated about people in the world. You probably think every Muslim has a bomb strapped to them.

No matter how many times you say it, it will not be true. He has trounced Hillary in Lilly-white states. How do you explain that away? In most states, if you leave out the 65+ vote, just for the sake of argument, Obama wins the White vote. Wahoo! Imagine that!

Actually, Obama carries on average 30% of white voters overall. The interesting thing is, he carries nearly 60% that traditionally vote Democrat. The remaining 70% make up swing voters, Repubs and Independents.
People are seriously forgeting that in this Dem on Dem race, folks are voting on values, principles, race, and a whole host of other things as a means of distinguishing one from the other. In the fall, it will be Dem on Repub--and many of those folks that vote based on identity (whites for white) are going to the other side anyway. What's important is maintaining what is SOLIDLY Democrat...and picking off the independents and swing voters that DON'T AGREE with J. McCain's policies.

Who cares how the WV vote, now that we know more about that state. Would never go to live or visit, evidently it is KKK ville. Didn't know, but now we do.

Narrow minded people in the 21st century have no place to go but down. Their children won't be competing with minds, so I won't worry about them, until they decide to join the global community we all live in.

Go WV have fun, but you are irrelevant at this point.

Well I wouldn't hold the entire state responsible. I am sure there is a lot of folks there who aren't racist. I think it is probably quite a few of the older folk who still cling to such narrow views - probably a cultural thing, as i bet people you would consider fine and nice people would be the ones harboring this prejudice.

It's going ot be their children who will lead them out, IMO. Even if the older folks think (with the help of clinton) that being bigotted is A-OK, it will be the kids who are more in touch with 21st century america who will make the change.

Only a fool thinks that is "racist".

Listen, if people vote FOR someone, based on something superficial like race or gender, like blacks voting for Obama or those annoying militiant feminists for Clinton, then it is an "identity" vote, not a "racist" ir "sexist" vote. There is no animosity.

When people vote -against- someone based on something superficial like race or gender, like whites who won't vote for a black, or men who won't vote for a woman, THEN it is racist and sexist.

Is it so hard for you (and others it seems!) to understand the concept of voting for and voting against? To understand the difference between animosity and pride?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:23 PM on 05/13/2008

Smart and Educated. Notice Black people are not going around saying they will not vote for Hillary because she is white. They are not voting for her because she has run a poor campaign, has attacked Obama every chance she could.
They are voting for Obama because he is a good candidate who is willing to work to change the direction this country has gone instead of more of the same.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:34 PM on 05/13/2008

Hey hold on everyone... Just because the state of WV overwhelmingly favors Clinton doesn't mean they are all racists. I am sure there is some of that going on, but I think that is mainly media hyping up the story to make headlines. Clinton is a brand name and a lot of folks know her and a lot don't know Obama.

This is some blow back from the Wright debacle. This is where Reverend Wright needs to reflect on the damage he did to this Country's racial dialogue. If some of these folks had a hard time trusting this new comer black guy, their fears were certainly fanned by all that.

Furthermore, we run the risk of alienating this state altogether. Who says they wont vote for Obama in November? Just because they are voting for Clinton doesn't mean they wont vote Obama. I think there is evidence to support what I am saying. Of course, we will hear what exit polls say.

please. this state had its mind made up WAY before the wright conflagration. they isolate themselves. they WANT to be isolated. as Mitchell below informs below. this is a racially gated community. no other state in the union is more "Caucasianally" concentrated. nearly half the people there freely admit that race is a big factor in their decision. three quarters of the rest are too afraid to admit that they will never vote for dark skin. Obama will be competitive in the GE here but he will most likely lose to McCain there in November.

You need to visit WV. Yes, some areas are very scary and inbred lol, but that is a vast vast minority of people and unfortunately some people like to make everyone sound like uneducated, pregnant, incestual, racists. I'm not racist, Obama's "color" doesn't affect my vote. I'm voting for EXPERIENCE. I've supported Hillary waaaaaay before Obama got into this race. If Hillary hadn't been running, I would be an Obama supporter without a doubt.

No, not EVERYONE in WV is racist. I live here, and trust me, I'm not racist. I just like some actual experience.
But yes, there is racism here in WV just like in everyone "Southern State"....because a majority of our residents are older, they grew up when racism was the norm. It's very unfortunate.

But she has no more real experience than Obama, and what's more, she's already lost. So WHY are you voting for her? To waste your vote?

Why are you ok with her lies and her tactics? Do you really think a person who budgeted so poorly that they are now 20 million buck in debt is fit to take care of america's budget?

You have very little cred from my perspective. She is an appalling candidate and not fit to run the country just by virtue of her incompetent campaign, nevermind her horrific tactics and constant attempts to cheat. What kind of person are you that you want that in the White house?

Imo you are probably also a bigot, but you feel guilty about it so you are trying to convince yourself - and us- that you have some really good reason to vote for her. I guess you can beleive it all you want, but please don't expect others to.

I will take that back if you can post actual facts of her "experience" and justify her lies and attempts to cheat and tell me why these things, and her inability to budget - make her a "better" candidate.

It is your vote, of course, as well as your own look in the mirror - but consider that your vote would be better spent backing the actual nominee, and trying to counter the dreadful perception of your state, than to futilely back the loser.

Hillary, in an interview early this spring, spent quite some time discussing how important the superdelegates were, that in fact they were actually more important than the pledged delegates. Her reasoning was that the superdelegates know the candidates in a way that we the voters cannot. We only see them from a distance but the superdelegates work with them and know them on a more personal level, thus being able to offer a more objective and balanced determination as to each individuals qualifications.

So using Hillary's apparent belief about the ultimate wisdom of the superdelegates, her supporters really cannot complain when the superdelegates come out for Barack. Hillary clearly felt they were the ones who had the information necessary to make the best decision in the case of a close public contest.

WV and KY should be renamed the “Land that Time Forget” or the “States of Denial”. While every metric points to Obama winning the nomination, facts don’t matter to most WV and KY voters. Based on news reports http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/12/obama-in-west-virginia-wh_n_101306.htmll , http://us.ft.com/ftgateway/superpage.ft?news_id=fto051120081526533438&page=1 , http://www.mcclatchydc.com/251/story/36624.html ) many of these people are voting against Obama because they’re racist or they question his patriotism. These warped, frustrated people have so much hate in their hearts that they’d rather throw their votes away on Hillary than step forward into the 21st century.

The people voting for Hillary in WV or KY would vote for Bugs Bunny or Mickey Mouse over Obama. Hillary shouldn't brag about winning the racist vote which she has blatantly pandered to for weeks.

Hillary has morphed into George Wallace, Jesse Helms, and Strom Thurmond and has nothing to be proud of tonight or the night she wins KY.

As voters go to the polls today, it is worth keeping in mind some facts about West Virginia. Given that Hillary and company have made such a big deal about large states, it is fair to say that WV is not even a middle size state. Its population in 2006 is estimated at 1,818,470, far less than 1% of the U.S. population (closer to 1/2 of 1%). It’ population grew at a rate of .6% between 2000–2006, while the US grew at a rate of 6.4%. Oh, and given Hillary’s recent emphasis on hard-working, white Americans, you might be interested to learn that WV is 94.9. white.

For more see, the official state portal of WV, where they have US census figures. http://www.wv.gov/OffSite.aspx?u=http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/54000.html

For more commentary on the election, http://msa4.wordpress.com/

Why is West Virginia 94.9 percent white? Is that really a bad thing? Could it just mean that since the geography of the area didn't support the cultivation of cotton, tobacco, and other plantation crops that slaves were not imported in large numbers as they were in other "less racist" southern states like South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi?

No offense to people who aren't racist, but this is rather embarrassing as a nation. I mean, you have other countries looking at W.Va. right now, and what's coming out of there isn't good. I hope everyone realizes, that this state doesn't represent the U.S. as a whole, that on the contrary, W.Va. is unique in its high number of non-college educated voters, lowest income, etc.

I also think it's pretty disgusting of the Clintons to go begging and pleading the racist vote. It's grotesque to watch these people (Clintons) who claim to be bringing the Democratic party together, surround themselves with racist voters and suck every bit of it up! This is a sad display.

I didn't know that WV was 94% white. That is crazy!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:27 PM on 05/13/2008

unfortunately, for the few reasonable people that might actually live in WV, the people that are being given the public face of WV give the rest of America and the world a sort of freak show view of an arcane part of our country. it is real. no one is moving to WV anymore, as evidenced by Mitchell4A's informative post above, and there is a reason for it: America is evolving and the diehard small-minded's are staying put.

the clinton campaign will desperately try to make hay out of this "win" but it is hardly much of a win when you consider the actual prize. these people needs some education funding and reform in a huge way. i think obama will help with that.

You can truly care about Hillary being the next President without racism or lack of education involved. She is a wonderful candidate and for you to put down the 16 million plus people who have voted for her is inexcusable. West Virginians, Kentuckians and Puerto Ricans are not all uneducated racists, they want Hillary to win the nomination, they don't necessarily want Obama to lose it.

Even racists are entitled to one vote each. I don't however believe you can deduct the percentage of the white vote Hillary gets in another state, subtract it from her West Virginia total and call the remainders racists.
West Virginia is a state with deeply engrained racial tensions and problems, but dismissing them as ignorant rednecks helps no one move forward.
