"The Love Guru" has not received a warm welcome from some Hindu groups, who reportedly have requested that India's Central Board of Film Certification and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting ban screenings of the Mike Myers comedy in India.

In March, U.S.-based Universal Society of Hinduism president Rajan Zed was one of the first to protest the film when he said it "appears to be lampooning Hinduism."

Media reports Tuesday quoted Bhavna Shinde, a representative of Mumbai-based Hindu organization Janjagruti Samiti and Sanatan Society for Scientific Spirituality as saying that the censor board should "stop distributing or screening the movie till Paramount has made necessary changes ... so that it will not hurt the feelings of the worldwide spiritual and Hindu community."

I practice Hinduism, and I don't find this to be offensive at all. When it comes to religion, I believe that
people definitely need a sense of humor. All religions possess qualities that may seem a little inane to people who do not understand it. Once you talk about banning movies, you are moving into the realm of religious extremism. It doesn't take a historian to see the negative impact that religious extremism has had through out history. Also, I believe that God too must possess a sense of humor.
Mike Myers was once a pretty funny guy, but rehashing his Austin Powers brand of humor is pretty lame. I don't care what religion he may be mocking - this movie looks like a bomb!!!!

Meyers is a no talent hack but all religious nonsense deserves to be ridiculed whenever possible.
no respect for superstition.

I'm going to roast a cow for these Hindu Fundamentalists and they can eat it with Steak Sauce. I guess the Hindus have decided to become assholes along with other Fundamentalists.

Mike Myers' boat for fame and success sailed about 4 years ago after he filmed the atrocious "Cat in the Hat"! He has since been replaced with better talents such as Ryan Renolds, Vince Vaughn, etc. "Wayne's World" was a long time ago, and we don't see Dana Carvey trying to make a come back--it is tacky and obnoxious!

Myers is a talented guy but it looks like he's run out of steam creatively. All the gags in the clips are just rehashing skits from Austin Powers.

I've banned him for years, along with Dana Carvey, Martin Short, and Joe Piscopo. Unfunniest people ever!

Oh please - just consider this an installment on paying back the Indian faithful for the Maharashi Mahesh Yogi's pollution of the Beatles. What goes around comes around.

Gurus don't necessarily identify themselves as Hindus, even if they come from India and use Hindu concepts. Besides, any religion that can come up with Ganesh, the elephant-boy god, has got to have a funnybone somewhere.
Just don't joke about Mohammed.

the only thing that offended me in the trailer (and i mean besides it being completely unfunny) was jessica alba. must she ruin every movie?

Couldn't agree more. I am sick of that talentless woman (especially Alba who i particularly despise)showing up in so many movies when great talents like Angela Bassett don;t get the big films.

And we should ban all the crappy Bollywood movies that come our way.

how about all the crappy Hollywood movies?

No, all generalizations are false, including this one.

The Hindu fundamentalists asking for the ban are actually the brethren of the Christian fundamentalists asking for the ban on Harry Potter.

It is better to give these people as little press as possible. I am convinced that they do it for just the publicity.

As if Mike Myers has the power to offend a 4000 year old religion....

Actually its the scattered philosophies of the hindus that is old. There were a number of sects that were brought under one banner much later to differentiate them from the muslim invaders first and the christian invaders later.

Why? You know you get that tingle in your pants when you watch the songs and dance.

LOL

To be just down and dirty honest, I don't think that anyone is going to change their opinion of the Hindu religion because of this movie.
For one thing the olny people who will see it are 14 year old boys.
Mike Myers movies have very limited appeal.

Perhaps you missed the story elsewhere on Huffpo about GWB doing his "Dr Evil" impersonation.

Yeah, those "Shrek" movies don't stand a chance.

The Shrek movies are an exception to the abysmal, mean spirited shit Myers serves up, one, because those movies are a triumph of ensemble work, and two, we hear Myers but don't see him.

We should not allow anything that offends anyone. If offends me that you say that.
Have the "little people" called for a ban?
As a Canadian, I take offense of him making light of hockey. No one should be allowed to joke about hockey.

I was "lucky" to have seen a preview for this piece of garbage. They couldn't manage to find a funny bit to put in the preview. It made the new Sandler movie look like comic genius!!!
I think the group needs to stop sweating the small stuff when there's so much going on in the world to actually be worried about but I also hope they manage to get this stinker banned.
