Lieberman

Think Progress:

On right-winger Bill Bennett's radio show this morning, Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) expressed his openess to bombing Iran, saying that there is "an appeal to it." Discussing the West Virginia primary results, Bennett praised what he claimed was Sen. Hillary Clinton's (D-NY) transformation into his "style" of politician, which he said is someone who "throws down a shot of liquor and bombs Iran."

Lieberman whole-heartedly endorsed the "appeal" of the hawkish caricature Bennett had created:

part 2

I understand that Ahmadinejad has said some terrible things about the state of Israel, and has even tried to deny the holocaust, yet many Jews live in Iran and are afforded full rights of citizenship, and anti-semitism has never been a part of Iranian culture, unlike in Europe and Russia.

Certainly if the Israeli / Palestinian issue were resolved equitably, Iran and 22 Arab states would no longer have a problem with Israel - they have all said as much. But instead of doing the hard work to make that happen, Bush and CO. decide to virtually ignore this problem, and then only offer a half-assed solution that doesn't even address the concerns the democratically elected representatives of the Palestinian people!

So why do we continue to demonize and scare the Iranians? What would be so terrible in reaching understanding and accommodations with them? While I certainly would not want to live in a theocracy, that does not mean others should not, and if the people of Iran don't want to live in a theocracy, it is for them to decide how they want to live in their own country.

I think that Hillary showed her true colors with her "obliterate" statement. We need to move away from the warmongering, and field the best, largest army of diplomats we can muster and sit down and make the deal already, and start acting like the super power that we are!

The Iranians helped us in fighting the Taliban and AlQuaida in Afghanistan and their reward was that Bush called them part of the axis of evil. That badly undermined the moderates who were fighting for control of the country against the hard liners.
The reality is that Al Quaida is our enemy, not Iran. The Iranians are Shiites, who AlQuaida considers to be infidels. With proper diplomacy there is a very good chance that Iran could be turned into an ally against AlQuiada.

The U.S. wants to control the Oil and Gas Deposits in Iran to add to the Oil deposits in Iraq. The U.S. wants to cripple China's economic development.
Russia and China might have something to say about that thought. There will be blood if we attack Iran.

Lieberman has basically turned into Ariel Sharon. He's willing to say anything or take any action which he sees as tangentially improving Israel's tactical position no matter how reckless it may be. Supporting Israel is one thing, but encouraging another unprovoked war is a different matter. I think it's time for him to heed the call and pack his bags for Tel Aviv.

Joe is showing how desperate he is because senses that there is very little time left to bomb Iran. He knows that Obama is the only honorable candidate and would never stand for warcrimes. This is the question: Will the Mossad disguise itself as Iran and attack America? Then Bush can claim that he has to cancel the elections to "protect" us. No one knows.

This guy is absolutely out of his mind. He should take a good hard look at the (people) numbers in that region, because bombing Iran will open up a can of worms that will make the last major locust invasion look like a small Halloween trick. Talk about stupid.

The Lieberboy, besides being downright ugly, a treacherous snake, a money grubbing egocentric, and a trator, a dye in the wool right wing Israeli Likudnik, is one sick mother. Will the Dems, after taking a strong majority in the Senate, completely disown this vile and horrible excuse for a human being? Were they the white, hard working, marginally educated men of Connecticut who elected this dork into the Senate? Only time will tell whether he is completely marginalized.

I'm still waiting for someone to ask Obama how he as president would respond to an Iranian nuclear attack on Israel, which was the question to which Sen. Clinton responded.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 09:22 PM on 05/14/2008

and I hope that obama responds with:

"well, that's an unrealistic scenario. iran would never use nukes on israel, because they know israel has the bomb. if they wanted to wipe out israel, they know that they would also be wiping out themselves. Iran does not have a death wish."

he could elaborate nicely on that, I am just getting to the gist.

Thank you! These false arguments in justification for a war with Iran are just their to rally the uninformed and fearful.

The reason that you are still waiting is that you are not paying attention.

Obama has been asked this and has made it clear that if Israel were subjected to nuclear attack he would retaliate.

But then, you don't actually want to actually hear the answer, do you?

Frankly dear I do not give a damn about Israel when there are so many serious issues in my own country such as ending Illegal Wars, Economy, Poverty, No Health Care system and etc...........

Israel has enough Nukes, Funds paid by US Tax Payers, Arms supplied by US Government.............. it can take care of itself.

P.S. Who said Iran is attacking Israel???!!!!!!

Well for the mere fact that Israel has 200 warheads and Iran has'nt thats a neat trick.

Israel would wipe Iran off the map. Think about it: Why does Israel never have problems with airport security of hijackings on their grounds, in the middle of all that madness? Israel can take care of itself very well. The only thing the U.S. would need to do is stand back and play referee, make sure Syria and the rest of the clowns down start ambushing Israel from behind. If it's 1 vs. 1, Israel obliterates all of those states. So the question about bombing Iran -- which would require approval of Congress -- is a moot one and only serves to inflame and grandstand.

"Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) expressed his openess to bombing Iran, saying that there is "an appeal to it."

I completely agree with you that Lieberman is "another dangerous "over the hill" NUT CASE...willing to take this country to TOTAL RUIN for his "Israel Political Agenda". It is horrifying to me that such cavalier statements are made about attacking another nation - again. Our nation obviously did not learn from Vietnam. We have obviously learned nothing from the Iraq debacle. How many "empires" have met with their own destruction after their leadership kept the "empire" in constant war until all the nation's resources were plundered? Britain could tell a tale; so could Russia; so could France...and this is just recent history. The Roman Empire didn't do so well, and this is certainly not the only tale of failed attempts at empire throughout the history of civilization. The neocons and Liebermans of the nation demonstrate a lack of concern that the path of war they insist we as a nation take is one of our own destruction, as well. An American "empire" is just an illusion; a "monster" like that will never endure.

He was talking about the appeal of the tough new Hillary image, not specifically bombing Iran.

And... even if that is completely accurate, you are still defending him? Even if what you say is true, he still deserves to be criticized for indicating THAT.

Joe Lieberman is endangering Americans and American soldiers in Iraq with repeated comments like these. I do not appreciate Joe Lieberman trying to make "Bomb Iran" into the next MSM sound-byte for the world to hear. Someone needs to brief Joe on the current state of the union - the real one - you know boring stuff like the other wars, jobs & the economy . Connecticut here's a clue - pick the other guy next time.

Something's up. That's why he is talking like that. If the Mossad disguises itself as Iran and attacks America, we would have to bomb Iran in retaliation. If it's done, that's how it'll be done.

Lieberman is a pathetic disgrace & Democrats should not be pandering to him just to keep him in their caucus. They should emphatically denounce him & force him to join his neocon Republican friends, who obviously share his views. - indiethinker
