Cross

CBN's David Brody reports on a new Obama flyer in Kentucky showing the candidate in front of a large illuminated cross:

I have been telling Brody File readers for months that if Barack Obama becomes the Democratic nominee he will make a pitch to win over independent/moderate Evangelicals. Well, we now have evidence. ...

In Kentucky, he is making a direct appeal to Evangelicals with flyers that mention his conversion experience and they highlight a big old cross. Remember Mike Huckabee's supposed subliminal cross in his Christmas campaign ad? Well, the Obama campaign ditches the subliminal and goes for the in your face cross.

Here's a small version of the ad -- the full version is here:

Race42008.com's Doug Forrester, who obtained the flyer, writes:

Supposedly Barack Obama's not playing for Kentucky. You could have fooled me. He's got 16 offices in the state next to Hillary's 5. Hillary has no office west of Louisville. Barack Obama's offices go from the West Virginia border to the Mississippi River. I visited one of Barack's offices today. ...

This is how Obama is appealing to Kentuckians. I had just finished doing an undisclosed activity at Church and a friend asked me to check out Barack Obama. I couldn't say no to my Lutheran friend.

So I drive up to the Obama office and I noticed a crudely spray-painted image of Barack Obama and a cross. So my friend and I walked in. A cross on the wall and a tall black man (a Professor of mine) greeted me. Behind him were two elderly ladies wearing crosses.

So they launched into their pitch about how Obama would care for the poor and the "least among these."

He is a christian, so what's wrong with telling people that fact?

Obviously, some folks still think he's a muslim, and aren't voting for him because of it. That is a problem he needs to address, so he is doing so.

Speaking as an Agnostic, I think I am one of the few people who can be neutral on religion. He needs to do this. He needs to play up his beliefs. He needs most of the Hillary vote come November and this will help. That13% who STILL think he is a Muslim, says to me that twice that many think he MAY be. And these are the kind of folks for whom that will matter. I don't care which religion he is, as long as it's not one of those I think insanity is a prerequisite, like Scientology, as I hold all the major ones in equal contempt, but many of those Hillary voters care VERY much.

I guess you have to do a certain amount of ass kissing or you will end up like Kucinch, Paul, or Nader.
Lots of good ideas but no votes. It's unfortunate but neccesary.

Since the media has decided to crown Obama the victor before the votes are counted, I have tried to turn my Obama dislike around for the good of the party. First of all, his vitriolic supporters calling the people of West Virginia (a state every Dem since 1916 has needed for victory) racists and educated for choosing HRC was very disturbing. I am sure that 96 percent of African Americans voted on solely on the issues and everything (sarcasm), but it is more than probable that the vast majority of people in WV think she is superior. Then Obama confuses the Arabic spoken in Iraq with the dialects in Afghanistan and after correcting himself, makes another gaffe on their industry composition. The latter is no biggie, the former shows that Obama has no idea of the importance and scope of the many local translators we have in the field, many of whom risk their life to work with the US. He also added 7-10 states to the union. His campaign says he is tired, but Hillary is fourteen years his senior and going strong. The presidency is not easy, I don't want to see him fading now when he has a recession and two wars to mange come January. Now this ad disgusts me TO THE CORE. I want my politics far away from religion. This man is way too God-happy, just like W. Democratic Party=over. Time for a American Labor Party that actually represents the people.

Way to cheery pick your "issues." (1) Obama is the victor because he ran a better campaign, period. (2) Way to paint a whole group of supporters with one brush while saying they did the same to a whole block of voters, (3) Clinton chalked up her tall tale of coming under sniper fire to campaign fatigue!!! Which is worse? Making up delusional episodes whole clothe or a slip of the tongue on a number? (4) Re: Arabic: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/5/15/91623/5067/584/516062. (5) You want your politics far away from religion? Find another country because, right or wrong, religion has been embedded in our country's national politics since it's inception. We have "In God We Trust" on our frickin' currency! I'm not saying I like it either, but, once again, something suddenly is Obama's "fault" or failing while you refuse to hold that same mirror up to all.

Uh most of the votes HAVE been counted, that's why not only has the MSM crowned him the nominee, but he is very very close to being the nominee.

Being born in WV, I can tell you that if 60% of the WV voters that did not vote for Obama would be honest with you, they would tell you they did not vote for him because he is black.

Thank You for finally telling the truth. MSM is trying to characterize Obama's " problem "with rural white America, as if they don't know. Perhaps to say the "most" of rural white America is just plain prejudice, would set off too many alarms. However, rural white America is the land of open KKK membership, rural white America is where they tie a black man to a truck and drag him for miles as a form of entertainment, rural white America is where a man could be tied to a tree in a desert and left to die, because he was gay. Rural white America looks at Barack Obama as a black man, even though TECHNICALLY, he is no more black than he is white. Rural white America for the most part, has a limited view of the world.

Rural white America is for those of us who do not live in rural America: "The Last Frontier".
We need to assist these people who are more or less victims of generations of hate and bigotry, to understand that to allow other people (even those who look , think, and act different than yourselves) to shine their light, does not diminish your own. People who look, think, and act different than you are not necessarily your enemy,
Nothing is to be lost, if the person next to you or across the tracks has light to shine, all it really does it make it better for all of us to see...The Truth.

Second not all of Obama's supporters said the WV people were racist and un-educated. I am an Obama supporter and I don't know anyone in WV. Didn't Hillary say about the same thing herself--she gets the white voters--sounds racist to me!! I don't hold against Hillary what her supporters on forums and blogs say. If I did then I would really be upset because I have read where ALOT of them say very racially charged things. One supporter stated they should take that black boy and hang him from a tree--that is really bad...Now as for Obama getting the number of states wrong and his campaign saying he is tired--it was ok when Hillary lied because she was tired. Or that was her excuse and Bill's excuse for her. Then there was the times during a debate when she didn't know the name of the guy taking over Putin place....and how about the times she stated MI and FL votes don't count but changed her mind on that when she got so far behind she couldn't win with them--rules she agreed to....how about her pormising New Yorkers 250,000 added jobs and actually costing them the loss of 30,000 jobs--so if you want to "NOT" like Obama because of petty things--go ahead but at least be fair....I can give you more info if you want it--like the Peter Paul vs Clinton trial set to start soon

No no no no. Do not mistaken the MSM for Obama supporters. The over 90,000 WV voters that voted for Obama and even those that voted for HRC are not all "un-educated" and "poor" . Did you listen to the voice mail left for one of those WV voters by HRC's campaign staff?

I'm really disappointed that Obama is using this kind of imagery for his campaign. All he needs to do is focus on the issues and let the people decide. This flyer makes him look like some sort of a religious crusader.

He used this way back in Pennsylvania, it was NOT just made for Kentucky!
He has probably used them in every state!
I wished we had real journalists who would do background, and investigations....
BEFORE CBN's David Brody writes some "breaking" story about a new religious path of a candidate!
This is SOOOO "yesterday"...
as yesterday as Pennsylvania is....in campaign schedules!
Where have all the "journalists" gone?

I understand what you are saying, but I think the point of the ad is to show many of these voters that he is not a Muslim. I believe areas like Kentucky have been bombarded with information saying he is a Muslim and not a Christian and unfortunatly you have a great deal of people that will cast a vote against him for that reason alone.

You know the political reality is many believe the rumor that Sen. Obama is not Christian the only way to combate that is with the truth . John Kennedy also had to address similiar issue. I really do not like religion and politics mixed but here facts are important

He has to hit people over the head with the Truth when idiotic Lies (courtesy of the Father of Lies aka the GOP) about him being a Muslim are still circulating like mad. I've got no problem with it.

When you have uneducated people STILL saying that Obama is a Muslim, etc. the flyer is a good idea. How clear can it get to some people? If they can't figure it out after that, then they are just brainless.

Sadly due to the way this country is it has to be done. However like in WV you'll still have people that think he's lying and really is Muslim. The very fact that is looked at as a negative makes me sick though.

He didn't use it in Colorado - we had our majority of guilty whites who were religiously inspired and relieved to get (as Bill Maher said) their 'first black friend'.

My caucus had 2000 people - there was one black guy.

This charade is not the triumph those of us fought for in the sixties. The idea was to have black power be represented by legitimate people - not a black version of ever slimy Chicago pol.

What Obama has done is sickening.

No mention in the piece about how, unlike every other frickin' candidate to have ever run, Obama has to fight against an on-going smear that he's muslim! And that a sizeable potion of the electorate believe it! Not to mention that the "godlessness" of Democrats has been a point of attack against us for decades. One of The Post's most popular pieces is on how young evangelicals are open to "converting" to our party. How is this a bad thing, to try to welcome them and combat those misconceptions?!?! So tired of the double standard that's always applied to Obama. [Example: Where's McCain & Hillary's stupid flag pins?]

It seems that this comment group is seething with Antiobama bots! Beware the fury of a woman scorn.... Hey, she has no one to blame but herself... she was the darling of the Democratic Establishment, had the biggest head start and the most feared political machinery of any presidential candidate ever. Yet, she lost to a guy with a middle name of Husein, zero initital support and black to boot! This is either the greatest victory ever for a new comer or (if all the negatives you bots claim about him are true) the unmasking of Hillary Clinton as a colossal, incompetent, failure! It's either one or the other my friends, you can't have it both ways!

One Natiion, Under God... with President Obama at the Helm!

It's 2008, and we have a democratic presidential candidate who is running on: I've got the "White vote!". In 1968 that was a risky platform. In 2008 it's ludicrous! I am sorry, but Hillary's policy's will never get passed as president, because she is so divisive. This whole run again in 2012 strategy is an insult. Yes I voted for Bill twice, I would find it difficult to vote for Hillary once. I will never vote for McCain.

Obama should go to Kentucky. I support him totally but you don't give the appearance as those you are writing off people in West Virginia by not trying to get their vote. No wonder he lost so big there. Had I been a voter in that state I probably would have voted for Clinton simply because he gave the appearance of not really caring. He's going to be the president of ALL the people not just selected states!.
