Edwards Delegates Switches To Obama

Edwards Delegates

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 05/23/08 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 01:30 PM ET

UPDATE: Six more Edwards' delegates have signed up with Obama.

So far, one of John Edwards' pledged delegates has switched to Obama:

Joshua Denton of Portsmouth, 26, an Iraq war veteran, says he thinks that both Obama and Hillary Clinton would be a better president than Republican nominee John McCain. He thinks that Obama is the change the country needs, along with having the best chance of beating McCain in the general election.

"My fear with Hillary was just because she is who she is -- for better or worse -- she would sink, not just lose the presidency," but Democrats in Congress, Denton said Wednesday.

Edwards has nineteen total delegates, who are now essentially superdelegates. It has to be expected, though, that the endorsement by their candidate will sway the minds of these eighteen remaining delegates.

This is very good news. Obama is an excellent leader for us.

***“The party bosses are gone,†said Eisinger. “It’s not that the leaders don’t exist. But rather, the political culture that allows a party elder to tap a senior senator on the shoulder and say, ‘It’s time to bow out,’ is gone.â€***

Which is why the old-school machine politicians such as Ed Rendell have worked so hard for Clinton. They fear Obama and reform.

There was NO WAY that Edward was going to support Hillary Clinton, since Edwards hates lobbyists, just like Obama does. Both Obama and Edwards fomr the beginning of the presidential campiagn last year stated clearly that they were AGAINST lobbyists, and wanted them out of Washington.

Almost ALL of the people working on Hillary Clinton's campaign are lobbyists, and worst they are lobbyists who are working for foreign countries, and foreign companies, who have taken away jobs from this country, and away from American workers.
Glover Park, a lobbyist working for Hillary was paid $120,000 to push for a Defense Department job contract to the FRENCH company "Airbus". Jack Quinn, another Hilary lobbyist got over $600,000 from the French company "Airbus", for that same deal.
Mark Penn was receiving money, $300,000 from the country of Columbia, to push through a trade deal, Hillary has been "saying" she is against, By the way let's not forget that Hillary's own greedy husband Bill Clinton also received $800,000 payment from Columbia to push the trade deal as well, also received money from Columbia, Howard Wolfson, as well as Patti Solis Doyle, both lobbyists working with Hillary.
Hillary and the people she works with care MORE about their bank accounts than about the interests of the American people, and Edwards was not going to go against his principles and endorse her. It was NEVER going to happen!!!

Edwards lacks class! He had actually made up his mind the week before, but waited to this week because Obama told him too. This is called dirty dishonest politics. Obama released Edwards yesterday to keep the media away from his landslide loss in West Virginia. As he did with Richardson after the Wright controversy. Edwards just became an Obama puppet!!!
And to add to the dishonesty, they did it in Michigan, after Obama blocked a revote there. Yesterday Obama told Michigan voters he was so sad he was not allowed to campaign there!!! What BS and dishonesty on Obama's part!

IT WAS A SMART MOVE ON OBAMA'S PART. BY THE WAY DON'T BE SUCH A HATER.
12:47 AM on 05/16/2008
It was smart politics. That's how the game is played. And, one more time, he did not block the revote. Hillary turned down the plan Michigan came up with last week. He would have liked to campaign there because when voters get to know him, many of them support him. Now he has to double his efforts there for the general election - not the strategy he would have liked to employ there.

Thank you John Edwards! Thank you visionary Edwards delegates!!!!

Remember, super delegates can change their minds at anytime before the voting in August at the Convention -- the same is true of pledged delegates too (which is really strange)

Obama has not lost a single delegate or SD. Elected delegates are all vetted, to prevent a flip. Only the most ardently loyal are selected. As for Hillary's elected delegates, same thing. All the defections from Hillary's camp were the SDs.

He is not to be underestimated. Look what he's done to the old school Democratic machine that had ordained Hillary as THE candidate.

yep! they can! how much you want to bet any "changes" will be a jump to the winning ship

95% of brothers and sisters are voting Obama because your girl Hillary and your boy Bill kicked us to the curb for the "Hard working white folks vote". I was going to support her and then she and her husband started race baiting. As for his lack of significant wins... How about the Democratic Nomination. Is that big enough for you. The Lady and her husband ran a very poor campaign. You would have thought they were the neophytes rather than Obama. A 30 point lead completely blown. Why? Incompetence, over confidence and arrogance. Obama has run a very good campaign. Plain and simple.
02:24 PM on 05/16/2008
Yes! Someone else saw--and was disgusted by--the Clintons' race-baiting! It turned my stomach only a little more than the media's lack of coverage of it.

HEADS UP Obama supporters!!

Read this piece from RealClearPolitics. It is pretty troublesome - regarding the VP slot:

A Fox analyst. Keep in mind people, the Right will try playing the fear card from every angle. It'll often be concealed well. But fear always smells the same. Ignore it and it ceases to have any power.

Bob Beckel managed Walter Mondale’s 1984 presidential campaign. He is a senior political analyst for the Fox News Channel and a columnist for USA Today.

Thanks for the link! I am not sure what to make of it, though. Do you suppose some super delegates double deal--endorse Obama and then vote VP for Hillary and thereby not offending either side?
09:06 PM on 05/15/2008
As the delegates surge for Obama, McCain woos Hillary democrats. In particular, the women, who feel insulted, belittled, mocked, by the toxic tone of individuals like matthews and olbermann. they are shoving these women toward McCain. McCain has made overtures regarding democrats in his administration and cabinet. He is attracing Hillary's supporters, and attemtping to pull Hillary, herself, toward him. carla fiorini is shoring up his finance cred, and he's in Oregon talking up climate change, appealing to young evangelicals who are organized and passionate. we bask in the shock and awe of every new obama delegate, as mccain executes a carefully designed strategy: frontal assault on security credentials and the war on terror. no attacks since 9/11, etc, using the terrorist card while circling the hillary democrats. Look for an october surprise involving a security threat on the mainland. mccain will then carry New Jersey, Massachusetts, Florida and Ohio. rather than arranging the delegate chairs on the titanic, look to your base, barak. pull hillary closer to you, don't push her away. don't let her exit gracefully, as most of your people want her to do. you need much more from her than that. you need hillary on the ticket. in a matter of ten to fifteen days, she will probably not want it. the window is closing. a substitute woman will not work with her people, and your presidential chances, and our need for a democrat in the white house, will be nothing more than a dream.

Good news for the party. From washingtonpost, Edwards had 28 superdelegates. Nine from the House and 7 from DNC are going to Obama, Clinton got 2 from DNC. Ten are still uncommitted. This thing should be wrapped up by now. We are eager to know who is the VP. Hope not Clinton.

Inslee, Dermott is supporting Obama, does this give you any ideas?

I'm proud that you're my congressman, you do a truly great job. I would be even prouder if you aligned yourself with how 65% of the 1st CD voted.
07:40 PM on 05/15/2008
What are other 12 doing? Why aren't these 7 showing up in any of the counts on either Real-Clear-Politics, or MSNBC or even Obama's own website?
07:56 PM on 05/15/2008
The other 12, maybe waiting until next Tuesday. I believe the total for today is 11.

If he can run the government as well as he's run his campaign, we'll be on the right track.

Oh I just love John Edwards. He's so handsome. This isn't very good news for Hillary, but she's tough. I think her following is women, and you will see a landslide win regardless of who is nominated. Her name will still be on the ticket at the polls election day. Edwards too, I think. In fact I think Al Gore was drafted as a contender.

All those that feel as Michelle Obama so eloquently put it "for the first time I am proud to be an American".

Stand up and say AYE!!

AYE!!
06:22 PM on 05/15/2008
for me, it's not the first time ever, just the first time in a long time (~ 8 years or so). refreshing, isn't it? the world is watching, and waiting, for us to do the right thing...
06:26 PM on 05/15/2008
The feeling that I can describe is - well, hope and faith and like a tremendous burden is being lifted from my shoulders.

This is a burden that Obama will care for us during his Presidency to try to right all the wrongs in this Nation.

President Barack OBAMA!

President BARACK Obama!

PRESIDENT Barack Obama!

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA

Gosh, that has such a nice ring to it I just have to say it again - President Barack Obama!
06:53 PM on 05/15/2008
Why are you picking on Obama's wife? It just seems so cowardly. So classless.

Wow....that was stunning!!!!! I'm not a big Chris Mathews fan but that was impressive. Poor little boy didn't know what hit him. I guess nobody had ever asked him to back up any of the garbage they are so used to spewing. Hope Huff makes this a separate story - people would love to see the clip.
