Senator McCain's speech today gives a timetable for when US troops will leave Iraq if he becomes President. McCain went after former GOP rival Mitt Romney during the Florida primary, claiming his mention of timetables was equivalent to putting defeat into the hands of terrorists. Now the Senator is changing his tune.

Sen. John McCain will pledge today that most American troops will return home from Iraq by 2013 if he is elected president, a position that closely resembles the promises made by both of his potential Democratic rivals.

In a speech here this morning, McCain will say that only a small contingent of troops would remain in Iraq in non-combat roles beyond that date. He predicts that the drawdown will be possible because al Qaeda in Iraq will be defeated and a democratic government will be able to thrive in the war-torn country.

JOHN MCCAIN: "Stand up. We're Americans, we're Americans and we'll never surrender, they will."
Jerk. Wanting to win is one thing, but being political on an issue that has caused the lives of so many is an abomination. I agree with Bush, We must be firm in face of those who murder the innocent, don allow them to run our country.

If I've said it once, I've said it a million times:

"We need our troops here, at home"!!!!!!!!!! We are ill equiped to handle any kind of invasion from another country. It's bad enough that China and India own our debt and Saudi Arabia owns most of the midwest.Bring opur troops home!!!!!!!!!!
We need to take our country back and get these oil whore, war mongers out of here!!!!!!
Please people, use your brains and vote Democratic this time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That anyone would say there ever will be a democratic government in Iraq is enough to prove him too witless or too dishonest to be president of the U.S.
Every day John McCain does or says something that should knock him out of the ring in the eyes and hearts of all Americans. I wonder if that is happening.
Certainly, in this case of his outright lying, because he feels support slipping through his fingers based on his lunatic "staying in Iraq for 100 years" stance, the voters should yell "foul."
His goals at heart are the continued killing of Americans and Iraqis and the dissolution of Social Security and Medicare.
Oh, yeh, we really need a destructive old liar like him in power.

He's not losing his mind nor is he senile, he has simply and finally come to understand that both Republican and Democrats want this war over and he wants to be elected so he will say anything and do anything to get elected. Be warned he is lyiing. he will continue the war and escalate it if he is elected President. It's what he knows. It's all he knows and he doesn't know it all that well.

Does he mean the Iraq war that was supposed to be over in 6 months? The one that would cost $70 million, that the Iraqi oil would pay for? And did I miss the big parade where we were greeted as liberators? The war where the Iraq security was going to stand up and we would stand down? The war that was declared 'Mission Accomplished" years ago? The war that was going to make Iraq a bastion of Democracy? The war where the 'surge' worked? (by paying 100,000 former Insurgent terrorists $300 a month to fight next to US troops whose friends and comrades they had been blowing up and killing prior to getting a handout from Uncle Sam). Forgive me if I don't believe anything that comes out of your mouth when your lips start moving, Senator. Your track record speaks for itself.

you'd think we'd all (including the republicans) be experts on bait and switch at this point, seeing how it's been Bushes strategy and MO since proposing the damn war.
Oh, sure, we'll be out of Iraq just after I get re-elected.
Good one.
Almost as good as "weapons of mass destruction", "greeted as liberators", "in it's last throws", "give the surge a chance to work", "Wait for the Petraeus report"...
Fool us 500 times, shame on me. Fool me again... Go ahead, Fool me again.
thank you sir, may I have another?

Sounds like a plan for his re-election campaign assuming voters are fooled by his flip flopping lies to elect him in the first place.

What a panderer. And by the way lets all hope Obama places a nice ad about the Pandering McCain, with his flip flops all over the place.
Americans have woken up and we WILL KICK THE BUMS OUT OF OFFICE.
McCain not only is trying to run from the Republican Party, but now he is running away from himself!
He and his minions are on a sinking ship, and they are running away from the Repub party like rats jumping off a sinking ship.

Obama is suddenly wearing an American flag lapel pin darling, so the pandering seems to be on all sides. It's politics as usual.

This is really great news!!! After only a mere four more years of war too!!! John McCain, you are my hero!!! You and George Bush, that is. Of course, things could go wrong in the interim. We have to be prepared for that, after all we're dealing with terrists, and terrists never quit, and they never will win unless we quit. As long as our boys are over there and the terrists keep attacking them, I guess we'll just have to stay there. Because if we quit the terrists will win, and terrists never will quit. You follow all this? You want to be safe from terrists, don't you? You don't want them to get the oil do you? God bless George Bush and his annointed successor John McCain!!! Keep Amurica Strong!!! Go get that oil!!! Help our contractors, sub contractors, grafters, and war profiteers!!! Go Team!!!

Yo Tony - If you could write half as much as you seem to whine, perhaps many of us in the world with high-school diplomas would listen. Misspellings, redundency and misuse of the English language would seem to be a criteria before posting and showing off your idiocy, not only for your misbegotten sense that you have communicated with the American people but your complete unawareness of the rape of America by the GOP. I guess you aren't able to read above the third-grade level or you would be aware of the ramifications of supporting the war-mongering and the hatred of people who own the oil - would you allow an invasion of the good ol' US of A?

The panders cotinue with Mc Cain. There's hardly a stand he hasn't changed in the past eight years. I have a lot more respect for someone who sticks to a few of his guns than one who sticks his fingers in the polls and changes his mind. Any Democrats who state they will vote for McCain rather than vote for the Dem candidate they didn't support during the primary must be losing their collective minds! Let's worry about our cognitive and critical thinking skills, not John McCain's!

I am not a cut-and-runner. We cannot embolden the enemy. We have to have complete victory in Iraq. Surrender is not an option. Timetables equal defeat. Those who support timetables support the terrorists. Iran is training Al Qaeda in Iraq. I mean sectarian extremists. If we don't fight them over there we'll have to fight them over here. Henny penny the sky is falling. Six days; six weeks; I doubt six months. We will be greeted as liberators. There's Al Qaeda in my soup. Al Qaeda in my mailbox. My God, they're in my shorts.

What was that? Oh, yes. Timetable. We must have a timetable. Joe, you said timetable right?

This is fun. What will we be tomorrow? I Can't wait.

It's about time the the US realizes that we don't own the world. What gives us, or more appropriately, our government, the right to tell other people that there land, and what is under it is vital to our national security and thus we have the right to it? The middle east is a big desert with scattered oasis's. Our addiction to the oil, not just from that region, is killing the planet. As far as I'm concerned, if Iran wants to control the middle east, (which I don't believe they do, despite the constant propaganda from the government and the right wing media) then they are more than welcome to it. Maybe they can actually produce peace in the region, because it is clear from the recent history going back more than thirty years, that the US can't do it! The US has no business being there. The US has no business telling the people there how they must live their lives. If the candidates were really interested in promoting peace in the region, and, for that matter, in any other part of the world, then a law should be passed that says the US and any company/corporation that does ANY business in the US may not do business in countries that are oppressive/authoritarian. This is aimed at our own behavior. The supply of oil would quickly dry up, creating a crisis and then real innovation would happen and we might solve our oil dependency.
