Senator McCain's speech today gives a timetable for when US troops will leave Iraq if he becomes President. McCain went after former GOP rival Mitt Romney during the Florida primary, claiming his mention of timetables was equivalent to putting defeat into the hands of terrorists. Now the Senator is changing his tune.

Sen. John McCain will pledge today that most American troops will return home from Iraq by 2013 if he is elected president, a position that closely resembles the promises made by both of his potential Democratic rivals.

In a speech here this morning, McCain will say that only a small contingent of troops would remain in Iraq in non-combat roles beyond that date. He predicts that the drawdown will be possible because al Qaeda in Iraq will be defeated and a democratic government will be able to thrive in the war-torn country.

This is a very shallow observation, I admit it but.....this man does not look presidential at all in this picture.

Of course he's flip-flopping. This war is unpopular amd McSame is the worse kind of panderer. Maverick no more. I wonder if he means it.

What I want to know is just WHO will be these mythical non-combat people McCain keeps talking about that will be staying in Iraq after the troops leave? What exactly will they be doing other than keeping an evacuation chopper at arms length 24/7?

Just stoopid, uninformed, pie-in-the-sky rhetoric from the neocons.

McCain the flip-flopper -- whatever gets him votes -- but who will really believe him after all he's said so far. Iran is still out there and one of his options -- why can't they all see that we have handed the Middle East to Iran on a silver platter....all that unrest feeds right into them. I would say that Iran is probably secretly backing McCain!

I can't believe McBush level of ignorance...he really thinks the we The People of United States of America are so stupid to believe a word of what is saying... lately....all of a sudden, is a champion of the enviroment, he set a timetable for the troop withdraw, is going to kill Bin Laden and bunch of other lies. MY FRIEND.. just accept the reality that the American People, in November will crush you and your party in a way that will be remembered as one of the most defining moment in our history. You can vomit lies as you like but you will never, never erase the bloodstains of this war that has claimed 4000 plus lives of some of the best sons and daughters of this Great Country and tens of thousand innocent Iraqi people. Do not forget that you, GWB and his gang of criminals have attacked a sovereign Country without any proof of involvement in the 9/11 tragedy. And guess what.. if they attack us again, will be your fault because I am sure that in this long 8 years, somewhere in the mountains of Pakistan/afghanistan border, Bin Laden is been planning his next move and it will be not pretty!

McCain WILL win in November. Obama can't stop stepping on his own dork. Working class Americans are not flocking to the Obama Express, and without them, he'll LOSE.

....and you, if you have any children, get ready to send them to die for another useless war. If you have a car get ready to pay $10 a gallon. If you have a job, get ready to loose it because it will be shipped in India, If you have a house get ready to loose it because with no car and no job you cannot pay the mortgage. If your daugher is raped and pregnant get ready to be grandpa. If you get sick better be sure to be able to afford the rising cost of insurance. O maybe you do not care because you lucky enough not to care for any of the above. What is the moral justification to vote again for 4 more years of failure leadership? Maybe you do not have any moral after all...I feel for you pathetic republican.

Not unless he pulls off another Bush corrupt the vote plan. There aren't enough Republican's out there to vote for McCain .Have you seen how many new Democrat voters voted in these primaries .
Republican's are not only disliked for the way they have ruined the economy kept us in a never ending war ,lost their morals and support torturing people .,they are in the minority so unless they have a plan to rob this election they won't even come close to winning.Look at how many Republican states have now turned Democrat ,,how many more Democrat congressman and Senators replaced Republican's in the elections. You had your chance for 16 long years and you gave us trillions of dollars of debt.Conservative my Butt what is so conservative of putting your country in trillions of dollars in debt with a war you had no reason to start with a sovereign country.

Love it, Bob! Great humor. After Crash tromps on his own member...yet again...his 'supporters' attempt to transpose Crash's inability to think, or talk, straight onto his opponent.

Crash is not only going to lose, his political career is going to be over. Hell, I have relatives in Tucson who have been longtime supporters of Crash and they are, carefully, backing away from this ticking time bomb...

Senator McCain has flip-flopped on Bush's tax cuts, did an about-face on his opinion of Jerry Falwell, and apparently embraced the apocalyptic visions of John Hagee and Rod Parsley (in contrast to Senator Obama, who quickly denounced Jeremiah Wright's outrageous assertions).

Mr. McCain has given us no reason to believe his change of position on Iraq is genuine. He predicates troop withdrawals on a rather nebulous definition of "victory", which pretty much means if he were elected there could still be 150,000 or more American troops in Iraq in the year 2012 and that would in no way contradict the position he laid out today. His speech also does not address the role that mercenaries on the American payroll would continue to play in Iraq. In other words, it was a political speech in which he offered no real substantive change in his real position.

amen! Glad you brought the Mercenaries which are always under the table. If we even knew the half of it....

Really? From the pundits who have gotten everything from showering us with flowers to WMDs to troop body and vehicle armor wrong, comes the next great leader through this morass to proclaim “we’ll be done by 2013 because they’ll be showering us with the scent of their democracy and the Al Qaeda that wasn’t there when we got there, will be vanquished!”

The only reason these guys want out of Iraq is to have enough troops to get into Iran and that’s not a reason at all—that’s just a exponential growth of the current stupidity.

If people vote for this hallucinogenic prophet, I want whatever it is they’re taking because it’s got to be some pretty good shit.

Yet another McCain Quatrain from McNostradamus:
a. "By January 2013, America has welcomed home most of the servicemen and women who have sacrificed terribly so that America might be secure in her freedom. The Iraq War has been won. Iraq is a functioning democracy..."

b. "There's going to be other wars, I'm sorry to tell you this, there's going to be other wars".

McNostradamus, please tell us the WHO, WHERE and WHEN about each of these wars you are promising or predicting!!!

- So, let me be the first to offer our sincerest, heart felt apologies in advance to the rest of the world, if this con becomes the president.
