Senator McCain's speech today gives a timetable for when US troops will leave Iraq if he becomes President. McCain went after former GOP rival Mitt Romney during the Florida primary, claiming his mention of timetables was equivalent to putting defeat into the hands of terrorists. Now the Senator is changing his tune.

Sen. John McCain will pledge today that most American troops will return home from Iraq by 2013 if he is elected president, a position that closely resembles the promises made by both of his potential Democratic rivals.

In a speech here this morning, McCain will say that only a small contingent of troops would remain in Iraq in non-combat roles beyond that date. He predicts that the drawdown will be possible because al Qaeda in Iraq will be defeated and a democratic government will be able to thrive in the war-torn country.

Anyone who believes anything McCain says at this date is simply blinded by the light. He is definintely Bush in the flesh. I will not believe a word from his soft spoken mouth, period. He is like someone else I know, they always look at the polls then base their conversations/speeches on what they think Americans want to hear.

I am tire of the same old same, year after year, election after election. I am going to try something new, fresh, capable, and shows integrity.

Obama 2008

The bombs should have been dropped in a sparsely populated area and a warning sent them to surrender or else. Why kill thousands of innocent people just like we did in Nam and are doing now in the middle east. We are a war mongering nation ALLMOST all republicans and quite a few dems.We are and have been shameful and God will judge us.

Did anyone catch the underline message here? War will be won by 2013? and I read somewhere McCain is to be a one term president. So, what is he telling us? and not telling us?

He still didn't define victory, no repub ever defines victory, and the press accepts his war mongering nonsense, and puts him on a pedestal for being a war hero and a straight talker. I think I'm gonna puke.

The old McCain: Setting a deadline merely emboldens our enemies and demoralizes our troops.
The New McCain: We’ll be out of Iraq by 2013.
The Real McCain: We’ll fiddle around in Iraq for four more years, then I’ll order a drawdown, declare Mission Accomplished and ask you to reelect me. Cost to the US taxpayers: $720 Million per day times 4 years = $1,534,752,000,000,000 more than if we fire the Republicans and end their war profiteering.

McCain will just deny his own words later.

Every reporter who encounters McCain should be ready with video proof of particular quotes. The floppy hat doesn't do much for the brass balls image. The only thing worse was Dukakis in that tank.

McCain's speech was rather 'dull', though his tax cutting ideas warrant futher investigation. The litany of generic policy approaches for his first term would have a tough time in a 2nd Democratically Led Do Nothing 111th Congress. Cutting taxes would definitely be DOA before the House or Senate took up discussions. His outlook for Iraq would also get the cold shoulder, though his hunting down of OBL and his ilk would garner much support, being a figure head IMAGE and all. And we know how big DEMS are on IMAGE issues. With a DEM Congress, pretty much all his 1st Term issues would be null and void. To get anything done, he'll have to govern from the LEFT. Too bad.

Ah, so nice to see a member of our nations 'dead-enders' (ie. someone who still identifies as Republican and thinks Bush is doing a bang-up job) posting on the HuffPo.

Trust me, after the Dems wipe up the Thugs this election and Barack gets sworn in, you'll wish the 111th congress was 'do-nothing', because they will finally pass the legislation necessary to get this country moving forward again. Your only prayer will be that the Dems fail to get their 60 senators and the Thugs go for full-on filibuster of everything.

As with Don's 'deadenders', we just keep ticking...........

And praytell, what legislation is that? Tax increases, more deficit spending?????

I survived Jimmy 'I love Dictators and Thugs' Carter. I can survive any DEM Presidential Pretender like Obama. And so will the country. After 4 years of 'screwing the pooch', he'll be gone just like Carter.

Typical Republican Presidential promise - The timetable kicks in after they leave office.

John McCain will lead us into War in Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan and - to quote him - right to the gates of hell. It is interesting how suddenly John McCain believes in Global Warming, Wants to help the middle class, wants to create jobs, fund education, etc. etc. Why have these issues not been important to him in the last 26 years?

No doubt many Americans will vote for McCain because they fear a black President more than they do their own economic destruction. Hopefully, most Americans have higher IQs than the nearly illiterate mountain people of West Virginia.

You, of course, have a high I.Q. don't you? I would like to buy you for what you are truly worth and sell you for what you think you're worth. I would have the 8.5 billion dollar war chest Soros has to force Obama down the throats of the American people. If Obama is as wonderful as you indicate, why do the Democrats have to buy the Presidency for him. As a registered Democrat for fifty-three years, a matter of public record in the State of Oregon, I refuse to contribute to any candidate. A qualified individual should be able to secure the office on his or her own merit and accomplishments to date. Speaking of I.Q., did any questions come into your mind when Obama said he had campaigned in 57 states? I thought not, because he is black and a Democrat and who you are pulling for. If Obama is proud of being black how does he feel about being half white?

The funny thing is....you started out so strong. Then, like your candidates Hillary/McCain, you took a left turn and headed towards silly season. Why? What purpose did your post even serve? Do you feel better now, that you got all of that off your chest? Maybe FAUX NEWS and Bill O'Racist haven't come on full throtle yet for the day? Is it too early?

Senator,
From the very ashes of the dead a cry remains unanswered. Where is their country? Where are the brave words spoken by you and your party to avenge the dead of 9/11? Eight long years later and still we have no answer to their cry. While you and the war mongers of your damn party have lined their pockets, 4000 service men and women have had their precious lives wasted, and for what? Bin Laden still sits happily in Pakistan, and your party does nothing by harp on Iraq, and now Iran. All the children without moms and dads, what words do you have for them? How many of them will soon be grown and forever scared by you and your damn party? What cost to all of this? Our nation now faces a hard and terrible future because of the people your party is so damn glad to protect sit in Saudi Arabia, busy counting money. No Senator, not another month in Iraq, much less another five years. To say that you and your party have gone insane with power only scratches the surface of the blight that you are, and the harm you all have done in the past and into the future. Only Nixon could put forward such an evil, twisted and malignant proposal. We the people have suffered enough from your failed dreams of glory and conquest. You and your party will forever be remembered for what you have done, and could not do.

Actually, Nixon - may he burn in Hell for all eternity - was more successful with the withdrawal of troops from Vietnam in a timely fashion. McCain's timetable extends our involvement far longer than what it was once Nixon came into office. Nixon also accomplished more in international diplomacy than McCain is even capable of doing.

I just can't believe a word this man says. I know if this man is President you can get ready because we're going to war with Iran and he is going to bring the draft back because you've got to have troops to fight in these wars.

Why haven't I heard McCain say he will go after Bin Laden since Bin Laden is responsible for over 3000 Americans losing their lives on US soil, so are we just to forget about Bin Laden and everything he has done?, this is the one we should have went after in the first place.
