Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign is trying to tap a new audience of potential voters by taking his campaign message straight to liberal and nonpolitical issues-based blogs, which reach millions of readers but don't often delve into conservative politics.

The strategy was in full swing yesterday when Mr. McCain invited non-conservative bloggers to join his regular blogger conference call, just hours after he delivered a major speech previewing his war strategy and other priorities for a first presidential term.

If the 'TLeague of Democracies' doesn't work
out, there's always the 'League of Planets'.

He's got to reach out to liberals/progressives. Who
else will establish his 'League of Democracies'?

Gail Collins in today's NYT:

'The most intriguing part of the McCain vision is the League of Democracies. This is his plan for a planetary alliance of economically powerful, democratically governed nations whose leaders would work together to protect human rights and combat terrorism. The proper policy response, no doubt, is: what about the United Nations? But all I really want to know is: will there be uniforms?

Jan. 1, 2013: President McCain celebrated the multitudinous achievements of his first four years in office with special friends in the White House. The tiny American contingent of troops still stationed in Iraq joined the festivities by satellite from a golf course in Baghdad, where they have been spending their time since the war was won.

Members of the League of Democracies opened the New Year"s ceremony with their pledge to "fight a never-ending battle for truth, justice and the small-d-democratic way." Wearing their colorful terrorism-fighting costumes were French President Nicolas Sarkozy, now better known to the planet by his nom de guerre of Pâté Man, and Germany"s green-haired Angela (EcoGirl) Merkel, accompanied as always by her sidekick, Icy the Polar Bear. Silvio Berlusconi of Italy wore a business suit, but still wowed the crowd with his trademark power of shooting molten-gold bullion at his assailants.'

'Will there be uniforms?'

Is Chewbacca not a Wookiee? Is Spock not a Vulcan? Is Worf not a Klingon?

Go Ahead - ask him...what in the world is an INTERNATIONAL Republican?

He's the president of them:

I've told McCain once and I've told him twice...

He is bound by his words, literally.
He can't get out of it.
Like a Chinese finger puzzle.

Ok, Senator McCain, explain how doubling the national
debt under Bush worked for US, and how you doing the
same is going to work even better.

John McCane should forget about trying to win voters from liberal blogs, and instead concentrate on winning his own base.

exactly!
he's going to have a hard time getting the Conservative Base to back him
and it's futile to attempt to get Libs to back him.

but if he wants to hear my opinion, I'd be happy to share it with him
(even though a lady should not speak in such nasty terms)

I have a message for him.

The reason that McCain is reaching out to the liberal Blogers is that both H.Clinton and McCain are controled by the same puppet-master LIE-berman and that is where H. Clinton hard core base is these are the most likley to vote for McCain if H.Clinton is not the one.

We all already know people who will vote for McCain if Clinton isnt' the nominee. And people who wouldn't have voted if Obama hadn't been nominated. And people who will vote for any Democrat and people who would NEVER vote for a Democrat. If McCain were to post something here, for instance, it probably wouldn't make anyone change their minds. The only thing we might learn is how mature and polite HuffPo readers can be (or not be).

Sen. McCain should be encouraged to talk. The more he says, the more people will be repulsed by what he says. He has flipped and flopped so far to the right of the issues of the day, that he no longer makes much sense. The best he can do is talk in very broad generalities, saying that at the end of HIS presidency, all of our problems will be fixed. Sure, John, but we already bought the Brooklyn Bridge from the last Republican to run for office.

Sure, John, come on over and post at Huffington. We'll give you a cheery liberal blog site welcome. We'll even send the moderators off to a movie that day, so we can have a real heart-to-heart.

Come on, John! We don't bite! We just ask questions. And cite references. And cross-check statements. And call out bs-ers. Let's have a little party, John.

McCain is going to co-opt the liberal bloggers like he has done the main stream media who don't challenge McCain's foreign policy and national security mistakes - it will work because McCain is only reaching out to the liberal bloggers who have already bought into the "straight talking maverick" myth of McCain.

"McCain is only reaching out to the liberal bloggers who have already bought into the straight talking maverick myth" ???

So who might that be? As a mathematician, I have to label that group as the EMPTY SET.

if he's reaching out to liberal blogs i hope he's ready to have his arm bitten off.

In spite of all the compromises he has made in the last 7 years he still thinks he's the same person who ran in 2000. It's sad really, how out of touch he is with who he has become.

The people commenting, continue to underestimate McCain. If you simply dismiss him, you will lose. consider him a very viable threat to the Democrats. Lose sleep worrying about what he will do next.

To stop him, you need to understand the threat he poses. If you simply write him off as old, etc. you will get blind sided. This article started to expose one of his "rope a dope" strategies. Do not simply dismiss him, realize the threat, realize the attack machine (brass knuckles in a velvet glove), realize the his potential to fool millions.

Take the time to do your research on the threat he poses. Understand his positions and how he plays fast and loose with facts. Understand how he has been able to manipulate Democrats in Congress for decades. Understand how he is able to manipulate the media.
Take the threat of McCain as President very seriously.

I have come to a similar conclusion. I think we have a veritable lion masquerading as a silly old goat. He hasn't survived in the political arena this long because he is an idiot. With John McCain, what you see is not always going to be what you get.

McCain is going after the bloggers who suppported Hillary - pretty savvy drive the wedge in and further divide the party by co-opting the liberal voice

"McCain is going after the bloggers who suppported Hillary"

OK, but Hillary is NOT a liberal (she calls herself a progressive, what ever that is).

I have no respect for McCain, and I don't think he's hiding any kind of hitherto unknown abilities. That said, I have no respect for George Bush, never did, and yet he "won" the last two elections. I will lose sleep, I will do my research and understand him, not because he is formidable, but because he is the GOP candidate. That makes him dangerous in the extreme.

"Understand how he is able to manipulate the media." ???

McCane doesn't manipulate the media. The Republican owners of the MSM want a Republican in office. They are the ones that do the manipulating ... NOT McCane.

Obama will totally wipe the floor with McCain in their debates. McCain won't even know what hit him.

Sen. Obama didn't seem to know what hit him in the last debate. That's why it was the last debate!

Hillary and George set him up. The good thing about this is it didnt kill him, just made him stronger.

Agreed, now that he's been paticing with Hillary and McCain has so many senior moments, I can't wait for their first debate.
