GOP Struggles To Reinvent Itself

The bad news has come from Illinois, Louisiana and Mississippi -- a string of unexpected Republican defeats in congressional elections that have prompted GOP leaders to say, with candor unusual in politics, that the party is facing an outright catastrophe this November.

Increasingly, top Republicans are calling on their party to reinvent itself or risk driving away more voters and donors. The GOP image is so stale, said Rep. Thomas M. Davis III (R-Va.), in a memo to colleagues last week, that "if we were a dog food, they would take us off the shelf" because nobody is buying it.

Whatever the GOP relabels it's self, they are still lying fascists.

Ironic; did they not help the offshoring of jobs to China - where goods could be made and shipped worldwide, and in return having people worldwide complain about poor quality products, toxic products, deadly products...

Is it China's fault? Economic warfare as claimed by some? Is it the individual factory to blame? The head company that starts the string of subcontracting, the net result meaning the work is done offshore with little or no regulation?

Sorry to clutch at straws, and there are many more I hadn't even mentioned (nothing is ever so simple), and I pre-emptively apologize to any innocents as there are plenty of reliable goods that DO come from China, but nothing adds up. (Maybe I should avoid the math in the first place and simply smile...)

Hey, I've got it! How about they claim to be fiscally responsible while tripling the debt and claim to be for smaller government while growing it to record size and maybe act like they are against huge social programs while adding $800 billion to medicare? Oh wait, they already tried that, I guess they just need some new lies. I know, they could claim to be against abortion but never do anything about it when they controlled the entire government....no, wait....man, these new lies might be hard to come up with.

I disagree: The GOP is not struggling to reinvent itself. It is struggling to reLABEL itself.

I see no attempts at introspection or critical self-analysis -- only cynical ploys to foist teh same old crap on a gullible populace, with new packaging.

Exactly. The repubs are still owned and operated by the military/corporate oligarchs who want nothing to stand in the way of perpertual war and the continued re-distribution of wealth to only the wealthiest. McCain is held in little regard by the neo-fascists, despite his attempts to reinvent himself as Bush-lite. Washinton DC is in dire need of an exteme makeover. And indictments need to be issued against many members of the current administration, particulary Bush and Cheney. The repubs, regardless of how they re-label themselves, intend to preserve and further entrench the status quo. 80% of Americans say we need a change. It's time that someone listens to the will of the people.

I wouldn't feed the "GOP Brand" to my dog...It's probably made in China and laced with Melamine.

"if we were a dog food, they would take us off the shelf"
It should be, "We are dogfood being taken out of the shelf".

"Some GOP leaders now say that by embracing McCain and his policy platform, Republicans would instantly "rebrand" and reinvigorate their party. The difficulty of a swift reinvention was on display last week as the central players in Washington's conservative community gathered for their weekly strategy session, the Wednesday Meeting, held in a conference room of Grover Norquist's Americans for Tax Reform organization"
Big problem number one: the Republicans think that most of the American people are to stupid to know that the word "rebrand" is not in the dictionary, it's made up word, so stop using it.
Big problem number two hanging around that pinhead Grover Norquist, who's out for himself and others of like mind. What they need to do is show ole Grover the door and get back to helping all of the citizens in this country, not just a select few.

"All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression." Thomas Jefferson

>"if we were a dog food, they would take us off the shelf"<

Yes, but as with the dog food recall, the move will come only after many have suffered and died for the greed of others.

And as usual , the Gop will say what people want hear during election time, but just like a crack addict , they fall off the wagon as soon as they get what they want. They are just mentally ill people.

Go without,
Till the need seeps in
You low animal,
Collect your novel petals for the stem,

And glow,
Glow,
Melt and flow,
Eviscerate your fragile frame,
And spill it out on ragged floor,
A thousand different versions of yourself,

And if the old guard still offend,
They got nothing left on which you depend,
So enlist every ounce
Of your bright blood,
And off with their heads,

Jump from the hook
You're not obliged to swallow anything you despise
See, those unrepenting buzzards want your life,
And they got no right--
As sure as you have eyes,
They got no right,

Just put yourself in my new shoes,
And see that I do what I do,
Because the old guard still offends,
(Their pudgy hearts and slimy hands)
They got nothing left on which we depend.
So enlist every ounce
Of your bright blood,
And off with their heads.

Jump from the hook,
You're not obliged to swallow anything you despise
That you despise.

msmaggie, your 'review' of Kane's comment is worthy of the trailer-trash mentality that put the present administration in power.
I hope you were only attempting to be humorous. If so, it's only ok.
If you meant to actually denegrade the original message, re-read my first sentence.

If the GOP were "dog food", they would have already been turned into "dog poop", or "the runs," more likely.
