Political Radar:

Sen. Barack Obama went one step further today in his pushback against presumptive GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain and President Bush on appeasement, suggesting that both Republicans have a problem with presidents past who have engaged in direct diplomacy.

"If George Bush and John McCain have a problem with direct diplomacy, led by the president of the United States, then they can explain why they have a problem with John F. Kennedy because that's what he did with [Soviet leader Nikita] Khrushchev, or Ronald Reagan, 'cause that's what he did with [Soviet leader Mikhail] Gorbachev, or Richard Nixon 'cause that's what they did with [Chinese leader Mao Tse-tung]," Obama said in Roseburg, Ore. "That's exactly the kind of diplomacy we need to keep us safe."

75,000 attend Obama rally in PortlandPosted: Sunday, May 18, 2008 6:17 PM by Mark Murray
Filed Under: 2008, Obama
From NBC's Mark Hudspeth
Per the Obama campaign, 75,000 people (60,000 in the gates and 15,000 outside of them) turned out in Portland to hear Obama speak there this afternoon -- making it the largest Obama crowd to date.

Duane Bray, the battalion chief with Portland Fire and Rescue, validated that crowd estimate, the campaign says.

Judging from the recent upswing of lying anti-Obama posts by wingnuts, it seems the rabid right-wing is scared s**tless by Senator Obama. Good.

It is time we begin to call things what they are. The Bush policy openly makes every desision based on fear. The world veiw of "They're all out to get us" is both cowardly and paranoid. I call it the "Chicken Little" scool of diplomacy. I am amazed that the "Vote for me because the sky is falling" line worked to begin with, the Iraq war is the ultimate sucker punch! In the old west, it was prophetically refered to as Bushwhacking! We were not attacked, weapons inspectors were in place looking for evidence, and there was none!
The death of the republican "Brand," (What does that say about their commitment to ideals?) is the result of the people realising that fear and leadership are not compatable.

Obama, you're continuing the let them set the agenda. They'll happily tell us all what's wrong with JFK and they'll do it forcefully and with no mercy. They don't care about trashing anyone's reputation. You've got to label them, and constantly put the their intelligence, judgment and morals in question, put them in a box, throw them off balance. You said you would be happy to debate them on this topic 'cause you'll win. I believe that. Except this IS the debate. Bring out the big guns man and let them have it. Stop being so damn nice and pleasant. You're doing better than Kerry but you've got to amp it up several notches.

Guess we should not talk to each other. Guess they should keep flying planes into buildings and we hanging guys like Saddam. Really got us a long way. 9 Trillion in debt gas up to 4 bucks a gallon. Guess we can bomb them into talking. Maybe another surge will do. Better yet lets elect another fake cowboy. Don't worry the Chinese will keep lending us cash to pay for our bombs.

To the repugs: We put up with your 8 years of Bush. Thanks by the way. We're returning the favor with Obama. It should level things out for a while. You can spend the next 8 years complaining about how elitist, self-reflective, and well read he is. We can handle that.

So, according to John Hagee (McCain's spiritual buddy), Hitler and the Nazis were divine agents of God carrying out the punishment of the Jews. As, according to Hagee, the Jews brought the Holocaust upon themselves:

WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE AT THIS?

It's perfectly OK for Teflon John to be delighted with the endorsement of a man who says that Jews have "dead souls," but not OK for Barack Obama to have had a pastor who criticized the US Government. A double standard laid bare.

Please, let's ignore the gorilla in the house. Answering gorillaman's nonsensical, racist posts just encourages his repetitive posts. You'd be doing mental health a big favor by not answering him.

Exactly Obama's not even saying anything new, which is why it's sad the republicans are trying to act like it's some controversy thing to actually talk to people. This is how far we have fallen. I wonder how long it will take us to recover our standing in the world after Bush.

What is so refreshing after all these years: the man got all of the names right as in historically acurate. I know it's not such a big deal but it's been so long. It's like a sip of water in a desert.
Oh yeah. what he said is well timed and kicks political but. That's damned refreshing too.

I don't know what is happening to Obama but his speeches are just not cutting it. I have been listening to him in Oregon. He is reading everything and making plenty of mistakes. He needs a rest.

It is very nice to have a smart, well spoken man speaking out against Bush and his henchmen.

Well done, Obama! Bravo! I can hardly wait for the GE with you leading the Democrats.
