LOS ANGELES — George Takei said he will wed his longtime partner and business manager, Brad Altman, now that the California Supreme Court has legalized same-sex marriage.

Takei, the original Mr. Sulu on "Star Trek," said on his Web site that he and Altman have shared their lives for more than 21 years and are "overjoyed" to be able to legally marry.

"No more 'separate but equal.' No more second-class citizenship," wrote Takei, 71. "Brad and I are going to be married as full citizens of our state."

Takei, who also had a recurring role on NBC's "Heroes" last year, said he and Altman are planning the details of their wedding.

Oh My!! George, as a lifelong Trek fan I have loved you forever, and I'm so happy for you and Brad!

Congratulations and Best Wishes to you and all the couples in California who finally have the right to marry like the rest of us.

The final frontier.

And its only fitting that the navigator of the Enterprise is leading the way to the 24th century. George has been breaking racial, sexual, and artistic barriers for over 40 years. When a history of the future of this time is written, he will definitely have his paragraph.

Good luck to all of the people who wish to partake of this opportunity to get a same sex marriage.
It seems a little odd to me that Republican judges are responsible for this, but I think it is the right thing to do.

"odd to me that Republican judges are responsible for this"

Well not so odd. Happened before with the Chief Justice Warren Burger, appointed by Nixon, and led a lot of decisions leading to social reform:

"June 30, 1995: The longest-serving chief justice of the US, Warren Earl Burger, was buried Thursday (29 Jun 1995) at Arlington National Cemetery. He headed the court from 1969 to 1986, when he was succeeded by Chief Justice William R. Rehnquist.

Appointed by President Nixon, the St Paul, Minnesota, native presided over the Supreme Court that endorsed affirmative action, sanctioned busing to integrate schools and legalized abortion. His court also allowed blacks for the first time to sue for indirect job discrimination, based on statistics that revealed that blacks got the short end of the stick when it came to receiving good jobs.

On July 25, 1974, Burger sided with the other Supreme Court justices in denying Nixon control over the White House tapes made during the Watergate crisis. That ruling ultimately led to Nixon's resignation from the presidency." http://www.arlingtoncemetery.net/weburger.htm

.

Another reason of course, is that all these Republicans are just repressed, and just screaming to be able to come out.

That's why they're taking such a "wide stance".

LOL

I will tell you this, enjoy it while you can. Does anyone believe that there won't be another ballot attack on same sex marriage? I go with Camille Paglia on this issue. Everything else is just asking for payback from the GOPers. Spare me the Civil Rights analogy since this is dealing with religion and you are going to get a pushback. Watch for it.

How the Hell is this "dealing with religion"! This decision means the "State" cannot deny marriage under "State" Law! Any Church that does not want to marry Gay couples is not being forced to!

Why is my direct reply to this post being scrubbed? What is the problem? Too spot on? Can't handle the truth?

For a little perspective, Shatner and Nichols's first (actually not, but close enough) interracial kiss on TV got more press than Takei coming out.

Star Trek always did challenge societal norms. More than we ever thought.

Tell me about it. I consider myself a decent Star Trek fan, especially when it comes to the original series and cast but I had no clue.

Congrats to George and Brad!!!!

Mazel tov. How many times have Shatner and Nimoy been married and you're the one threatening family values?
