AFP:

Warren Buffett, the world's richest man, is backing Barak Obama for US president and thinks current US economic policy will push the dollar lower against other global currencies.

Buffett told a press conference here Monday he had offered support to both Obama and Democratic rival Hillary Clinton but that since it appeared Obama would win the party's nomination, "I will be very happy if he is elected president.

see? obama has WIDE appeal...billionaires from soros to buffet simply LOVE him!

Can't Huffington Post get their story straight. Buffett said he was for both of them, but it looks like Obama is going to win and he would support him. hypocrites all of you.

But...but....I thought the richest man in the world lived in MEXICO!

But...but....I thought democrats hated the rich?

Gee, I just read from a major news source, that Buffett said he would be glad to support either candidate in the general election, and that he is not saying who he supports in the primary.

Now, just look at the misleading headline of this unrespectable article.

This is another example of how the Huffington Post puts on as much spin as Fox News.

You want change!? Well, where is it?!

I don't know what you read, but the following is from the HuffPo article:

Buffett told a press conference here Monday he had offered support to both Obama and Democratic rival Hillary Clinton but that since it appeared Obama would win the party's nomination, "I will be very happy if he is elected president.

"He is my choice," Buffett said.

Can't get much clearer than that. If you have another article that says something different, please provide the link.

READ the full text, folks. Buffet has offered support to Clinton and Obama and said he'd rather see a democrat in office, and he would support the chosen nominee. IT wasn't a sound, ringing endorsement for a candidate, just support for the party in general. Oh, god, Huffpo, you're like little school kids with a crush.
10:55 AM on 05/20/2008
Oh Red Birdy - you are like a vulture...in for the kill even if the road kill is another vulture....Senator Obama IS the Democratic Presidential Nominee. Warren Buffett and I will vote for Senator Obama....the real question is whether or not YOU will.....

BTW, this true liberal gay man voted for Bill Clinton gladly in 1992 and holding my nose in 1996...and I voted Gore in 2000 gladly and Kerry while holding my nose in 2004. It is time for the DINO, DLC and Yellow Dog wings of the Democratic Party to join progressive, populist and liberal Democrats, progressive Republicans and Independents, and stop W or McCain from a third term.
10:13 AM on 05/20/2008
This is not an endorsement for Obama. Typical of Huffington Post garbage headlines. Buffett has campaigned with Hillary and he is just saying he will support the nominee. You guys are worse than Fox.
10:52 AM on 05/20/2008
NO comments are worse than those on Fox noise, a propaganda machine if there ever was one.

You are damned right we are "like school kids", and yes, we are so excited that there may finally be an end to the BushCo regime, only 278 days, unless they decide to suspend elections, or start a new war somewhere. I put nothing past them. We must steel out the rest of the year suffering from their garbage policies--more like frivolities.

Obama, Clinton, either one would be acceptable.

Somebody finally put a big nail in the overblown balloon of the Republican Party. Not a moment too soon as they continue to dismantle the Constitution and instate Nixon's idea of the Imperial Presidency.

Rjean, the worst three candidates ever? You seem to have a perception problem. No one good enough for you, why don't you run?

What amazes me is that there are still people who call themselves Republican.
05:00 PM on 05/20/2008
What amazes me are people who are "amazed" that others might actually think differently than they do.

The people who work the least acrue all the income. People who work the hardest die broke and depressed.

Isn't Capitalism great?
07:28 AM on 05/20/2008
He said on CNBC in an interview with Becky Quick he liked all 3 candidates. He said we have a good choice of candidates this time and he was initially for Hillary but liked Obama and McCain.
08:21 AM on 05/20/2008
that just shows how stupid buffet is...we have three of the worst candidates ever....if you overlook john francois kerry and al gored.......

I'm not all that wild about rich people. But Warren has done great things for others with his wealth, and I admire him for it.

(I'm not specifically replying to this comment, but I'm not currently able to post a comment unless it's in the form of a reply.)

Warren Buffet and I have something in common: we are both willing to take a financial "hit" in order to see Barack Obaba elected President of the United States. I am heavily invested in ExxonMobil and ConocoPhillips through a portfolio left to me by my mother. Although I could vote my pocketbook and go with McCain, I think it is important enough to this country that Obama is elected president that I will accept his pledge to seek a windfall profits tax on "Big Oil."

I admire you selflessness, but if you are as smart an investor as I think you are, you will move your assets in a timely manner. I mean all of you investors have been a big "heads up" on your oil stocks.

Just wondering, why can't you post?

Wow! This was courageous. Thanks for the comment.

Who is editing, or 'not' at HuffPo these days? (Just when you were getting SO much better, from the days when you spelled 'fascism', as 'fashism' on the front page...) The richest man in the WORLD would be Carlos Slim, a Mexican. Do some research and correct your header...
04:41 AM on 05/20/2008
Actually Pythia, you ought to check your facts before opining on HuffPo. Carlos Slim was indeed the richest through March of 2008, but has since been superceded by the Oracle of Omaha.
FYI. :)
Yours sincerely,
(A Black Moderate/Progressive who was set to vote for McCain in 2000 but has been so off-put by 8 years of insanity that I'd vote for my pet beagle before voting republican in '08)

Thank you, Mr. Buffet, this endorsement is very significant, it says a lot about Senator Obama, that you would invest in his success.
