Warren Buffett, the world's richest man, is backing Barak Obama for US president and thinks current US economic policy will push the dollar lower against other global currencies.

Buffett told a press conference here Monday he had offered support to both Obama and Democratic rival Hillary Clinton but that since it appeared Obama would win the party's nomination, "I will be very happy if he is elected president.

Duh. Stock markets and the fortunes of capitalists like Buffet depend on societal optimism, and Obama is all about keeping the hope alive. Remember, folks, the next several years are going to suck because of the hole we've dug for ourselves. Somebody will have to be beamed into millions of households every night to tell us how we're going to lead the world to a sustainable future. Somebody has to sell the public and the private sector a vision for the future that's worth investing trillions to achieve.

That person is certainly not John McCain, and as much as I used to admire Hillary Clinton, it seems painfully obvious that Barack Obama is the right leader to motivate the unprecedented global transformation needed to save humanity and preserve. As he so often emphasizes, government can't solve all of our problems, but with a compelling vision and sound policy, government can lead us in the right direction, and we the people can come together to solve our problems.

I support Obama because he's not a big gov

It was the Republicans who dug the hole we are in, let's not forget that.

No, it is the entire goverment that dug the hole.

Alot of our so-called Democratic representatives have played along. Let's not forget that either. There should be a thorough house-cleaning, but the American public probably couldn't distinguish between those that caved and those that didn't. Too much information required.

I do not support Obama because he sounds like a mindless motivational speaker or new age preacher. All style, no content. His feel-good hope/change rhetoric is old news. And not convincing at all if you see how smug he looks delivering idiocy and getting applauded for it.

I so agree with you. Thank you for putting my thoughts into words. Like his wife said, for the first time she is proud to be an American. Ouch , that hurts. It's got to hurt. And if you don't hurt when you hear her saying that, you are no American. Very Poised. :-)

I support Obama because he's not a big government progressive (e.g. Kucinich, Feingold, etc.). He's a bottom-up progressive. He believes in giving people the tools to help themselves. He believes that Reagan-esque personal responsibility would actually work with the right support structure in place. He believes that we can move forward together as a society without sacrificing our individuality. With supply-side policy running into a wall of demand-side recession, Obama is simply good for business.

Yeah! IT is time to wonder if the Clintons are coupled with the Bushes. Has been the case. Who benefits from Hillary hanging around? The Kennedys are the only modern day dynasty in my lifetime. Get that through your stubborn heads. Criminals should go for the movies; Colione, drug smuggling, not real life.

Dear RNC;
Please explain why this is not an incredibly important endorsement. If someone as American and as capitalistic as Warren Buffet is for Obama and against McCain what does that say for the Republican party and it's candidate?

The attack on Obama is going to be that he's a "radical". But since when does an individual like Warren Buffet support a radical commie? Do they think he's just dumb or what?

McCain is a sacrificial lamb for the RNC which appreciates that it can't win and might as well throw someone into the fire in the hopes of retooling for 2012. Obama's going to have a rough 4 years. Maybe too tough for any person and the RNC is just waiting it out. Having created the mess they intend to suck the Democratic party in the black hole that is their current legacy.

There's a reason why Warren Buffet is the world's richest man. He is a good judge of character and knows a winner when he sees one.

Thank you, Mr. Buffet!

BS. Gore has repeatedly said that he would remain neutral through the primary process in order to be able to have some credibility in bringing the party back together - as he is demonstrating by holding a DNC fundraiser that unites Obama and Clinton donors.

Sorry but, Buffett is a rarity among the wealthy... a man who still lives in the same house, who will donate the vast majority of his fortune to charity, and who could have spoiled his kids and grand kids rotten but instead gave them the tools (education) to achieve their own success. When you compare the likes of Buffett to the the ilk of Kenneth Lay, etc. I will gladly take buffettt any day of the week.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:54 PM on 05/19/2008

And interestingly alot of those Omahans who invested early with Buffett have similar values. They live in their same houses for decades, they drive older cars, they donate generously to local causes. All round good midwestern values. Can't vouch for the newer investors.

Beuffett isn't a bad guy. He's used his money for many good causes and doesn't believe that wealth should be amassed to just pass on to kids. I'm very happy he supports Obama.

Well, most of Buffets money will go to charitable causes rather than his kids - that's got to count for something. He is entrusting the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation to help change the world with his fortune.

Buffett is a very sensible and decent guy from everything I can tell. He came out strongly against the estate tax repeal and has noted the absurdity that he pays taxes at a lower rate than his secretary. His generosity in giving to the Gates Foundation is further evidence of this. I think this is a terrific endorsement and one Obama should put to good use.

Nice.

So much for not having experience. A tired argument that is so fatally flawed.

Look at our choices. McCain does nothing for me economically.

McCain is a 1-issue candidate. War. War. War.

Thanks Mr. Buffet. America trust your judgment.

Note, i did not say experience. JUDGMENT!
