I'm sure *that* goes over big with the ladies.
So many of you are hung up on the fact that yes HE is technically still a woman, but the law recognizes him as a man. It's called transgendered now get over it. We all know Thomas Beatie was a woman first and still has ovaries. But again the law recognizes his right to adjust his body. Get over the small petty details. Mentally he is a man. He will continue to lead his life as a man and go back to hormones to maintain his lifestyle. He is only doing this because his wife and partner can no longer have kids. And since he hadn't removed the ovaries, he is stepping up to the plate. It's a confusing situation yes. And technically he is still a female. But he chooses to live as a male and I think we should respect that and wish this family a helathy baby instead of crying about petty semantics.
This happens only in America
And?
Looks like he's taking fine care of himself - exercise is very important at this time.
Congratulations to the happy couple!
Only in America
For full disclosure, shouldn't that pregnant man moniker in any headline on dear earth, have really really bold quotation marks as a qualifier? Just saying...........
This is NOT a man. This is a woman!!!!!!!!
MSNBC going got another story on "Born in wrong body"
Gender identity and expression are in your mind. HE IS a man! Leave him alone and let him be who he is.
To answer the medical question, yes he has discontinued hormone therapy while pregnant.
He is not an "it." He is not a She. He is.
that's a bunch of PC crap that they feed to kids in gay and lesbians studies classes in college
People try to make this a semantic argument but fact is, you are born biologically a man or a woman, unless there is birth defect.
You can be a lesbian and want to look like a man if you want to, fine, but you are still a woman.
Some would say transsexualism is, in fact a birth 'defect,' ...the process by which a brain develops sex characteristics is actually pretty fragile, especially in a polluted environment. In fact, it was discovered accidentally that a disproportionate number of people affected by some medication or other given to pregnant women (I can't recall the name, off the top of my head) turned out to be transsexuals.
Whatever it is, it's real, even if it's uncomfortable to certain folks' definitions and presumptions. These are the same presumptions where it's been common practice to assign a gender to babies born with ambigous genitalia and alter them, sometimes without ever telling them and certainly without ever giving them a choice. Frequently these guesses are wrong, so gender identity isn't as simple as 'in the mind.'
You can't un-develop a brain, but people can at least be a lot more comfortable in their skins, and this is really why sex change surgeries are done.
Are species identity and expression also in my mind?
In the mind or in the soul?
I wish these peole well and hope the media leaves them alone. But given the situation one can expect at least a bit of media attention. I watched the Oprah interview and while it was very open, there were some questions that were not asked. If this woman is taking hormones to become more "man-like" how will those hormones effect the fetus? Did this woman stop taking the hormones? Will residual male hormones in her system effect the fetus? There are many medical questions as to how this baby will develop.
Again, I wish them the best and a healthy baby.
Gonavy, apparently you did not watch all of the Oprah interview or you would know that Thomas did in fact stop taking male hormones a few years ago when she wanted to conceive. They were completely free from his system before conception so the ob/gyn sees no developmental problems on the horizon. I too wish this couple a healthy, happy baby and hope the media will leave them alone. They seemed like such sweet, thoughtful couple and have the support of her grown children from a previous marriage.
Thank you, I must have missed that part. I kind of thought that her doctors would have addressed this issue but did not hear anything about it. Good wishes all around.
It's not a man, baby! You have to admit, she looks a bit mannish...
The major sad thing is that she pumped herself full of androgen in order to look like a dude, but then decided to have a baby. I sincerely feel bad for the developing baby because these hormones are not good news for its development.
SHE is not a man. She is a SHE. You can not become a man with an adadicktome.
This is just plain, old, simple, left wing redefinition of terms.
She is a she. Always has been, always will be.
Why do people keep calling this thing a pregnant man? Just because a doctor adds or subtracts some parts doesn't make them a man or a woman.
Let me sum it up for you, if you can get prenant . . . you are not a man.
