Let's retitle this, "The Video That Terrified 1.3 Billion Gullible, Impossibly Superstitious People."

How did we know it was fake, long before its makers came clean? Because it shows a ghost, people. That's all we needed to determine it was a fraud. For heaven's sake.

Creepy but clearly fake. Besides the fact that there's no such thing as a ghost, it's clearly too cinematic. Real footage tends to cut to the chase.

This is a pure fake. To assume this is real is downright silly.

A frame by frame examination shows a two frame dissolve of the "Composite" right before the man walks out the elevator. If you look closely at behind the mans lower waist you can see the "layer" fade in.

A good job on rotoscoping and matchmoving. Also, the video is 8bit and "quartered" on a standard 720x480 frame. Meaning, it's much easier to hide your vfx work with crappy video.

It was done on a flame or shake or nuke or any number of the roto/paint programs out there.

Why they do this? Because it's fun, that's why.

It's a rather cliche Japanese type of ghost effect anyway.
