Hillary Clinton

Sen. Hillary Clinton is making a full-court, last-ditch effort to seat the delegates from Michigan and Florida at the Democratic convention.

Campaigning in Florida today, Clinton compared the fight to have those two states seated to no less than four other historic events: the U.S. Civil Rights movement, the struggle for women's suffrage, the contested Bush v. Gore election in 2000, and even the recent violent elections in Zimbabwe. An overview:

FLORIDA/MICHIGAN = CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT?

Hillary Clinton compared her effort to seat Florida and Michigan delegates to epic American struggles, including those to free the slaves and win the right to vote for blacks and women...

"This work to extend the franchise to all of our citizens is a core mission of the modern Democratic party," she said. "From signing the Voting Rights Act and fighting racial discrimination at the ballot box to lowering the voting age so those old enough to fight and die in war would have the right to choose their commander in chief, to fighting for multi-lingual ballots so you can make your voice heard no matter what language you speak."

FLORIDA/MICHIGAN = SUFFRAGE MOVEMENT?

Jettisoning her standard stump speech, Clinton gave a 25-minute sermon on the sacred place voting holds in American history, invoking women's suffrage and the long struggle for minorities to gain voting rights.

"Each vote you cast is a prayer for our nation," she said. "Each vote is a tool, one used throughout history, to break barriers, open doors and widen the circle of opportunity."

FLORIDA/MICHIGAN = BUSH V. GORE?

Invoking the controversial dispute over electoral results in Florida in 2000, Hillary Clinton is campaigning in areas where Democrats felt their votes were not counted fairly then and demanding that this year's results of primaries both in the Sunshine State and Michigan be counted, even though they violated Democratic Party rules.

"We believe the popular vote is the truest expression of your will. We believe it today just as we believed it back in 2000 when, right here in Florida, you learned the hard way what happens when your votes aren't counted and a candidate with fewer votes is declared the winner," Clinton told a crowd at retirement home in Boca Raton. "The lesson of 2000 here in Florida is crystal clear: if any votes aren't counted, the will of the people isn't realized and our democracy is diminished."

FLORIDA/MICHIGAN = ZIMBABWE?

Desperate to get attention for her cause to seat Florida and Michigan delegates, Hillary Clinton compared the plight of Zimbabweans in their recent fraudulent election to the uncounted votes of Michigan and Florida voters saying it is wrong when "people go through the motions of an election only to have them discarded and disregarded."

"We're seeing that right now in Zimbabwe," Clinton explained. "Tragically, an election was held, the president lost, they refused to abide by the will of the people," Clinton told the crowd of senior citizens at a retirement community in south Florida.

"So we can never take for granted our precious right to vote. It is the single most important, privilege and right any of us have, because in that ballot box we are all equal. You're equal to a billionaire. You're equal to the president, every single one of us."

Meanwhile, in an interview with NPR today, Obama's chief strategist David Axelrod seemed open to a deal on Michigan and Florida:

"We are open to comprise [sic]. We are willing to go more than half way. We're willing to work to make sure that we can achieve a compromise. And I guess the question is: is Senator Clinton's campaign willing to do the same?"

Axelrod continues: "Well, obviously, any compromise is going to involve some give, and that means if there's something on the table, we're willing to consider it. That may include us yielding more delegates than perhaps we would have, simply on the basis of the rules."

Hillary is an embarrassment to the Democratic party. She will say and do anything to justify why she should be the nominee even though she dose not have the popular vote, most delegates, most state won, and most super-delegates. What next she will be saying she got a purple heart metal because she got shot in Bosnia. Come on stop the madness. stop it stop it stop it stop it.

HILLARY IS SO DEVIOUS, AND MANIPULATIVE!! THIS CAMPAIGN RACE IS NO LONGER ABOUT THE VOTERS BUT ABOUT HILLARY CLINTON HERSELF!! IF HILLARY DOES NOT WIN, SHE DOES NOT WANT ANYONE TO WIN, SHÈ DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THE VOTERS!!

1. SIXTEEN months ago, Hillary, along with ALL the other 8 candidates who were running for the democratic nomination, ALL OF THEM, signed a contract which said that because they moved up their primary voting date, that Florida, and Michigan would not count.
BUT when Hillary started losing, she STARTED LYING, ACTING as though she had not actually signed a contract, even when she was confronted with the proof on television.

2. So not only is Hillary trying to get the votes in Florida, and Michigan counted, (because she needs them to win), Hillary has said that she wants to EXCLUDE all the votes cast in states with caucases. Hillary says that they should not count. (There goes Hillary's whole argument that she wants EVERY vote to count) . So if you live in a caucus state, Hillary DOES NOT think ANY of your votes are important. And she has said so!!

THIS IS THE TYPE OF MANIPULATION, AND DISHONESTY WE CAN EXPECT FROM HILLARY AS PRESIDENT. SHE HAS ALREADY SHOWN SHE HAS NO RESPECT FOR RULES, OR CONTRACTS.
WATCHING HILLARY LIE, AND CHANGE THE RULES WHENEVER SHE FEELS LIKE IT, SHOW THAT SHE IS MANIPULATIVE, AND DECEPTIVE, AND CANNOT BE TRUSTED TO KEEP HER WORD!

When she started losing cauci she decided they were "undemocratic".

I have tried being patient. I have tried being gracious to Hillary's supporters. I have tried to be optimistic. Today was the last straw. She never intended to bow out gracefully. She didn't give a #$%# about the MI and FL voters until she lost Iowa and South Carolina. Now she is their Indira Gandhi. She obviously wants Obama to lose the general or she would get out. She wants him to lose so she can run again in 4 years. So due to her sick obsession with winning, we have to put up with 4 more years of was, conservative judges appointed to the Suprem Court, no health care, ........ If she thinks any of the Obama supporters will forgive and forget, she has a surprise in store. All her surrogates on the MSM today were talking about how "sexist" these primaries have been. What a crock. I am so done with her. I used to think Obama might have to take her as VP for the sake of the party. Now, I hope he will not consider it for a second. By the way, I am a white working class woman.

I could not agree more. The Clintons are about, well, the Clintons. They think if you just keep saying a thing, after a while people will believe it. Sadly, I think they are right. A lot of my fellow Americans are stupider than I ever thought.

The spineless superdelegates better decide and soon, or this thing will go to the convention and rip the Democratic Party asunder for at least twenty years.

jpet... I agree.. no VP for her... I am not sure what her political worth will be when she finally does bow out... However, is she thinks that she is a viable candidate for 2012 the she's dreaming (again)... there is no way that we will forget what she is doing to the Democratic party in 2008.

All the people's votes must be counted so the super delegates can decide this thing!

That's just it. The votes can't and shouldn't count. The voters were told their votes wouldn't count because MI and FL violated DNC rules. All the candidates signed off on it and agreed to it. Nobody was disenfranchised. Those MI and FL state legislatures decided to thumb their nose at the rules and they were told their primaries wouldn't count and their delegates wouldn't be seated.

It's that simple.

Clinton, Obama and Edwards Join Pledge to Avoid Defiant States

"Hours after Senator Barack Obama of Illinois and former Senator John Edwards of North Carolina agreed to sign a loyalty pledge put forward by party officials in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York followed suit. The decision seemed to dash any hopes of Mrs. Clinton relying on a strong showing in Florida as a springboard to the nomination."

Oh, you mean the FL and MI voters that Hillary said didn't count UNTIL she lost IOwa and South Carolina? Those voters?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:04 AM on 05/22/2008

Except according to the Clintons "all the people's votes" excludes Iowa, Nevada, Washington, and Maine; along with the 238,168 people in Michigan (40%) who voted against her.

Hillary's invoking the civil rights struggle as analogous to the Florida primary mess reminded me somewhat of Bush invoking the Holocaust and appeasement of Hitler in order to denigrate Democratic proposals for reasonable diplomacy in the Middle East. The similarity? Both Senator Clinton and President Bush are glibly exploiting the memory of momentous, wrenching events in our history for political gain.

I want to be gracious. I want everybody to make nice, so when this nomination process ends as we all know it will, we can all work together to defeat McCain and the Republicans. But, God, she is making it hard, and making this so much worse than it has to be! It's really starting to be shameful. "Every vote must count" is a noble sentiment, but it would be easier to buy from Senator Clinton if her own campaign manager hadn't said at the start that this would be a 27-state contest, finished on Feb. 5. I still think Senator Clinton is a strong, brilliant person. But I am more convinced every day that, to her, principles are just like clothing, to be worn according to season, event, or time of day, whatever cut and color seem to suit the moment.

Hillary Clinton is EFFING crazy!!! She lacks all semblance of integrity and a functional moral compass. How dare she compare her self-serving lunacy to the Civil Rights movement where people were threatened, maimed and killed! Especially after all of the race-baiting that she and Bill and her campaign are responsible for? And what kind of idiot compares her campaign to those of the struggle for voting rights and the suffrage movement??? Is she frigging INSANE? Does she imagine us all to be as crazy and deluded as SHE is???

This is beyond cracking jokes about her mindless destructiveness. It is beyond just venting on Huffington Post. DO something...get active! Make the calls, send the emails to the DNC and superdelegates. Tell the superdelegates and the DNC to shut this thing down NOW: declare their support and take care of FL & MI before May 31st.

I have been emailing the DNC today asking for some leadership. What a bunch of whimps they are turning out to be. Could everybody flood the DNC with calls and emails. It might also help to email Pelosi and Reed and ask them to frigging do SOMETHING!

The last thing we need is more drama from the Clintons. Could someone please explain to me the hold the Clintons have over the Democratic Party? I know, obviously, Bill was the Pres but he was impeached for god sakes along with Hillary's dramas. She made a fiasco of health care, under Bill's leadership, they lost the house and senate majority. Exactly, what does the party owe them? It is a mystery to me. .....
You've seen Donald Duck get mad and he starts yelling in that quacky way? That was me today when Hillary was speaking in Florida. Please, Hillary, exit stage left....

WHY NOT BUY TIME AND TEMPORARY PEACE AND POSTPONE THE MAY 31ST MEETING?

What if, ALL Obama supporters DEMAND that the Rules Committee meet the week after the last primary. Wouldn't this help to avoid this CHAOS???
That way Obama could add to his delegate count and push back the mayhem that this meeting will cause.

Then maybe by that point seating FL and MI might, I say might because he would need a few SD's in between, BE MOOT!

If everyone does this then they will have to listen. It just seems like the best solution all around.
We have the power in numbers to do this, and would be doing it to calm things down until PR has voted.

Why are they rushing into this??? It can be left for the end. What is the strategy here?

There would not be a problem if the superdelegates would come out for Obama. He could seat MI and FL.

another reason why she lost the black vote she has gone tone deaf. She signed the friggin pledge. Did she make a mistake. Yes. I thought she made a mistake at the time but she looked at the map and the calender and decided she didn't need FL and MI as much as she needed Iowa and NH. Bad Mark Penn math.
