Shortly after Tuesday's announcement that Senator Ted Kennedy has a malignant brain tumor, conservative radio host Michael Savage took to the airwaves to mock Massachusetts Democrat, playing a song by the band the Dead Kennedys "in some respect" for the Senator. Savage also had several "aha!" moments, attributing previous Kennedy actions and statements to the newfound brain tumor, including this off-color remark below:

The poor guy's been suffering for years, you know? Unfairly he's been accused of alcoholism, but we see now that it was something much more deep-seated.

Listen:

Other lowlights:

No gloating today, no laughter, all serious. You don't joke about a man's cancer. I do it, but I won't do it today; it's something I will not do.
You know I'm playing the Dead Kennedys not to mock Ted Kennedy. It's just appropriate, that's all.
I'm asking you, would a sane nation permit a senile senator to hold his seat?
They've got literally a walking psycho there. And we've known it for years by the things he does. For years now, Byrd has been blubbering on the floor of the Senate. For years, I mean, to be honest, Kennedy didn't seem sane to me. Forget about the drunk stories and all that -- anybody can drink. The guy sounded like he was off for years, I'm sorry.

SAVAGE is a media powerhouse and intellectually superior to the smartest so called, "progressive". The proof is that the left is too shackled to ideology to be considered intellectual or at very least intellectually honest. Their hatred of Michael Savage is rooted in scholastic inferiority and professional jealously. Savage is a prophet , gifted thinker and raconteur. A keen eye will notice that while there is a sea of hateful bloggers who are addicted to attacking Michael Savage there is nary a drop of water worth of bloggers who attack his substantive message. The progresso-Marxists ask themselves, "Why debate when you can attack the messenger?" Question: What is a racist, sexist, xenophobic homophobe? Answer: Anyone winning a debate with a so called "progressive". The new "Progressive" is the old Marxist. Their best days are on the ash heap of history.

Like all closeted gays, Savage hates himself so much that it has spilled over to become the hatred of all else. He is made of hate. Hateful people like him for that reason. He does represent them.

I am so a fan of some of the writers. I didn't realize that I could enter their names. Over the weekend I'll take the trouble to go through their names.

Cheers

How extraordinarily ironic. The worst member of the unspeakable Kennedy clan has readers of the Huffington Post reduced to tears and praying for his speedy recovery. If anything demonstrates the paucity of reader's attention span and the curious groveling to celebrity so beloved of the 20th and 21st century. This is it. As with his brothers, and his father, Ted Kennedy was 'In like Flynn' with any woman who happened to be passing. Chappaquiddick, a dark night, a young woman called Mary Jo Kopechne, deep black water and Ted Kennedy's sudden inability(?) to swim ensured an agonizing death for Mary Jo. All the right people in all the right places, including the Catholic Church and all the strings of government made sure there was one law for the rich, Catholic royalty and the well connected. Then there's the other law for the rest of us.

O'Reiilyy, Gibson, Limbaugh, Coulter, Medvev, Savage, hannity etc, are going to make McCain win. Easy it is. Democrats just don't see it. Becaus they have an elitist attitude.

I don't like he violin the conservatives play. But they sure know how to do it.

AnnieinOR,

Savage is a Russian JEW, not Christian.

To I'm a Retired Salesman: Your profile states you are a born again Christian.yet what you posted goes against your beliefs. Yes, Senator Kennedy is not a perfect person-I myself have yet to meet one on the face of the earth. Perhaps you should do real research on all the good Senator Kennedy has done for the country and continues to do. For the record, Senator Kennedy has worked hard for his benefits. I hope you find inner peace. Nobody knows what will happen to them. Remember that. Nobody asks to be ill. Senator Kennedy is an American Hero.

Every time I accidentally stumble across Michael Savage on the radio, I get the same feeling I have when I accidentally step in a pile of dog shit.
Consider the source, change the channel. Don't give this used condom of a "radio personality" any more consideration than he deserves.

savage you just bought yourself some bad karma - you will probably die a horrific death yourself for your callous and vile behavior - so much for Christian behavior - I bet Jesus is disappointed

I don't have time to read through 6 pages of comments so I don't know if this has been said -

He picked "California Uber Alles"?!? Really??? A song about neuvo-hippy buddhist Jerry Brown? I mean come the fuck on - just 'cause the band is named "Dead Kennedys" doesn't mean you can just play the last 30 seconds of one of their songs anytime someone with the last name Kennedy almost croaks.

Hell, there isn't a single Dead Kennedy's song that would have been appropriate for the type of crude, yet acceptable (free speech entitles you to be a heartless dick), reference he was going for. It just doesn't make sense

As a former Dj for an independent punk station I am outraged that someone would misuse such a great song in such a horrible way! Not to mention the fact that it just doesn't make sense - not from a humor standpoint, not from a contextual standpoint. Hell, it just doesn't make sense...

These conservative radio talk show hosts seem to be the most ludicrous creatures of all the right wing loonies out there. This is horrendous.

MediaMatters sucks. It's called free speech. Who said they have to OK everything?

MediaMatters sucks like Brent Bozell sucks. Idiots that are convinced everything has to meet their approval.

Don't listen if you think it's crap. Don't give them free publicity either. But idiots always do, complete with extended sound bite.

It was cool to hear a discussion of DK lyrics, BTW.

There are such notions as discernment and also sensibility.

Sure, some lyrics are "cool" but there are perhaps the context is what made them inappropriate in some people's minds. They have as much right to their opinion. Which is for the most part expressed more eloquently than "sucks" and "cool."

Everything you're saying about free speech and turning the dial if you don't like it, also applies to Media Matters. If you don't like Media Matters, read something else. I think they provide an important service by documenting lies and smears on the public airwaves. As for Savage, Limbaugh, Hannity... they're not just talking on some street corner. The radio broadcast spectrum belongs to all of us. The license to use a piece of it excludes others from doing the same, so it comes with conditions that are entirely Constitutional. They're not free to spew just any sort of garbage they feel like, without limits.

You are wrong, Leo. That first amendment allows you to say anything no matter how vile and you cannot be stopped by the government. Except shouting fire in a crowded building, as an example, or disturbing the peace or causing a riot or when the state has a compelling interest in stopping it. Even those acts are subject to strict scrutiny by the courts.

Of course, in many countries political or religious police can stop it. Or, you can just turn to another station. But, if I understand you, Leo, you have a problem with what people are thinking and saying. You would like to control that and contain that. Sounds downright communist, doesn't it?
