NY Times :

Senator Barack Obama took a big step toward becoming the Democratic presidential nominee on Tuesday, amassing enough additional delegates to claim an all but insurmountable advantage in his race against Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

While Mrs. Clinton's campaign continued to make a case that she could prevail, Mr. Obama seized on the results from Democratic contests in Kentucky and Oregon to move into a new phase of the campaign in which he will face different challenges. Those include bringing disaffected Clinton supporters into his camp; winning over elements of the Democratic coalition like working-class whites, Hispanics and Jews; and fending off attacks from Senator John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee, especially on national security.

Polls: Hillary Outperforms Obama Against McCain In Top Three Swing States
By Eric Kleefeld - May 22, 2008, 9:46AM

A new set of polls from Quinnipiac gives some credibility to the Clinton campaign's argument that Hillary is the more electable Democrat. She does better than Obama against McCain in the big three swing states, and he's currently running behind in two out of the three:

Florida
McCain (R) 45%, Obama (D) 41%
Clinton (D) 48%, McCain (R) 41%

Ohio
McCain (R) 44%, Obama (D) 40%
Clinton (D) 48%, McCain (R) 41%

Pennsylvania
Obama (D) 46%, McCain (R) 40%
Clinton (D) 50%, McCain (R) 37%

Good for him. It took him to May 20 to do it. Anybody see a problem with that?

Yep, And he STILL hasn't gotten to the number yet.

Dems were never good with math. Obama needs about 1750 to be at the halway mark. They don't get to ignore the voters in Florida and Michigan. Even if the Dems cheat the voters in those two states, it seems clear now that some will beseated and the number Obama used is just another "mission unaccomplish".

Oh right, Obama has, what are they calling it now, an Appalachia problem?

And what exactly is that? Does it have anything to do with the fact that we are now in June and HE STILL hasn't been able to secure the number for the Dem nomination.

Is that what Appalachia problem means? Just wondering.

If Obama can't win the illiterate vote in Appalachia, oh well.

Yeah, in republican conservative Kentucky that nevertheless said they prefer Obama to McCain. Nice try.

Sweetheart, KFC is still in business.

Eat your chicken and drink your beer.

Obama is a distraction to save the GOP from the Clintons, their worst nightmare.

GOP strategy: distract the liberals with the Obama, then swoop in with McCain.

Divide and Conquer.

This means absolutely nothing to Hillary...let the votes count, so the superdelagates can over-rule them!!!

Neo (ginnypoo) up to her old tricks. Coming onto a dead thread and replying to hours old posts in an attempt to make it appear she is having the final say that can't be rebutted.

I just have to vent somewhere. I am so sick of Hillary - I can't stand the sight of that woman.

Her hypocrisy is truly amazing. She is whining about sexism - all the while accepting votes on based on racism and telling the DNC - that race is a fact of life.

She says she is the only one ready on day one to run the country and she can't even run her campaign and it's budget.

She says she cares about everyone's vote but when she computes her "winning" popular vote it doesn't include the caucus states - I guess counting everyone doesn't really mean that - just the everyones that give her the numbers she wants. Gives "fuzzy math" a whole new perspective.

She says she should be trusted. But she lies about Bosnia, her war vote and a host of other items.

She says her word is good - I guess that doesn't count the document she signed saying that she would not campaign in Florida or Michagan - that was then and now is now. (oh and of course you can have all the votes in a place where Obama wasn't even on the ballot - but that's fair???)

Please explain how any one with a reasoning mind - can justify this and support her.

This makes no sense to me.

I know we're supposed to be praising Hillary now, but I'm having trouble, too. Her hypocrisy hasn't gone away. If anything, related to Florida and Michigan, it's only intensified.

Not only does she repeatedly LIE about her position on their voting schedule, but she quotes vote counts that would only be real if Obama got ZERO votes in those two states! This lack of honesty doesn't phase her at all in her "effort not to disenfranchise voters in two states"!

It's her continuing opportunism and hypocrisy (and phoniness and lying that make it impossible for me to salute her as a great role model, historical figure, or even a Democratic trailblazer. Instead, I see her, feel angry and disgusted, and turn off the television.

It's the old chestnut, "It depends on what your definition of campaign is."

Every time Clinton gives a speech, I feel like a security guard in a department store.

...And Winona Ryder just walked in.

Here is what Hillary had to say about counting Michigan:

Now, I know that Senator Obama chose to remove his name from the ballot in Michigan, and that was his right. But his choice does not negate the votes of all those who turned out to cast their ballots, and we should not let our process rob them and all of you of your voices. To do so would undermine the very purpose of the nominating process. To ensure that as many Democrats as possible can cast their votes. To ensure that the party selects a nominee who truly represents the will of the voters and to ensure that the Democrats take back the White House to rebuild America.

Now, I’ve heard some say that counting Florida and Michigan would be changing the rules.

Hillary Clinton compared her effort to seat Florida and Michigan delegates to epic American struggles, including those to free the slaves and win the right to vote for blacks and women.

I guess she's going for that "audacity" thing.

Little note to Hillary.... I am from Michigan and did not get to vote like the rest of the country.... however..... I would not compare that to an epic American struggle..... left me bummed for sure... but not as bummed as I would be if I had no civil rights or was a slave....

She is so silly..... I wish she would go away... forever.....

What's next? Will she equate this fight to the heroic sacrifice at Iwo Jima? She doesn't seem to realize that she diminishes those that struggled and even gave their lives for things they believed in. Hillary didn't believe in any of this until she woke up one day and realized she was losing the nomination.

Why are the uncommitted super delegates not stepping forward NOW to rally around the presumptive Democratic candidate? It's over and everyone knows it except Hillary and Bill Clinton. Every day that this protracted primary continues, it hurts the Democratic Party. If Obama loses to McCain, it will be the fault of Hillary Clinton and the uncommitted super delegates who are revealing they have the spines of jellyfish.

I agree with your stance on the superdelegates. However, wouldn't it be great if Obama has received so many superdelegates since taking the pledged delegate lead last night, that he is trying to contact every one individually before he announces them?

Insurmountable to all but HRC and some of her supporters. Now she's got a trial balloon about fighting over MI and FLA in Denver.

Unbelievable. Maybe someone is going to have to threaten her for once. She wants Obama to lose to McCain. She doesn't want closing ranks, unless it's behind her. This is becoming a nightmare.
