Parrot

The enthusiasm for Obama appears to go beyond the human race. An Obama supporting parrot is making the rounds on YouTube. A couple blogs, including The Washington Post's "The Trail" and Gawker have written posts on the latest Obama megaphone. The authenticity of the tape has yet to be confirmed. So judge for yourselves.

Is the parrot allowed to vote in the general election?

The parrot has more experience than Obama does.

The parrot tlks and drops less $h!t than Hillary, has a more pleasant voice (and I'm sure cackle too), AND has a more secure home in that cage than Hillary's senate seat.

This is funny although I'm not sure if it is dubbed. something sounds not quite right. But as people write, the parrot >could< be saying it, even if it >is< dubbed. It reminds me of hearing a cockatiel talk once. I was with my friend and her 2 kids, we went to visit the people with the bird, and the cockatiel would say "Who's the smartest bird in the world?" - as clear as can be, no doubt about it. My friend's littlest one (age 3 or 4) heard the bird say this, and her eyes went wide and she looked at the bird and said "YOU are!"
True story.

Can they train it to faint at Obama rallies too?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:39 AM on 05/22/2008

Can they train it to say, "I'm in it for the long run. It's not a very long run, It'll be over by February 5th", and then get it's feathery a$$ handed to it when it loses by May?

Now if we can just train HRC to FLY AWAY!

I don't trust a parrot that doesn't wear a flag lapel pin.

I think this video is funny.

But I'm wondering if the person who trained this parrot will not regret how brilliant and successful Senator Obama will be as President. The trainer's assumption seems to be otherwise.

I write this because it seems almost as if the trainer's message is that the candidate is little better than the creature he trained.

I hope the trainer has had an opportunity to listen to more than a few lines of Senator Obama's speeches, for those speeches are gems that reveal a deep thinker.

In any event, watching that video gave me some entertainment.

What? Do you want the parrot to give a stump speech? For cryin' out loud, he's just a bird and already he's smarter than 70% of West Virginia ;-)

This isan African Gray Parrot. He likely picked this up from hearing it once or twice on TV.

These are among the very brightest parrots. There is scientific work demonstrating that they actually understand numbers. A typical African Gray is as intelligent as 4-6 year old human.

There was another story yesterday of a lost parrot, also an African gray, who was found by the police (in Tokyo) and later told his caregivers at a local shelter the name and address of his home.

I wanted him to say "fired up, ready to go!". Maybe it's just the encoding, but it sounds a little bit fake, like a vocoder. I don't doubt that African Greys can do that for real, though.

They can talk like that for real - i have one and she routinely tells me to "wash the damned floor" *s*
(and she's right). They make associations that'll scare you with the intelligence and ability to analyze that they reveal. They form sentences. All this coming from a creature that is basically a little alien - they don't know the language and are totally isolated from their own kind with no parenting done most of the time.

But anyway, whether or not it's faked I can't tell - mine talks at a higher pitch but my voice is a higher pitch than say, a mans voice, and they mimic the tone/pitch of your voice. It looks like they spliced in some places but they may have just spliced instances of the bird saying "obama blah blah" because they do not say what you want when you want them to, and get bored with repeating unless it's a new word that they have to learn.

I was worried about mine one day and kept asking her if she was ok - she sat there, looked at me and said "Don't worry, I'm ok" - true story. She was never taught to say those words in that order in response to a question. She did it on her own. I needed a beer.

Scientists say that apes and monkeys can't talk because they have very short vocal cords [short voice box]. A parrot can formulate human sounds and it has NO vocal cords [no voice box].
