The Huffington Post:

UPDATE: Around 10PM ET, McCain rejected the endorsement of another right-wing pastor, Rod Parsley, "an Ohio preacher who has sharply criticized Islam and called the religion inherently violent."

[I]n an interview with The Associated Press, McCain said he rejected Parsley's support, too.

"I believe there is no place for that kind of dialogue in America, and I believe that even though he endorsed me, and I didn't endorse him, the fact is that I repudiate such talk, and I reject his endorsement," McCain told the AP. ...

[Parsley] has described Islam as an "anti-Christ religion" and the Muslim prophet Muhammad as "the mouthpiece of a conspiracy of spiritual evil," according to ABC News.

The republicans are essentially hippocrates for saying that fighting Islamic extremism is their first foreign policy priority! So what is the Republican position concerning our alliance to Saudi Arabia, ties to Pakistan, Turkish membership in the EU, Russia's ongoing conflict in Chechnya, and Albanian "independence" in Kosovo? Where were these Republicans when Bush wanted to topple the secular regime in Iraq prior to the invasion? I think the Republicans are radical Islam's greatest ally! They ought to be called the Islamic Party instead!

Religious leaders must have sheep and sheep these days are easily bored. No outrageous stories, no sheep. No sheep, no income.

Rod Parsley thinks he can perform actual miracles. Let me say that again in case you missed it. He thinks that he can perform miracles. Miracles. He thinks that he can perfrom them. That's all you need to know about him to know he is INSANE.

That's OK. Oprah thinks she can perform miracles, too. She's read THE SECRET.

The Straight Talker lies again. He SOUGHT the endorsements of Hagee and Parsley. What ever happened to accusing Robertson and Falwell of being agents of intolerance? They look mild in comparison to Hagee and Parsley. McGroveler. McLiar. McFraud.

This is all so stupid! What about boycotting Israel. They don't even believe in Jesus at all...that should offend all these righteous Christians . Hagee and the rest of them are hate mongers. Your fake 'chosen people' don't believe in your son of God....
I can not wait for the day to come, when we can elect (that in itself will be a first) a President who doesn't believe any of the christian bull. Give me a realist anyday.

That crazy preacher is actually right.

Islam IS anti-Christ, just like Christianity is anti-Moses.

Islam believes that Jesus is a great messenger of God, but that he and his teachers are superceded by the teachings of Mohammed.

Christianity believes that Moses is a great messenger of God, but that he and his teachers are superceded by the teachings of Jesus.

I believe I'm going to have a tuna fish sandwich for lunch, Oprah be damned.

Why is it that fools like these have been backing Repub's for years and it just now became an issue

I think it's a combination: The "reilgious right" voting bloc is getting disillusioned with the GOP; they elected their golden boy Shrub, but didn't really get any of their goals accomplished. I think the Moral Majority's (or whatever they're calling themselves these days) heyday is over as THE bloc. Manyof the younger generation are seeing their faith move them away from many of the GOP's platform issues - stewardship of the earth is sending many to embrace environmental causes, etc. A lot of "the base" are finally paying more attention to something besides the "scare" issues of gay marriage and abortion, and that's a good thing!

The public in general is getting wise; the crazier these guys talk, the more rational people want to distance themselves, and people are seeing the "my god-botherer is bigger than your god-botherer" BS for the pandering it is.

I have no idea why it took this long, but I see this public pressure on McCain to repudiate the nasty as progress (baby steps, to be sure). And I think it will get better; McCain and a lot of the GOP just weren't ready for the YouTube world, where things you say in public can and will come back to bite you. No deniability - he said it, you embraced it, end of story.

I wish we could get religion out of politics altogether.

I wonder will these pastors get death threats and bomb threats at their churches like Rev. Wright did.

The Muslims overseas are already on this and they don't like it. People over here need to keep their mouths shut about Islam. All they do is enraged the religious fundamentalists and incite more violence. Parsley should be careful. The fundamentalists don't care who you are if you insult their religion.

So we are supposed to keep our mouths shut in regards to Islam? Because it may incite violence?

Aren't we free men and women? I will not submit to the dictates of any decayed mullah or the ummah.

If free societies have to pussyfoot around a certain religion because it may incite a sizable portion of practitioners of that religion to violence, we are no longer free.

Live free or die!

Religion has no place in the public discourse. Leave it in the Temple, Mosque and churches. It tend to poison anything it comes in contact with.

McCain did it kicking and screaming, but this is a good thing. It's the beginning of the great GOP/crazy Christian divorce.

Somewhere, Jerry Falwell is having a come-apart.

You are correct. It is a good thing. This has only looked like a love affair between Christians and the GOP.

Most people that I know that are religious have specific issues. Real religious I'm talking about - not these store front small "c" Christians that are actually PACs

Irrespective of particular religion - another poster wrote yesterday - God is Love If that isn't the message of a religion - it simply isn't a religion. Period.

Yet some pasty White guy's understanding of Islam - making up crap up on the fly while people fill his baskets with cash isn't a preacher. He's a magician.

Another overstuffed morbidly obese Pastor without an ounce of self-control of his appetites talking about Hitler and Jews in a speech that he simply - made up - while thousands of people send him money isn't a pastor - he's Franz Mesmer

Yes I believe you are correct - it is the beginning of a messy divorce. One that I hope will end the insurgency of the Republican party or spawn viable third party.
